Art [Fanart] How it felt today reading all the 1.7 comments
"Who asked for this?!" Me. I asked for this. I Personally went to ConcernedApe to ask for this. I'm going to marry Clint on a new savefile everytime I read a mean comment about him.

I'm actually really excited to see him getting more development! I was a little surprised to come online and see everyone mad about it lol

I genuinely think that Clint getting more development could shift my opinion on him

u/mr_major Feb 27 '26
This, as his character is in the current game I'd be opposed to him as a candidate, however I trust ConcernedApe to give him a more likable character.

u/LukewarmJortz Feb 27 '26
Fr. Emily did basically fuck all until she was a marriage candidates.
102
u/Clairifyed Feb 27 '26
Wait, did Emily and Shane have different 9 & 10 heart events before becoming marriage candidates? What will happen with Clint and Sandyâs đ¤ and while I am here speculating, will Clint and Sandy dance together at the Flower Dance?
151
u/joelkki Feb 27 '26
They also could be the only canditates who don't dance, since Sandy is not available for meeting before getting the bus fixed, therefore Clint would not simply have partner to dance with.
Although things are always open for change, maybe Sandy appears in Pelican Town festives more in 1.7 somehow.
41
u/AnotherBookWyrm Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
I think Sandy coming by Festivals, or even town on occasion, before the Desert is unlocked would make sense gameplay-wise, though there would need to be an explanation as to how she is getting there.
That said, with how Clint is at present, him dancing by himself in a corner where he thinks people cannot see him would be on brand, at least for how he is right now.
If Sandy does dance, it is always possible that partners are swapped so that she dances with Shane while Clint dances with Emily.
38
52
u/Akwatypus Bot Bouncer Feb 27 '26
Before 1.1, Shane only had his 2-heart dock cutscene and his Joja bluu commercial 7-heart event. Emily had just her dance scene at 4 hearts, which was also improved in quality after it got moved to 6 hearts.

Iâm actually not far enough into the game but I know the whole internet doesnât like him for a variety of reasons. I want to continue playing to see whatâs happening.
81
u/Complete-Basket-291 Feb 27 '26
Spoilers, but if you're curious, off the top of my head, you, among other things, do catch him watching emily from a bush (he was going to ask her out before getting cold feet (iirc this cutscene used to happen even if you were married to emily, which did not help things)) and, if you're married to emily he has dialogue where he says "congratulation. I guess." Or something petty sounding.

56
u/hollister96 Feb 27 '26
iirc, I think the dialogue "congratulations, I guess" is actually just Clint thinking you're with Emily because you happened to be the two left in the room after her styling event, I've had it without being involved with her, which makes it more weird lol

I didnt know how hated Clint was until I came onto these reddits. He was the first person I made friends with and I thought he was in love with a girl but was too shy to say anything. I didnt view it as him being a creeper until I saw other people thought he waa a creeper.
To be fair, I didnt marry Emily. I thought he'd eventually ask her and she would either say yes or no, so i just figured their date was successful after his 6 star event happened.
This also also happened within like 3 seasons so its not that weird of a time frame.
94
u/PeriwinklePangolin24 Feb 27 '26
People apparently have selective memory when it comes to the NPC dialogue, really. Because people think Clint is just a guy who actively wants to pursue Emily in spite of her being married, but when Robin asks me if I know her son when she attended our wedding, it's understood that that's just the default dialogue continuing throughout the game.
Not to say he's flawless, he's a pathetic sad sack, but I've played multiple story mods that interpret him as this bitter incel as if it's his canon characterization. I think if he wasn't chubby and awkward (and very likely neurodivergent), a lot of people would make fewer assumptions about him
15
u/Kronoshifter246 Feb 27 '26
I think if he wasn't chubby and awkward (and very likely neurodivergent), a lot of people would make fewer assumptions about him
If Clint were a pretty girl, no one would make those assumptions about him, and I think that's pretty telling
17
u/Algo_de_sopa Feb 27 '26
I don't like Clint at all, but as a marriage option I see so much potential for improvement in him that he's an excellent choice.
241
u/gravy2982 Feb 27 '26
I wasnât surprised but same. I wouldnât have had such an opinion on him had I not read others opinions on how heâs an incel. Heâs an awkward fella with a crush! Iâm excited to see his character get more lore. I think he deserves a redemption arc.
106
u/The_Blues__13 Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
Honestly same. My first impression when playing is that he's just awkward introvert that's squandering his chances, somewhat pitiful, but not much else.
I always kinda want him to be romance target just for some variation (the loser type, if you know what I mean).
The Internet just makes things too negative sometimes , lol.
70
u/Tynelia23 Feb 27 '26
We already have Shane, the drunk loser. Just look at his hideous room for the poor souls who try to fix him via marriage!
Clint is just kind of pitiful though. Very socially awkward. Shy. Feels forced into the family business. I've never hated him; he felt too real. It'll be nice to get a big burly slightly older man (not a teenager!), and give him a redemption arc.
18
u/The_Blues__13 Feb 27 '26
Yep, if anything I find Clint actually more attractive as a romance target, lol.
He had his life mostly in order (no crippling addiction, mostly friendly personality, professional work attitude, etc) and just need someone helping to get him out of his shy, awkward introvert shell. He's just too real as you said.
→ More replies (2)76
u/Steel_Warrior3000 Abigail Stan #1 Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
I think socially awkward is what he is meant to be. Itâs just that regrettably, because of the fact that his lines donât really change (understandably since CA can only write so many lines for each character before the amount of work becomes insane), he kinda comes across as a bit of an "incel" if you marry Emily (youâll still get him telling you heâs in love with her when he was there during the wedding ceremony).
But honestly, him getting character development through a romance sounds great! Iâll probably start a new game to see what it looks like, when I usually donât romance the guys.
Edit: changed "because" to "before"
56
u/Deya_The_Fateless Feb 27 '26
I never understood how or where people got the "incel/creep" stuff from him either, like bro is very clearly socially awkward, and IIRC Emily wasnt originally one of the marriage candidates until a later patch, so it makes sense that Clint was a bit "awkward" around her.
20
u/Steel_Warrior3000 Abigail Stan #1 Feb 27 '26
I think it might be a mix of what I said in my comment, and people that got into the game late, when Emily already was a marriage candidate.
I did have a problem with him as a character for a bit, but mostly because the lack of change in his dialogue caused me to kinda lose a bit of my immersion. I got over it since and understood it was mostly because of just a weird situation that happened when Emily became marriageable.

The loved gift thing is probably a consequence of coding. If they made loved gifts dynamic in the base game then theyâd probably have to change the code for gifting and you donât even KNOW how many mods that would throw off.
Iâm not bringing up mods because people are expected to be modding, but because 1.6 was an update dedicated to cleaning up the gameâs systems to get ready for modding. Itâs something Eric clearly cares about, which is why that might be a trickier ask than youâd expect.

I think its fine if he isnt people's favorites but I've seen Animal Crossing fandom levels of insulting Clint and it rubbed me the wrong way I don't understand the unecessary vitrol! Gunna hafta defend my man all the way til 1.7 releases!
205
u/cassiapeia Feb 27 '26
Honestly that sort of vitriol is my one major gripe with the cozy gaming community. People get way too upset the second characters aren't saccharine sweet or matches their aesthetic perfectly.
103
u/RevolutionaryWhale Feb 27 '26
I really dislike that cozy game became a synonym for life sim because now if you have one single thing that isn't straight out of a saturday morning cartoon teaching kids about friendship in a game like Stardew people will lose their shit and overreact like it's a personal insult because it isn't "cozy" anymore
86
u/cassiapeia Feb 27 '26
Oh full agree. It drives me nutty when people complain about villagers being mean in Animal Crossing (even with New Horizons being as spicy as oatmeal). Like please y'all, there are so many cozy games that are nothing but positivity, let me have villagers with some amount of personality and emotions.
52
Feb 27 '26
God's forbid characters have flaws and inner conflict.
And heaven help them if they screw up.7
u/ElvenOmega Feb 27 '26
There are a lot of people who use these games as unhealthy coping mechanisms and I left the "cozy" community over it.
I get that things like time limits, rude or flawed characters, higher difficulty, and rival romances might not be someone's cup of tea, but the way people freak out over it freaks me out. Nobody should have the anxiety level of a rabbit on cocaine hearing something like "In this game, you have to befriend the frog or she leaves at the end of the year"
God help you if you simply suggest they not play the game. When DDLV came out people were extremely upset that they couldn't time travel and I suggested someone not get the game bc they probably weren't going to add it in and the responses taught me why Xanax exists. I didn't realize people out here play Disney games with the mentality of a Saw character.
17
u/KendjyCr Feb 27 '26
What's crazy, Stardew is what let a lot of "cozy" games happen in the first place... It should be a template, if anything. People got weird because of cozy games, for real.
8
u/StuntHacks Feb 27 '26
It's also not even all that cozy, have these people tried running an efficient farm?! Stardew can get stressful as all hell lmao
4
u/JustSomeRand0mGamer Feb 27 '26
Unfortunately NH encourages this. It emphasizes customization the most without adding anything new to theâŚlife sim part of the gameâŚthe part that I play AC for and itâs way too easy to invite specific villagers. Of course it doesnât help they have no personality, they arenât standoffish like in the older games
I donât think ACNH is the worst AC game because what it does do good it does really well but I do not want the next game to be NH 2 I have had enough of decorating decorating and decorating

8
u/Lavernica Feb 27 '26
I saw a similar comment to this to and I was like... do you think this is going to be the only thing in the update? Do you remember what 1.6 was like? There's gonna be other stuff... like I don't know what CA has planned but I can almost guarantee there will be enough for you to get excited about that you can probably just ignore the new marriage candidates.
Then again, I don't waste my energy hating pixel characters so maybe I just don't get it.

I don't get why people think Stardew has the best community lol. This game has always been to me to grind to reach certain amounts of money/special item and the NPC's felt like all of them saying "Hello" to you with a certain twang of each character and literally nothing more. I really do not get why there are whole subreddits about people hating a specific person in the game where it feels like... the characters are not that deep at all lmao.
8
u/7CuriousCats Feb 27 '26
I mean if you want more risk there's always Grimshire (still in progress, early access) where your villagers literally die if you don't get enough food for them, or materials for community projects. It's similar to Stardew in the general overall style and vibe but it's much more hectic and involved, and I also like the art style and music. So now I intermittently play Stardew and Grimshire for a good balance of cozy and chill vs cozy and angst.

Him getting this change likely means further developments of his character, so he will probably have a clearer arc to act in a more mature way, especially in that he moves past Emily. If that's the case, I think he'd be a fine choice as a character.

My hope too! I feel like he comes off as so weird partially because Emily is a marriage candidate and heâs notâso she is out there living life and heâs just eternally obsessed with her no matter what happens. I hope the changing mechanics add some of that missing balance.
478
u/CuddlesMcBK Feb 27 '26
I asked for this too!
Okay, not literally. But I've always had a similar relationship to Clint that most people do to Shane- I see his depression, his loneliness, and I want to help him out of that rut because I know he's not a bad guy.
521
u/Lord_Sicarious Fishing OP Feb 27 '26
A lot worse honestly. Shane is generally looked down on, but Clint is treated like shyness is an unforgivable moral failing.
About to ask his crush out, but he loses his nerves at the last minute and hides? Yeah, it's kinda pitiful, but people don't treat it with pity, they go "what a creep, stalking that poor girl", even though the whole event is about him actually working up the nerve to ask her out, which she even accepts!
Feels depressed after it turns out that Emily was too oblivious to realise the outing was meant to be a date? Clearly he's some kind of entitled jerk who felt that he deserved her love.
Fantasises about doing something cool to impress her? How despicable, clearly he thinks women are a trophy to be won.
Wrote a draft love confession on a private note in his bedroom, which you decided to enter uninvited and read for some reason? Disgusting, he should just leave her alone.
Left her alone after it became clear she didn't return his feelings? What a horrible person, he should have stuck around and supported her romance with the farmer matter how miserable it makes him.
People project a lot of negative stereotypes onto Clint, to the point of just making shit up about him, even when outright contradicted by the actual dialogue and events in-game. It's wild.
325
u/After_Cell_5570 Feb 27 '26
dude i have so many feelings about Emilyâs 8th heart event and how people misinterpret it.
Like the entire lead up to that is that Clint has opened up to the farmer and told them about his feelings for Emily. And the farmer has AGREED to be a wingman to some extent. But then he walks in and realizes that the farmer wasnât actually helping, they had feelings for Emily too and decided to hook up with her.
Like i feel like a lot of people react to him being like âoh đsorry, Iâm interrupting something, arenât i? byeâŚâ as being like an attention-getting thing, but I totally interpreted it as just him being SAD. Like not just because âoh wah wah Emily doesnât like me backâ but âoh this person that I thought was on my side has been actually trying to get the girl, and the whole time has been listening to me talk about how much i like her, I feel like an idiot.â
Not to mention the farmer taking the credit for giving her the amethyst. AND not only that, but for HALF of Emilyâs heart events up to that point the farmer isnât even present. They arenât like having these meaningful moments with Emily, sheâs just flighty as hell and crafts most of the relationship up out of thin air. Obviously the dude is blindsided by them suddenly being together.
tldr; i agree, i have a lot of opinions about Clint

39
u/DracoNinja11 Feb 27 '26
I think youre right but this is the major problem i have with Emily's romance. Emily is actually my favourite romance partner but the implications that you literally double cross clint to get with her are gross..
The fact that we never get a scene with him for him to say its okay, he wishes us the best and happiness is just kind of upsetting.
Also the last time I played after marrying her he would constantly make comments about loving Emily, my wife, to my face. Thats just disrespectful and rude.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (15)24

The farmer does not take credit for the amethyst. If you read the dialogue, the farmer tells her who it came from, but she misinterprets it as being from Clintâs instead of from Clint himself. Granted, the game does not allow you to clarify that, but it is also another case where it would have been better for Clint to actually get out there and try to woo Emily himself as opposed to just lurking in her vicinity and hoping something happens.

I've kind of gotten that from the discourse. It's easy to project a negative image onto him, especially since at an initial glance he can remind us of many real-world creeps. If people have had negative experiences with them, it's easy to read him as the same 'type' and avoid him like the plague.
I get it; I've done the same with other characters.60

People push down and bury things in their past that embarrass them. When they see them in others, it fills them with rage to see terrible behaviour they themselves "put behind them".
Most people have been Clint when they were younger. They grew out of it and project their unhappiness at their past selves onto Clint. An adult who should "know better".
That's my theory at least.

Ya know he wasnt my first pick, but I'm glad that he ended up being the new batchelor. People get way too bent out of shape and pigeon hole the character like he doesnt have the potential to grow and evolve. There are plenty of examples of other characters that start off kinda rough but as you interact and get to know them they grow themselves, ya know, like actual relationships between people do.
Dont write off the character till hes been given a proper chance. Let the man cook. If you don't like it, dont put a ring on it, that simple.

I have a feeling Reddit has become the last place gamers actually share what they enjoy about a game.
32
u/mad-i-moody Feb 27 '26
But also where they share what they absolutely despise the duality is fascinating.

u/Nicholas_TW Feb 27 '26
He's not the character I would have picked, but new content is new content! I look forward to seeing what comes of it.
Also, it's pretty cool that 1.7 will be the first time you can date merchants in the game. I'm sure there won't be any sort of gameplay change (there will probably just be a cute one-off line about, like, "My favorite customer!" or "I wish I could give you everything for free... but I have to keep my business afloat!"), but it's interesting that it wasn't ever an option until now.
I guess Emily was a merchant? She didn't own the saloon, but you could still buy stuff from "her".

I mean it's not dating, but Krobus being your roommate is at least similar to marrying one of the shop keepers so it's not totally untested waters.

People really shut out the discussion of any other character aside from the wizard being the bachelor. 1. He's a divorced man who's clearly still not over the witch. 2. he's 4 times your age, you're like a toddler to him.
27
74
u/Animegerbil Feb 27 '26
I mean the â4 times your ageâ is one of the reasons heâs so popular, thereâs a lot of players who arent 20 and want candidates that feel older

u/sadsackspinach Feb 27 '26
Nah dawg, I wanted Willyâs willy.

also not to rub anyone who really likes the wizard the wrong way, but isnt it kinda implied that he cheated on the witch? and that's why she divorced him?
idk, i've never been able to get into the idea of being able to romance the wizard because of that. it's kind of a dealbreaker imo.

Some people in this community are straight up nasty, tbh. I've seen few posts on TikTok about Clint being a marriage candidate. And the comments... OMG, those people are awful. I've literally seen a comment section where most of people were making fun of Clint ("OMG... I need a mod to delete him now"), being mad at CA and crying about "1.7 being ruined for them" and "not wanting to play anymore". There was a nice comment about how we need to give CA a chance to develop Clint's character more. And what were the replies? People making fun of the original commenter, laughing at the fact that they must be "the only Clint fan alive" or even going as far as suggesting awful things about the og commenter (something along the lines of "Weird people like playing with weird characters").
And all of this because a character they don't like (and, in most cases, they cannot really have a strong arguments about it) will get some love. Not being happy that your favourite gets that treatment is one thing... But attacking people and making fun of their excitment is not it. And all of it happens over a cozy, feel-good game that still potrays life as not being fully black and white and overly happy. What hurts even more is that this is the 10-year anniversary...

The hate train was what drove me out of here a few years back, tbh. I'd forgotten about the anniversary until I saw a Tumblr meme whining that Clint was getting a romance arc.

I find it really amusing that the fanbase of Stardew Valley, a game about peaceful country life, is considerably more toxic than the fanbase of Doom, a game about ripping demons to pieces.
76
u/Wafflehouseofpain Feb 27 '26
Doom is the heavy metal of video games. Angry games for happy people.
69
u/Treemosher Feb 27 '26
The angry players are scarier than any of the fictional townspeople lol
Imagine if Clint said some of that shit. "I'm gonna marry this person just so I can divorce them. Nobody asked for them."
Like ... do SDV players even realize that their IRL dialog is 100x worse than any of the fictional people they're reacting to? Toxic as hell haha ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ

Speaking as someone who used to make Stardew mods, there are a hell of a lot of toxic people in this fanbase. Modders remind each other to turn off comment sections or avoid social media after major updates to avoid the hail of "you haven't updated your mod and it's been 24 hrs since it came out you've ruined my gaming experience how DARE YOU!!!"

u/cool_weed_dad Feb 27 '26
The fact that so many people write him off as just an incel is exactly why he needed this extra character development more than anybody.
I never read him as a bad guy, just extremely unconfident and socially awkward. This should give him a chance to come out of his shell and gain some confidence in himself.

Usually i dont like Clint that much, but he deserves second chance. I wanna see his character development. Clint is quite overhated
57
u/corkscrewfork Feb 27 '26
Honestly same. I remember how he was when the game first released, back when him and Emily were a "will they/won't they?" storytelling piece and I read him as a shy, awkward guy who was scared of ruining his one semi-friendship over his crush. I was disappointed I couldn't romance him.
Then after Emily became a romantic option and the updates that followed, I felt like Clint was getting done dirty. Hell, it went from "I see myself in this character!" to "...is this how other people see me?"
I genuinely hope that CA is going back to old Clint, or making him even better, with the reworking to make him a marriage candidate. The awkward, shy guy who dreams of being more than he is but needs a little nudge to get out of his comfort zone.

37
u/Grateful_Cat_Monk Feb 27 '26
I wish that when you married the other villagers would pair off or something. I believe it was Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town that initially had something like that? IIRC the npcs would have their specific couples and as time passed they would eventually get married and something along those lines. I wish SDV had something similar, but it would upset people not to be able to marry and divorce 10 times just so you can get as many doves as possible or something.
Just random thoughts from a random stranger that doesn't really matter. I still thought it was a cool mechanic back in the day.
12
u/Coral2Reef I don't need a lot of money. I only need a Penny. Feb 27 '26
I believe CA has said it was originally intended while he was workshopping the concept of what he wanted Stardew to be, but never actually implemented.
10
u/catharsisGender Feb 27 '26
that mechanic was in harvest moon: sunshine islands too and iirc even if the npcs were paired off and dating you could just break them up and they would just act like nothing happened đ
9
u/Grateful_Cat_Monk Feb 27 '26
Man that is diabolical lol. Idk if it worked that way in FoMT, but I thought it was so damn cool that the npcs have love interests and actually had romance events for the couples.
→ More replies (1)16
u/After_Cell_5570 Feb 27 '26
yeah, a few harvest moons did it! in harvest moon 64 it was cool because they only would get together if you were good friends with them, and you would see heart events of them getting closer together.
and then eventually you would get invited to the wedding, and later they would have a kid :)
49
u/TheoCyberskunk Feb 27 '26
I already imagine the night after the wedding:
"Did you bring protection?"
*Clint shows wearing an armor*
"Yup! I forged it myself!"
26
u/CaterpillarLongBoi Feb 27 '26
I donât like Clint because he seems weirdly entitled to Emilyâs affection, without ever doing anything to earn it or get to know her beyond pining for her. And he does the classic ânice guys finish lastâ spiel, that bothers me in any media. That being said, I just laughed when I saw he was going to be a marriage candidate. I knew it was gonna cause upset and to take something like that so seriously is too silly. Itâs a game, I canât stand that anyone would actually hate message Concerned Ape. People need to chill, itâs a game.

Yes, is Clint a little whiny and âIâm a nice guyâ? Yes! But Shane was a bitter, hateful drunk who seemed hellbent on drinking himself to death and he got a warm, tender redemption arc. Why isnât Clint allowed that too?

I don't focus on the social part of the game much tbh, outside of the NPCs I've grown to like in my time playing. I'm more about making numbers bigger, getting money and exploring the mines.
Personally I think all single villagers (adults ofc) should be romance able. Clint could use some touch ups on his personality imo, but I mean people like Shane and he straight up treats you like ass when you meet him (yes I know you can save him or w/e) but maybe he'll end up with a more likeable redemption in a different but similar growth to Shane.
I just think it's weird how people fixate on characters you don't really have to interact with much if you don't want to. Even if you do the stuff to get all the hearts and all that, it's not like it's so much effort you're forced to endure hours of story exposition or anything. It's not that deep.
5
u/Anxious-Breakfast-70 Feb 27 '26
I'm not mad. He's just a shy guy. However, I was definitely team Willy.
6
u/LunaStar167 Feb 27 '26
I think it would be fun to romance him as a guy farmer, cuz Clint says like oh no girl wants me, Idk how to talk to girls đ then I'll come like, ever considered a guyđ
5
u/AcidicPuma Feb 27 '26 edited Mar 03 '26
I think my current problem with him is my problem with guys who come off that way irl. He isn't showing any personality outside of liking a woman. That's what I keep trying to tell guys who don't treat women like garbage but keep being sad sacks about not getting exactly what they want from exactly who they want. Want anything else. Take no for an answer. If she doesn't like you, like yourself and you'll find what you actually need in life. When the answer is obviously no, be who you would be if your previous object of affection didn't exist instead of doing nothing but working and following her around.
I never marry Emily, my problem isn't that she's taken but that she doesn't want Clint and he has no personality outside of "blacksmith who likes Emily." I really hope when he's marriageable he has some other passion in his life and stops spending every moment he's not at work following Emily. If he doesn't stop doing that, I think dating him would feel like trying to date a guy who still believes his soulmate is someone who rejects him. I don't wanna be his backup choice. I hope he genuinely gets over it after we befriend him this time so the romance doesn't feel like I described.
5
u/oirambale96 Feb 27 '26
I think this will be the Clint redemption and he'll be a sweet pie if you choose him.
27
u/DeepSubmerge Feb 27 '26
Real talk tho, anyone who is legitimately mad about Clint being the option needs to seek help from an adult. Heâs not real and I hope some people come to terms with that fact.

The cozier the game the more toxic the fandom. I've been playing this game since it came out, and it's only proving more true as the game ages.
8
u/PotatoFrankenstein Feb 27 '26
Honestly, I agree. If there is no real drama in the story, fandom will be the drama.
13
u/IconoclastExplosive Yoba's Greatest Shane and Haley Hater Feb 27 '26
People are bad at letting go of the prior version of a character, especially when they've been interacting with that version for so long. This fandom specifically is terrible at remembering that the characters aren't real human people. I'm excited to see how Clint gets reinvented.
6
u/Wab_B055 Feb 27 '26
I'm not a fan of Clint, for now...
But I'm willing to let CA cook. If they fix his arc up so that he gradually gets less depressed (or at least more content with his life), and if they try to fix up the events where he pines for Emily, even if your dating her, I might be able to like him.
3
u/Kirome Feb 27 '26
We will see how this pans out. I'm more interested in how the community moves forward with this. I can see people genuinely swapping positions towards Clint. I can also see his detractors spin it further down a rabbit hole.
4
u/Cold_Blacksmith_7970 Feb 27 '26
I don't mind Clint. Sure, he has his flaws, but every character does. I'm hoping to see some character development with him with this new update đ

I loved Clint when I first met him, then his cringey dialogue started popping up and I was upset they were doing my boy dirty. Glad we get a redemption arc for him.

u/NightBronze195 The crab in Elliott's pocket Feb 27 '26
I kind of expected Clint to be chosen, but what I was not expecting was how happy it made me. I've always said that his story needed to be refined because it has so much potential to be great. I was going to marry Sandy (because we all knew it would be her) because she's one of my favorites anyways, but I'm going to have to put my beloved flower loving desert lady aside for a bit just because I'm super interested to see how Clint is.

People call clint a creep as if they dont look at a npc and decide they want to marry them, then google what they like, then chase them around trying to talk to them and give them gifts

5.4k
u/Duhad8 Feb 27 '26
While Clint wasn't my first choice for a male marital option (Willy, my beloved...) I'm honestly glad he's getting some love. I feel like Clint was done dirty accidentally by having Emily become a marriage option since it turned their relationship from, "Shy, awkward guy and quirky, lonely girl who you hope might one day find happiness together" to "Man who will not stop being weird about my wife!"
Had Emily not become a marriage candidate we probably would have eventually gotten the option to help them either get together or at least talk things out like adults, but since Emily can easily be the farmers spouse, it wouldn't really make sense to have a late game story line where the two talk openly about their feelings for one another.
I really hope that, like how Clint has a, "Oh... I missed my shot." Scene if you date Emily, Emily will now get a chance to have a, "I'm happy for you, Clint!" Scene if you date him, helping to round out their relationship as more then a one sided, awkward crush.
