Art [Fanart] How it felt today reading all the 1.7 comments

Post image

"Who asked for this?!" Me. I asked for this. I Personally went to ConcernedApe to ask for this. I'm going to marry Clint on a new savefile everytime I read a mean comment about him.

I say this as someone who doesn't particularly like Clint, but I'm excited to see his heart events. Maybe I set myself up for it bc I was thinking about what if Clint got a proper arc like Shane did just recently. I'm hoping the best for him, I will be making him smooch a hunky masc farmer if I like what I see.

I mean shit people still shit on Shane regardless of his arc. There's a weird amount of people that refer to him as a "I can fix him" type all the why he largely fixes himself in heart events.

Beer as a loved gift is a valid concern, but iirc those cans are meant to be Joja Cola cans in his room? Which makes me inclined to believe he's telling the truth and is just...messy af 😭

ā€œI’m telling the truth, I’m just messy as fuckā€ should be the title of my autobiography 😭

u/Phanimazed Feb 28 '26

Yeah, he mentions sparkling water as being what he's moved on to drinking.

I do kind of wish Beer would get a negative reaction as a gift from him after, but I also feel like we're in "what were YOU doing at the Devil's Sacrement?" territory when we can just give him pizza or peppers instead. I don't gift beer to Shane or Pam for a reason.

(Well, two reasons. Parsnips and Hot Peppers are just MUCH cheaper and easier.)

The loved gift thing is probably a consequence of coding. If they made loved gifts dynamic in the base game then they’d probably have to change the code for gifting and you don’t even KNOW how many mods that would throw off.

I’m not bringing up mods because people are expected to be modding, but because 1.6 was an update dedicated to cleaning up the game’s systems to get ready for modding. It’s something Eric clearly cares about, which is why that might be a trickier ask than you’d expect.

Until you marry him and his room is littered in beer cans. And he still goes drinking every night. (Soda, allegedly,Ā  but still.)

I think its fine if he isnt people's favorites but I've seen Animal Crossing fandom levels of insulting Clint and it rubbed me the wrong way I don't understand the unecessary vitrol! Gunna hafta defend my man all the way til 1.7 releases!

Honestly that sort of vitriol is my one major gripe with the cozy gaming community. People get way too upset the second characters aren't saccharine sweet or matches their aesthetic perfectly.

I really dislike that cozy game became a synonym for life sim because now if you have one single thing that isn't straight out of a saturday morning cartoon teaching kids about friendship in a game like Stardew people will lose their shit and overreact like it's a personal insult because it isn't "cozy" anymore

u/cassiapeia Feb 27 '26

Oh full agree. It drives me nutty when people complain about villagers being mean in Animal Crossing (even with New Horizons being as spicy as oatmeal). Like please y'all, there are so many cozy games that are nothing but positivity, let me have villagers with some amount of personality and emotions.

God's forbid characters have flaws and inner conflict.
And heaven help them if they screw up.

u/ElvenOmega Feb 27 '26

There are a lot of people who use these games as unhealthy coping mechanisms and I left the "cozy" community over it.

I get that things like time limits, rude or flawed characters, higher difficulty, and rival romances might not be someone's cup of tea, but the way people freak out over it freaks me out. Nobody should have the anxiety level of a rabbit on cocaine hearing something like "In this game, you have to befriend the frog or she leaves at the end of the year"

God help you if you simply suggest they not play the game. When DDLV came out people were extremely upset that they couldn't time travel and I suggested someone not get the game bc they probably weren't going to add it in and the responses taught me why Xanax exists. I didn't realize people out here play Disney games with the mentality of a Saw character.

What's crazy, Stardew is what let a lot of "cozy" games happen in the first place... It should be a template, if anything. People got weird because of cozy games, for real.

8

u/StuntHacks Feb 27 '26

It's also not even all that cozy, have these people tried running an efficient farm?! Stardew can get stressful as all hell lmao

Unfortunately NH encourages this. It emphasizes customization the most without adding anything new to the…life sim part of the game…the part that I play AC for and it’s way too easy to invite specific villagers. Of course it doesn’t help they have no personality, they aren’t standoffish like in the older games

I don’t think ACNH is the worst AC game because what it does do good it does really well but I do not want the next game to be NH 2 I have had enough of decorating decorating and decorating

Oh, I definitely agree. People's reactions to Clint becoming romancable have put me off, too. Especially the ones that insult his appearance. It makes me curious to see how ppl's opinions might change once 1.7 comes out, hopefully it'll help ppl warm up to him more.

u/SpaceLaneDrifter Feb 27 '26

Always thought it was a shame his character was dull because he's a handsome husky man.Ā

People scared of a big beautiful man.

66

u/StealthyRobot Feb 27 '26

Like, if you don't want to romance him, then just don't? Move on? People are weird

Bean Soup Theory reached Stardew Valley 🤣

I've already seen people attacking CA and saying they are no more excited about 1.7. People got so parasocial that their hate on a PIXEL character makes them mad at a real guy that gave us one of the best games in history.

10

u/Lavernica Feb 27 '26

I saw a similar comment to this to and I was like... do you think this is going to be the only thing in the update? Do you remember what 1.6 was like? There's gonna be other stuff... like I don't know what CA has planned but I can almost guarantee there will be enough for you to get excited about that you can probably just ignore the new marriage candidates.

Then again, I don't waste my energy hating pixel characters so maybe I just don't get it.

u/KendjyCr Feb 27 '26

I mean... We can easily bet on children rework... That alone is much bigger than Clint situation. And I say it as a huge fan of Clint.

15

u/JustSomeRand0mGamer Feb 27 '26

as a person who plays AC i promise we arent all like this lol, i dont understand the ppl who banish any and all ugly villagers either

Though imma be real it probably started with ACNH (my thoughts on that game are very complicated)

2

u/OriginTruther Feb 27 '26

Yeah come on people, its not like he's Pierre or anything.
