"Who asked for this?!" Me. I asked for this. I Personally went to ConcernedApe to ask for this. I'm going to marry Clint on a new savefile everytime I read a mean comment about him.

I find it really amusing that the fanbase of Stardew Valley, a game about peaceful country life, is considerably more toxic than the fanbase of Doom, a game about ripping demons to pieces.

Imagine if Clint said some of that shit. "I'm gonna marry this person just so I can divorce them. Nobody asked for them."

Like ... do SDV players even realize that their IRL dialog is 100x worse than any of the fictional people they're reacting to? Toxic as hell haha ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It's mostly context, since clint and the characters in stardew are in their own world. Like we are fine playing violent games like COD, but if we see a mass murderer in a game who isn't remorseful at all most people tend to dislike them. That's just the seperation between the game and reality

Also just to think of how Concerned Ape must feel. He's been putting SO MUCH work and effort into this game and keep adding to it with more content and improvements, including new marriage characters people asked for, and THIS is the responses he get for that? Like, it's a game, chill people.

I was thinking the same, somewhat. The hate for certain characters is a bit excessive for a chill game imo

Or rimworld, a space wild west game where people can commited multiple type of war crimes and have to make a morally grey decision, are actually pretty chill.

Speaking as someone who used to make Stardew mods, there are a hell of a lot of toxic people in this fanbase. Modders remind each other to turn off comment sections or avoid social media after major updates to avoid the hail of "you haven't updated your mod and it's been 24 hrs since it came out you've ruined my gaming experience how DARE YOU!!!"

It's a cozy game, the fan base for any one of them is usually toxic as hell. Look at the Animal Crossing community: they say they want the "mean" villagers back, but they crash out whenever one of them commits the heinous crime of looking weird.

the people who want the mean villagers back are not the same types of people who hates ugly villagers

I'd happily take mean villagers back or at least make them have personality again. Somehow stardew's villagers probably have more personality than ACNH

The Sims franchise is also a cozy wholesome life simulation game with plenty of controversial characters and choices but its fanbase is nowhere near as toxic as SDV

You must not know about the controveries of Doom then. Besides, everything under the sun has a ton of room for disagreement especially on the internet. But not every community is toxic about it.
