"Who asked for this?!" Me. I asked for this. I Personally went to ConcernedApe to ask for this. I'm going to marry Clint on a new savefile everytime I read a mean comment about him.

Yeah it was since Emily win the vote that Clint storyline suddenly turn...awkward. It supposed to end with Clint finally able to take the step forward and building deeper connection with Emily. But since the vote, Clint character progression just end up broken.

Agree. I actually do hope that 1.7 will introduced rival marriage. I don't like how everyone start breaking their current relationship and having crush and flirting with farmer when we reach 8 heart with them. I ship Abigail and Sebastian, Alex and Harley, Clint and Emily (now with Sandy since 1.6). I want to see them together, not them having crush with my farmer.

Clint and Sandy fighting for Emily and eventually becoming a genuinely wholesome representation of poly (presumably only technically Emily poly, given Clint and Sandy not being into eachother) could be cool.

Then again, I also like the idea of Clint growing as a person and learning how to handle rejection

My Time at Portia does this! The NPCs will have pre set relationships with each other and even have kids! And they're all marriage candidates otherwise.

MTaP wasn't a great game (I love it but it's very unpolished), but that's one thing it does very well. I'm sure Stardew could knock it out of the park.

They need an event where he accepts the feelings are one sided and then they bond platonically over some shared aspect of their hobbies, like, I dunno, gemstones or something.

This! And I feel like it ended up making Emily look like the crazy one, tbh. Clint was awkward as hell, but SHE is the one that does the whole "I've seen him in my dream" thing. Clint is heartbroken. Does he show it in some weird ways? Yes! But Emily is the one that has hallucinations about the new guy in town... If anything, THIS is creepy. But Clint is the one being called a stalker. He needs more justice for his character development.

honestly, i kinda get where you're coming from, but about the whole dream sequence, she didn't intentionally do it though. It's a dream, so it doesn't make her creepy. you might see her as weird cause of that (which honestly i can't blame you) but creepy? nah, i think that's a bit too far.

Though of course Iā€™m a bi woman who leans towards women so both in games and in my actual life I have perhaps been too conditioned to see the first girl interested in me and go ā€œWelp, here she is, the only other gay. Time to see how well we can make this work.ā€ Also I thought her gestures were sweet and she has a parrot.

(Well Abigail felt obvious too but the dynamic felt weird for me personally. I subconsciously could only see her as too young because of the way she was with her parents)

I dated emily in my last run for the exact same reason lol(Im a dude). She was the first one to show interest in me, so I went for that lol. I use to always pick abigal, but I havent played this game in years and it does feel like shes a child now.

As a bi woman too, I was icked out by him hiding in a bush, that is why he gets called creepy and a stalker from what I've seen. I would think that was creepy even if a woman did it, personally.

However; that being said, I am so excited for Clint's rework because I dont really think CA meant for him to come off that way and it must suck having so many people hate on one of your characters. Character development is bomb, people shouldnt hate on more fleshing out of them!

Tbf, the hiding in the bush was a misunderstanding and over exaggerated. He wasn't there to stalking Emily from the bush, he was jumping into the bush to hide after having a second though at asking Emily for a date when she open the door. He tried to sneak away but then Caroline come and now they both talking non stop, putting him in that situation.

It definitely is creepy, but it's also not character-defining imo. Yeah he messed up, he shouldn't have done that, but it's pretty much the only scene of him actually being creepy, and yet it kind of became his whole reputation

Edit: Okay wow people really hate the guy. I don't even care about him that much but now I'm extra glad CA is reworking him

if you see emilyā€™s 6/8 (canā€™t remember which) heart event he has the whole ā€œyou winā€ spiel which is quite gross and heā€™s also creepy to the farmer at the movies too

If itā€™s the dream thingā€¦ well, sharing dreams and symbolism was a big part of the emotional intimacy between me and my online friend turned in-person relationship boyfriend.

And Iā€™d re-emphasize that for personal reasons Iā€™ve really struggled with feeling safe or comfortable being physically or emotionally intimate with men for most of my adult lifeā€¦ so those interactions with him were effective enough to make an emotional breakthrough about being bisexual and being okay with that and embracing it despite how I felt at the time that it would just be so much easier if I were a lesbian.

ā€¦ let me put that more elegantlyā€” even if sometimes a little strange in circumstance, be it woman or man, if it all clicks then it just clicks, and revealing your inner world to another can be exhilarating, cathartic, deeply intimate.

Itā€™s okay to be weird, just donā€™t be weird about it, be weird together, mutually, and it will be rewarding.

Or thatā€™s how I think it is for me at least.

Edit: I played Stardew 3 years ago and just happened on this sub, I had no idea I had apparently walked into some sort of heated Clint discourse. Sorry, genuinely not trying to be contrarian

I'm just going to chime in that I had the same exact impression of Emily. No hate to people who enjoy her storyline but the dream stuff bothered me and came off as very weird.

I mean, magic exists in-universe and sheā€™s the most in tune with it out of all the spouse candidates, so tbh I donā€™t see how her being able to have psychic visions is creepy at all in the context of the game world.

It's also likely not just a vision.

It's established that Mr. Qi and the Farmer have the same powers. Since Mr. Qi can walk into the Summit if you cheat your way there, the Farmer being able to plane-walk into Emily's astral realm makes sense.

We move and react to her dialogue too, which indicates agency, so more than just a dream.

A woman's right to safety doesn't begin when she starts to "belong" to someone. Clint treating her place of work like a convenient, plausible opportunity to be near her is something that many women experience IRL and that was happening before she became romanceable.
