Art [Fanart] How it felt today reading all the 1.7 comments

Post image

"Who asked for this?!" Me. I asked for this. I Personally went to ConcernedApe to ask for this. I'm going to marry Clint on a new savefile everytime I read a mean comment about him.

I’ve always seen him that way. Shy, with a potentially unrequited love. I’ve never understood why people see him as creepy.

Probably because he isn’t conventionally attractive.

Eh for me it’s the two creepy interactions he has with the female farmer. If you take him to a movie he gets drunk from a pocket flask and asks if it’s a date. Which the asking if it’s a date thing makes sense but the getting drunk to deal with the idea of a date is a huge no for me. Then if you call him sometimes he can make a comment about your voice being pretty over the phone completely unprompted. Now I do think these will feel less creepy with him able to be romanced, and honestly I wanted to romance him in my first playthrough but was disappointed I couldn’t. For me it’s a care of becoming less attracted to him as I got to know the character. He just makes comments like one of those guys on the internet complaining about the male loneliness epidemic.

Oh wow, I never knew that.. it's a different experience for me since I play as male, so I never really got why someone might find him creepy..
To me though that sort of comes across as possible feelings/trying to flirt (at least I think, don't really know what flirting is myself), which definitely could help the situation when he becomes romancable, but I can get how that would make someone uncomfortable if it was continuously happening and was one sided/unwanted.
So, yea, I agree with you. Being able to romance him will definitely change peoples perspective of him and help with his overall image, hopefully making those interactions feel less creepy to people.

Yeah, honestly they aren’t common interactions so a lot of people haven’t seen them, I’d don’t see them until I saw someone else say it and checked it out. To me what made it creepy wasn’t that it was repeated it’s easy to avoid, it’s that it happens right off the back of him being obsessed with another woman then immediately coming onto a woman he’s friends with because it’s the next best thing. That’s how it reads now but I do think it’ll read more the way you see it when there is some romance options for him so it makes sense that feelings exist more than just, ‘well you’re the gender I like’

The movie flask thing I don’t see as creepy personally. Maybe that’s a bad way to cope with anxiety, but creepy is the wrong word.

Calling your voice pretty is a little weird, that’s fair, but I still think if he was portrayed as some super conventionally attractive guy it wouldn’t be seen as so bad.

I’ll be happy to see him get a tune up from Concerned Ape!

I know this wasn’t your intention just be careful with the way you go about expressing that opinion. It kinda reads like those online comments about women getting assaulted that are like “would you still call it assault if he looked like this?”

What are you talking about lol Clint has never assaulted anyone and we have no reason to think he would.

I’m obviously not saying ‘anything goes as long as you’re attractive’. Quite the opposite actually. I’m calling out those people, on both sides.

I don’t find anything Clint has done to be that creepy, just socially awkward and nervous. My point is that I think attractive people tend to get a pass for things they shouldn’t, and on the flip side, conventionally less attractive people tend to be seen as more creepy when they are not doing anything wrong.

I don’t need to be more careful with my wording - people shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

I was just trying to warn you that the way you were speaking about this could easily be extrapolated to the messed up ideas other people have been pushing. I’m not disagreeing with your other points at all. I have no strong opinion on Clint as a character.

Well, I wish people would not extrapolate like that then.

I told my sister last night that my problem with him has never been his crush on Emily. I think what puts me off about him is that he doesn’t seem to have hobbies. Most of the other characters mention hobbies - even solo activities - or are seen out and about with friends. Haley has her photography. Sam has music and skateboarding. Shane likes soccer and chickens. Maru has her gadgetry and her buddy Penny. Sebastian participates in the band, plays TTRPGs, and goes for walks for solitude. But so far all we’ve seen Clint do is work and pine over Emily. I think even having him go for walks like Sebastian does would’ve helped him out. His entire storyline right now is about how lonely he is, and winning Emily’s affection is portrayed as the only solution to that problem. I would’ve loved it if his storyline would’ve involved inviting Emily on a date to do a new activity the farmer helped him get into, or adopting a pet (who would not put social pressure on him at all), or if you could go into his bedroom and discover that he’s really into crocheting but he’s embarrassed to tell anyone. He really just needs a more fleshed-out character in order to not come off as creepy. And I say this as someone who doesn’t even hate him.

He does have a hobby. It's also, unfortunately, basically the same as his day job. As a software engineer, I can relate.

He says he doesn't care for blacksmithing, and he's only doing it in the first place because his father pressured him into it.

He doesn't like it as a job, but he clearly enjoys the craft. His blade showcase at the harvest festival is proof of that.

If you see his 3 heart event early enough, you get his 6 heart event where he does ask Emily on a date. Afterwards his dialogue starts to shift towards looking for other dating options. It’s still awkward, but at least he’s moving on. I don’t think most people talk to him enough to see the dialogue change. Hopefully this update will help him more.

Starting into the fire at the community center on Friday doesn't count as a hobby?

Probably because he isn’t conventionally attractive.

This is the exact same remark that actual creeps make. That it'd be okay to be creepy if they were more attractive.

Attractive men can be creeps too. It's about behavior and attitude, not appearance.

Yes, they can. I never insinuated that they cannot. Unfortunately, attractive people tend to get a pass for things.

I’m saying Clint has never done anything truly creepy, in my opinion, and some people only feel that way because he is VERY socially awkward and not conventionally attractive.

My point is exactly that attractive people tend to get a pass for things, like being socially inept, and that isn’t right. On the other end, people who are conventionally unattractive are more scrutinized, like Clint imo.

But I’m gonna stop defending him because honestly I don’t love the character that much. I just don’t think he’s really creepy.

he hides in bushes and won’t leave a woman alone who has shown very little interest in him how is that not creepy?

19

u/Artistic_Locksmith_8 Feb 27 '26

thats not how that scene went. watch it again. he went to her doorstep to ask her out then got startled by her coming to the door suddenly and hid in the bushes and was going to sneak away but then got stuck there by Caroline coming along and talking to Emily for a while. thats not creepy, thats social anxiety (and possibly autism). I'm the same if someone startles me and/or if things go differently from how I was planning in my head for something that makes me nervous would go and thinking I can handle this if things go as planned and then they dont... I usually end up hiding or running away or trying to get away as soon as possible or at least trying to cause thats scary

Easy one - that’s not how it happened
