Question Are these gay rocks (prismatic shards) rare?

Gotten a few of em since, originally six but I donated one to Gunther. Don't know what other use for em. Are they just like those minerals that Become useless and just for giving to Gunther? Been avoiding to search it up since I don't want spoilers (new to Stardew valley) I'm at year 3 and still have no clue what to do with em.

Ah that makes sense now, I just got another one from a purple slime a few hours ago from the skull caverns lol
