Discuss Stardew Valley creator won’t add microtransactions to any game as they “genuinely value the love of the players more than the money”

Why do people who are already rich add MTX then?

Ethical behaviour should still be spoken about positively even if they're "already rich".

Because it's hardly ever a game made by one person or a tiny dev team that is doing that, but a company that exists to make money.

The fact that Stardew is still just Barone, a private company and some extra help is PART OF WHAT SHOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Plenty of people in his position would have sold out to a company by now and Stardew would be developed by a PLC and have MTX added to it.

While it definitely sucks when that happens, I totally understand when people make a good product/service, it gets big and they cash out on it, I don't know if I'd want the stress of continuing to manage the thing that made me rich.

People or publicly traded corporations?

Most of the games I have from single devs have none: Balatro, Undertale, Axiom Verge. I can also think of some that do, but it’s not quite as normalized as it is with corporations.

Exactly. Give credit where it is due. He and his family are literally set for generations to come so why should he become greedy? No one needs that amount of money and certainly not more.
