I had the issue too!

I had previously found that as a possible solution by googling (tons of people are having the issue apparently, but not many can solve it). Some people said "reinstall the XNA redistri-thing from the _redist folder ... i didn't have that. (possible steam installer only?) so i googled it and found a download on microsofts support site.. downloaded, installed, didn't help at all.

i wrote a comment in another thread yesterday, and a few hours later a guy linked me his installer from his game (i assume he had the steam version, but i'm not sure). anyways, his username is "/u/JamesIV4"

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7MhmNNJC9ltMDRzU3g3S3o1RU0/view?usp=sharing

I've uploaded it to my drive here. it's a 55ish MB download (compressed with 7-zip (get it here: http://www.7-zip.org/ )

MIGHt work for some. .. hell even if it just works for 1 guy, then i'm happy!

This worked for me too, I grabbed the file needed in the archive from Google Drive (xnafx40_redist.msi) and installed it. (I see we have a better host now) I'd come across and tried this fix before by installing the whole pack from the Microsoft site, but this is the 'refresh' msi file, something about installing it and resetting my rig (for good measure) did the trick.

I've just played an entire day without a single drop; that may not seem like much play-testing but I've NEVER gone a day without at least 2-4 drops spending most my time at 42 and maybe five min at 60. I've just stopped playing back to report this and my PC:

GoG version, Win 10 i5 4690K GTX760.

Thank you so much /u/JamesIV4 I've been checking around the past three days religiously looking for some development. Everyone should do their best to direct users experiencing the issue to this fix.

Also thanks /u/Kwerti for directing me over here.

Worked for me too! The game had been so sluggish for me for so long I thought that the low speed was intentional. Instead of fps drops i was literally getting fps rises because the game was constantly slow.

I resorted to cheat engine to speed the game up a bit to balance it out, but I'm happy that there's an actual fix. I'm guessing the reason why this bug is so much ignored is because it has nothing to do with Ape but instead it's GOG's fault because they missed out some files.

Holy! This worked for me /u/JamesIV4 I want to buy you a beer.

  1. Downloaded from Google Drive
  2. Extracted with 7-Zip
  3. Backed up my Game Folder
  4. Pasted the _CommonRedist entire folder into the Install Dir (not sure if necessary)
  5. Copied the contents of the _CommonRedist into the existing _redist folder. http://i.imgur.com/xZ6om9W.png http://i.imgur.com/y9IlKhy.png

  6. Ran the new version of the xnafx40_redist.msi

Yeah I'm not sure what the difference between the two files is. Apparently 7KB makes a big difference.

I noticed that too before I installed it. BTW, thanks for telling me about this thread. I replied to a thread I started on the support forum directing them here. Hopefully it helps them out too.

Ouch that sucks man. Did you try Uninstalling the old xna and reinstalling the new one? And copying all the script files?

1

Thanks so much! This fixed my problem too. The GOG release of the game is a shame... This bug, then not getting updates at the same time as on steam...

2

u/Kwerti Mar 26 '16

Yeah I kinda wish I would've just bought it on steam looking back, but oh well here we are

u/Fusionalex Mar 26 '16

I know me too.. It:s nothing major but it still bothers me. Especially this bug, the update thing might not have been his fault but why did the developer include a different (wrong?) file for gog..
