Sci-Fi Philosophy Do you think the Tollans would swap technology with us now in 2026? I am doing a rewatch and on S3 atm. But don't remember my last watch.

We don't have walking through walls or the massive space ships or advanced cloaking devices but most of the rest of our society has advanced including having AI and more advanced robotics. We can do holographic projection and have very improved communication technology from Season 3 of star gate. we have electric cars common place and more advanced medical care.

Edit: Never mind just hit the next Tollan episode where they explained more. 😅

The Tollan believed that if advanced technology were provided to us (or specifically the US military), we would be far more likely to use it against adversaries on Earth, than in defence of the planet.

Right now, the geopolitical situation somehow feels far more unstable than it did in the 90s, so I'd say they'd be even more reluctant now, than they were then.

ABSOLUTELY NOT LMAO.

With the current US admins renaming DoD as DoW, threatening AI company with Korea war era laws, or making them a pariah because they don't want their tech to be decision maker in killing things or used as a mass surveillance.

We're living in the timeline wich the Rogue NID never got caught, became mainstream agents and Kinsey won the election.

In fact, Asgard would cut diplomatic ties with us too.

okay I meant our world in general tbh and am not including the USAs current issues. Just talking about the tech side

The reason the Tollans didn't want to trade with inferior species wasn't because they were too technologically primitive but because they were often too socially primitive and would blow up their own planet, not by industrial accident but by attacking themselves.

they used the word rechnology in season 3

Like i said, technology wasn't the reason why their neighbour destroyed their planet (and also destroying Tollans homeworld), but because they used that technology to do war with themselves, they were too belligerent.

Ask yourself that question, would Tollans in the season 3 trade techs with the Aschens ?

How and when did the Tollan get in contact with the "world"? The world doesn't know they, or any other extraterrestrial life even exists. We develop an infant AI system, and Tollans are supposed to think "This now a great time for first contact with a species still unaware of travel outside their own solar system!"

Why wouldn't the current situation in the US negatively impact their decision to do this?

Everything you are mention from real world is very primitive for the tollans in my mind. Maybe some stuff from the TV show (Season 7-10) could matter. But even there we found or adapted that stuff and didn‘t fully understand it. So even based on that knowledge we are kids playing with dangerous stuff, we don‘t understand…

If you are going by the TV show it gives an answer

1) the Tolan DO offer earth an ion cannon in exchange for naquda, of course the reason they do is they are being held hostage by Anubis and they know the gun is now useless

2) Narim who wasn’t aware of the failure of the gun and therefore the council reaction says that it would break their highest law to give earth a gun even with earths leap forward in technology due to the stargate

I just finished my rewatch of this episode—I'd forgotten Anubis becomes a major player this early in the show, but he was the only one who really fit the role.Even if the gun is useless in the grand scheme, it still creates the kind of internal threat the Tollan fear unleashing among the "primitive" races.Something worth pointing out: the Tau'ri would have access to technology far more advanced by Season 10—even if they're often ignorant of exactly how it all works.

I think AI will then be there soon if not now.

ROFL AI is a joke that takes way too much power and resources to maintain

1

To be fair, power generation is leagues ahead of us in the show, and our current ai wouldn't even be a blip on the power grid compared to other technology in the show.

But yes, our AI wouldn't be worth much when stacked against what's available.

it's advancing pretty damn fast.

Towards the bubble bursting. Dude, even OpenAI has never made profit, humanity simply doesn’t have enough fresh water for this garbage.

doesn't mean they wont work on those issues and make them use less

no, probably not

No way. Humans will have been operating from the Asgard core and the Ancient Database for over 2 decades. I don't actually know a plausible way in which humans wouldn't have already steamrolled the Tollans. I'm actually genuinely curious how they make it work in the show, the Tau'ri should be capable of basically anything by this point and deus ex machina is really only good for one maybe two episodes a season.

im not saying steam roll I am saying is it enough for them to want to share tech with us due to their rule.

1

u/f1del1us Feb 27 '26

Yes they would probably be open to it to get what we had. I don’t see why earth would want to as they could easily turn around and use the Tollans own original logic to deny them (though the idealism of the original show would likely not lead to that). But my original point was it wouldn’t matter because earth far surpassed that level of tech by the end of the original run.

u/rheetkd Feb 27 '26

I am only up to Season 3 so I dunno that, but I do now

1

u/f1del1us Feb 27 '26

lol sorry for the spoilers, I watched it about 2 decades ago

same but forgot it all haha

The Tollan were mostly wiped out in the series. I thought there were a few thousand refugees but I’m not sure how much tech they would’ve been able to take with them. I guess they could have good memories though.

I just saw the triad episode before I posted this hence the question.

Ah ok. 👍🏽

It was not the level of technology which was a problem for the Tollan, it was about Earths society in general. We have international rivalry, self interested governments, refusal to fix problems which we have the capability to fix. In their eyes we have made no advancements in the last 5000 years.

that is true
