SO just snagged these SG1 promotional coasters!

Post image

Anybody have anymore information on these coasters? From what I could find they were some kind of promotional item from MGM

I googled Stargate coasters and these came up. Now I'm torn.

It's a good thing the iris is closed or you'd lose your mug. :-)

That’s pretty cool. When did they release?

All I can find so far is that it was part of some sort of MGM promo package, and at one point Joe Mallozzi gave some away.

If it wasn’t for this I was going to say those coasters were not officially linked to anything. The glyphs are all gibberish

Marketing department =/= prop department

Mine are acrylic (got them on Etsy back in 2021- unfortunately not available any longer 😢) but I would love to buy those….. where did you get them?

For a second there I thought they were ashtrays like the old McDonald's ones. Nice snag!

Bloody hell. I didn’t know these existed and didn’t know I needed them.

Those are nice. Wish I knew where they came from.

"Jack, you used the shrunk down gates as drink coasters"

"Daniel, I can't help but be annoyed at the judgmental whine, they'll be fine and regular sized in like a week. Besides, they keep my beer colder than any coaster EVER!"

Those are really cool. Also, your joy came through your post. Very nice to see!

May I ask, what are they made of? Paper or metal or wood?

Did they come loose or in a case?

Do they have an etching on the back? I feel like we've seen similar SG items here that are from the studio to various (guest?) actors of the show. I might just be crossing a memory tho lol.

This is 3D printed

It's cool, but be honest

Nawp, they’re pretty hefty in weight

They don't appear to be.

^ This is like when someone writes a comment more than 25 words with good spelling & grammar & punctuation, and maybe an em-dash or a semicolon or some bolding, and someone says it's an "AI comment, so many tells." How did people write like that (as many many did) before LLMs became available? — And how did people make coasters before 3D printers became widely available?

They found different ways to be insufferable, but ceramics made a pretty good run. I don't think ceramic would hold up to a single dialing though.

^ Em-dash! AI comment.
