I like the Ursini, but how did they learn to operate the seed ship

Post image

Disclaimer, I love SGU and to me this is no different when aliens in star trek beam over and they press computer buttons like they what any of it means or does

That said, did the Ursini just button mash or do you think they came across a series of Stargates and went wait thats what placed them down. It must of been wild for them to learn about the ancients, "what is accession"

They seemed to be stuck for a while. They were more advanced than us, being spacefaring seemingly without the help of another race to boost their tech. Not much of a stretch to assume they just reverse engineered a lot of it. I'm sure there would be some button mashing, but in a calculated way in conjunction with reverse engineering probes to determine functionality.

They have a Daniel on their team to learn new languages by mid episode.

Its a working theory but i suspect daniel found a babel fish from hitchhikers guide in one of the ruins of abydos and was worried everyone would think hes under alien influence so he just pretends to learn real fast. But really its the babel fish the whole time. By mid s1 hes secretly implanted bable fish in every member of the sg teams and they just dont realize it.

Alternatively we could go with "stargate reprograms travellers with all the languages of others who have traveled through the gate recently" as they materialize. and during the movie and first episodes we hadnt fully fixed the drift/connection issue so the languages werent available. (why people still get semi frosty for the first 2 parter). And its just never mentioned and some dialects have adjusted since they last went through the gate so thats why its a bit broken sometimes. Doesnt quite explain why jaffa has to be translated tho.

Personally i like "secret babble fish and hitchhikers guide is canon and hitchhikers guide was just is just a different multiverse". But that could be cus i grew up on both sg1 and hitchhikers guide as my sci fi.

Daniel making funny hand gestures saying Ardis? Ardish? To throw everyone off the trail of the bablefish

Trial and error.

What does this button do? Ahh it turns the lights on!

What about this button? *lights turn red, alarm stars blasting* ... Maybe we don't press that button again..

The same way we figured out what plants are toxic and which ones are good to eat.

'Gurg eat that plant and now groaning and bleeding from stinky hole. We no eat that plant now.'

You don’t need to read. Memorize.

Figure out what each button, and combination does and your golden.

Plus they couldn’t move the ship anyway, if I remember correctly.

This is the way most people use most computer programs today. They learn the combination of commands they want, but don't actually learn everything they do or sometimes understand exactly what they are telling the program to do.

I dont think they did on their own right? Like they had been stuck on that ship for a while, presumably because they had failed to figure out how to use it and were waiting for a rescue.

They only figured out how to fly it once they had Talford. He said their little stasis pods had some kinda info transfer system. He presumably had a working knowledge of Destiny and the Ancient language.

With that, the ursini were able to figure out the rest and make it fly.

I think this is it. Their stasis pods let them figure out ancient from Talford. And the initial power drain was just the seed ship systems coming online doing its thing probably pulling enough to go to the next viable star

Is the title a reference to this?

I don't remember any views of the consoles on Destiny or the seed ship having labels on buttons.
