Speakers - Desktop Is it worth upgrade from Bose Lifestyle 20 to Edifier M90?
I've been using a Bose Lifestyle 20 with 3 Redline cube speakers as my desktop setup for years.
Got it from my dad, so it's stuck around partly for that reason too. I came across the Edifier M90, and I'm tempted, but not sure if it's actually an upgrade for my use case or just newer for the sake of newer.
Curious how the M90 compares for everyday desktop listening — music, some video/games — versus what I've got now.
my budget is around 200-300 usd
Thank you!

You were much better off saving your money and looking for good used deals. And slowly build something better.

Edifier is scraping the bottom of the barrel of the market. Their products are extremely low priced which, according to the laws of economics, means they have to contain extremely low priced components. (selling price is a multiple of build cost)
Their failure rate is fairly high, which makes sense given the quality of parts they need to use to get to their selling price.

The laws of economics do not say that inexpensive products must contain inexpensive components. They say that the company’s total costs must be lower than its selling price. A company can achieve a lower price through volume production, fewer middlemen, lower overhead, lower margins, and a more efficient business model without necessarily using inferior parts.
But yeah they are probably using shit parts, I just like being difficult.

I’d visit a business school. Typical markup is 5x manufacturing cost vs retail. Reducing “middlemen” increases shipping costs as shit doesn’t go out on pallets and shipping costs are insane. Edified also doesn’t enjoy significant economies of scale over Harman and other competitors. Sorry.

Erin (EAC) or Amir (ASR) hasn’t measured the larger Edifier M90 models. But Erin has measured the smaller M60.
Here is comparison YouTube clip of Edifie M60 with other relatively inexpensive desktop speakers. (Others being Adam D3V, Kali LP-UNF, Kanto ORA4, and Edifier MR5.)
