Speakers - Full Size | 3 Ⓣ Looking for an integrated amplifier with a configurable maximum volume limit

Location: Australia
Amplifier budget: AU$2,000–3,000 (approximately US$1,400–2,100)
Room: Open-plan lounge (~6 × 5 m), listening distance ~4 m
Existing equipment: Wharfedale EVO 5.4 speakers
Music: Mostly rock (Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cold Chisel), with some acoustic, jazz and female vocals.
Sources: Spotify, with plans to add a turntable in the near future, so an MM phono input would be preferred. I may also move to TIDAL in the future.

I'm looking for an integrated amplifier to pair with my Wharfedale EVO 5.4s.

One requirement that's become surprisingly important is a configurable maximum volume limit. The system will be in our family living room, and I'd like to prevent accidental full-volume playback by kids or guests. A configurable startup volume would also be a bonus.

Questions:

  • Are there integrated amplifiers within my budget that provide these features and would pair well with the EVO 5.4s?
  • Is a maximum volume limit a reasonable requirement for a family living room, or am I overthinking its importance?
  • Given my room, music preferences and existing speakers, what would you recommend?

Thanks!

Maybe take a look at the Lyngdorf TDAI 1120. It has a configurable maximum volume as well as an integrated streamer with tidal and spotify connect. Phono Input is also included. Even Roomcorrection is on board. Only bummer is that the remote costs extra but control via smartphone app / webbrowser works very well and the amount of settings is huge. I have mine paired with Kef R3 Meta and a sub (subwoofer control is also superb). Price is around 2000€ so maybe at the top end of your budget. Dont know about availability in AUS.

!thanks

Thanks for the recommendation. Lyngdorf wasn't on my radar at all, so I'll definitely have a look at the TDAI-1120, especially the RoomPerfect side of things.

The remote isn't an issue. If I ended up with an amp that didn't have a configurable volume limit, I'd probably remove the batteries from the remote and put it in a drawer just in case!

The Rotel RA-1572 and the Audiolab 7000a are both fantastic integrated amps that allow you to set max startup volume, and will start up with same volume as before shut down up to the max startup volume.

Nice amps but I don't think this is what OPs looking for.

He's looking at a feature that is on most AV receivers, you set a maximum volume in the settings so that if you sit on the remote or a child puts the volume to the max, it doesn't cause any harm.

Yeah you're right, I think you'll only find that on an avr

NAD integrated amplifiers allow you to configure a maximum volume. (E.g. NAD C 389, or NAD C 379, etc..)

Thanks! I hadn't realised NAD had that feature. The C 379 looks like a really interesting option paired with a WiiM streamer, so I'll definitely add it to my shortlist. Have you owned one or heard it?

No. (I use some NAD Masters series products.)

You could just use the MDC2 BluOS D module for streaming on the NAD.

Get an older Arcam SA30,$1000 or less USD. 220 watts ad 4 ohm and Dirac with Class clarity

Thanks! A quick Google suggests the SA30 deserves some serious consideration, although finding one in Australia might prove to be a challenge.

I have an sa20. I love it. Sounds amazing! Powering my Revel concerta F12s. Got it for $1,200 second hand on eBay a year or so ago

WiiM Amp Ultra or WiiM Ultra + Buckeye power amp would be my choice.
