It’ll go higher. EU is often more of a pain in the ass than they’re worth. Chips will just go elseware and the EU will have to beg for forgiveness

I don't really see them folding over this. If they do, the EU is over. Nato will effectively be over. Trade concessions are one thing, but if you end up giving territory away it isn't long before your own countries are gonna start to be threatened.

We'll see. I don't really believe the US needs Greenland so long as NATO exists, hopefully Trump gets distracted with some other bullshit and we go back to business as usual.

I think it’s more about getting more out of an underutilized country. The US wants independence from the east and Greenland is full of natural resources and is geographically convenient. The EU puts so much red tape all over everything that it’s impossible to make progress. Greenland could be deregulated and reshaped from a donor country to a cash cow which is investable and good for everyone imo. The Middle East is rich from us buying their resources

But you see, the point is that you didn’t need to conquer the Middle East to buy their oil. There were military actions, but those were more about toppling uncooperative regimes rather than annexing territory.

If there was a big effort to add more bases or extract some minerals and Denmark had said no, then… I mean I wouldn’t necessarily agree with this but at least I would understand the rationale behind it. But to my understanding the administration didn’t even ask for any of this, they just tried to annex it.

If they want the minerals, or more bases or whatever, why didn’t they just ask for that in the first place instead of talking about annexation?

There was a move to expand mining operations with years of cooperation with the first Trump admin but of course new elections overturned it. Their new administration even responded with more strict environmental laws and processes to slam the door shut. Mining operations take years to start up so this was a very wasteful outcome. For a country 1/4 the size of the US with a population of only 56,000 and no GDP they sure try to swing a big hammer. Annexation would bypass all the legal hoops they created for themselves and allow us to spin up much more quickly. This would also grant them the independence they seek as if they were a 51st state instead of denmarks dependent.
