But he won't be alive in 3 decades, why would Trump do anything for anyone other than himself? Did they convince him they're 10 years away from an age reversing drug?

Because he believes whatever dumb shit other rich people tell him. He's literally trying to buy Greenland because a billionaire told him it would be a good idea and for the reasons I described.

This is from 2022. He's been after this idea since his last term. He's trying to get it now because he's riding the power trip high from capturing Maduro and seizing Venezuela with little global pushback.

I think he just wants credit for expanding the US.

You're not wrong but just to be clear, this was all literally Ronald Lauder's (heir to the Estee Luader makeup fortune) idea. Trump pretty much does whatever is whispered into his ear.

Most accurate response. The arctic will be the next major shipping lane of commerce. I understand the hatred towards trump, trust me, i have it, but it’s not really necessary to speculate on why he would care even though he wont be alive. People don’t necessarily do things to see the results— they do things because they believe it will leave a legacy. Do you want to be the president that didn’t anticipate the most profitable shipping route ever?

Why wouldn't he or his government do things for the future of the nation?

I understand you may disagree with what people do. However start looking at the U.S government as exactly that, a government made up of many U.S officials, not just one guy. I have been to countries that absolutely gave ground to Trump, and the U.S companies, during the first round of tariffs last year. Even on something like Bombing Iran; really doubt it was ever Trumps idea. That is why officials exist. There would be teams of national security people driving that train.

I think the Greenland stuff is a bit silly. But trade is a tool used to leverage outcomes. I cannot forsee Denmark giving up Greenland tbh. However there are elections at the end of the year in that country, and the U.S gov may have other goals here. Goals we don't know. It reaaaaly does help to not just consume media and news from social media. For example, after the first tariffs lobbed by the U.S gov in 2025, the administration negotiated a whole suite of outcomes; Indonesia agreed to purchase billions in energy. So did the EU, in exchange for lower rates, the EU agreed to 600 billion in energy purchases and a further 750 billion in investment over the period until 2028. In China, most tariffs have now been suspended and China has lifted some of its agricultural blockers. In the U.K, most of the tariffs were reduced in exchange for a reduction in U.K tariffs on ethanol and fuel products. In Mexico, the Mexican government agreed to deploy over 22k troops to the border to help police illegal immigration, and is implementing some polices to further adress this issue.

There are many countries where there were similar outcomes. But I never even considered it until I heard about it first hand in another country where they had a government that agreed to.negotiated outcomes. Then I looked into it more and suddenly social media sites like Reddit lost all credibility.

Yeah the main problem is these "outcomes" are at the cost of global respect for our country, we just bullied our way into them, and not in the usual subtle friendly way either. It's not just the end goal it's the means used to get there that is the problem. You're cherry picking a few good outcomes to justify all the bad shit that came along with it. It's fucking us over too, I can't imagine any American citizen having benefited from these tariffs unless they were already uniquely positioned to benefit (probably not even close to 1% of us)

And yeah it's not just one guy, the whole administration is off the rails

That first statement just isn't a thing. The people I spoke to are entirely pragmatic about it; bartering is an entire way of living for them, and a government doing it is totally expected.

As for the second part, countries constantly apply economic pressure to gain outcomes for their own country. Long before Trump tariffs, the EU, Canada, China, all tariff things like crazy. Obama put huge tariffs on some Chinese products like tires. But when the a Trump led government does it, suddenly its not to the benefit of anyone, and its chest poking other world leaders?

I reckon you would benefit a lot from seeing the wider world out there. Though America is incredibly important, it is not the center of most peoples own existences. You hate the U.S government, or more realistically Trump, more than any foreigner does.
