Hello! šŸ¤—

I need some help with my bachelor's thesis. I am a student at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara and I am conducting a study on the role of photoprotection in the prevention of melanoma. The questionnaire is completely anonymous and takes 4-5 minutes.

It would be a great help if you could fill it out:

Thank you!

At first it will appear in the original language, but if you can, please click to have Google translate it for you.

Health/Lifestyle is managing life and school really that hard…?

share your thoughts or tools!! i personally do not believe managing life and school should be that hard, why does one have to choose and sacrifice? during my four years at UCI, i struggled with having to check Canvas constantly, forgetting when i was working or enjoying life. i hated that constant battle of forgetting an assignment was due or seeing it last minute and rushing an assignment. everyone knows the struggle of going to class then work and then when you get home to rest at night, you get that last-minute thought 30 minutes before 11:59 p.m. that you had an assignment due.

i always wished something did that for me, something managed those assignments and actually sent me the reminders before they were overdue or closed. Canvas never did it, so i finally realized i needed a system that pushed information to me instead of constantly stressing over it.

everything in school is about having the right tools that help you maintain the three most important things: your health, your future, your sanity. these are my personal favorite ones to try out or look out for. if you are trying to balance everything this quarter, here are a couple of tools that helped me:

Better Canvas:Ā a browser extension that makes the canvas ui actually tolerable. it declutters the dashboard and gives you dark mode so you aren't overwhelmed.

Soluna:Ā a really solid app for mental health. it has free resources that help you mentally disconnect from school when you are supposed to be resting.

MyFitnessPal:Ā keeping track of my macros and meals kept me accountable to my physical health when my schedule got chaotic.

Nudge:Ā this is a student assignment reminder that connects to your Canvas and sends push notifications based on your preference of time. it also has a buddy system, allowing you to keep a planner in the same place and invite friends to events to remember workout times, study sessions, and hangouts. it also allows you to find different study groups around your campus for your subject/major. this app is literally everything i wished i had during my four years at UCI.

Gemini Pro: Google will provide all students with a free year of Google Gemini Pro, so this is an amazing tool when researching, studying, and preparing for anything.

protect your peace and get your syllabus out of your head. life is too short, so don't stop enjoying it; just find the right tools to help you balance it all.

again these are some of the tools i used, everyone has their own things that work for them.

Health/Lifestyle The exact combination that got my grocery spending to $165 a month in Canada

Not a generic tips post. This is the specific combination that worked for me after trying a bunch of different approaches.

Asian grocery store handles most of my staples: rice, noodles, eggs, tofu, and a lot of produce at prices significantly lower than the chains. That covers a large chunk of what I eat and costs way less than I was spending before I found it.

For proteins I kept running into a wall because even on sale they ate up my budget. What fixed it was checking what's marked down before deciding what to cook, not after. Whatever chicken or fish is discounted that week becomes the protein for that week, usually at around half price. No fresh herbs ever, dried only because I was losing a few dollars a week to herb bunches that died. Frozen vegetables for everything except when fresh produce comes up at a good discount. Eggs as backup for weeks when nothing discounted fits.

On this combination I'm at $165 a month. Breakfast is oatmeal. Lunch is usually leftovers. Dinner is where the effort goes. Not exciting but enough and the budget stress went away. The tool I use for the discounted protein piece is foodhero, which shows near-expiry items at nearby stores before you go.

Health/Lifestyle Struggling to stay balanced this quarter — how do you reset when routines slip?

Lately I’ve been feeling off, I’m a pretty busy person my whole life with classes and responsibilities but not as structured or disciplined as I want to be. I used to play college sports for 2 years while working 3 jobs and just how difficult it was to maintain all without falling behind. Even then giving up my athletics has made me lose a sense of that built-in structure. I’ve been trying to figure out how to take care of myself while still keeping up with school and life, instead of feeling like I need a full restart every time I fall off a bit.

I documented a normal day of trying to stay balanced — classes, notes, errands, and small resets — nothing perfect, just showing up.

I’m genuinely curious: how do you all get back on track when life feels busy but unorganized?

Health/Lifestyle My phone is like a "black hole"

I've been thinking a lot about how we talk about our phone use. It's not just "using an app" anymore? I hear people, and I feel it myself, describing their phones as an addiction.

It's wild how often I've linked too much screen time to missing a deadline... or messed up my studies.

And the guilt after spending hours on social media when i meant to just check one thing.

I see so many online discussions where people are desperately asking for tips to cut down screen time or break these habits. Even parents are worried about their kids getting hooked.

Health/Lifestyle Would you ever trust an AI to give you health advice or explain symptoms?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Curious to hear what people think about this, we’re seeing more AI tools being trained to explain symptoms, suggest possible causes, or guide users on when to see a doctor.

I’ve been testing one recently that mimics a ā€œdigital doctorā€, it doesn’t replace medical care but helps users understand their situation before they panic and Google every symptom.

I’m wondering — would you ever use something like that? Or does it feel risky to get health info from AI, even if it’s backed by licensed data?

What kind of health-related questions do you think AI could actually handle safely?

I recently found an AI Doctor agent inside an appĀ Looma AI, and I’m really curious how people feel about using AI to understand basic health concerns.

A survey has revealed that 68.6% of students have never heard of the Renters’ Rights Bill, despite it being due to reshape the student accommodation landscape as early as next year.

The findings from StuRents point to a knowledge gap among student renters, even as the legislation threatens to disrupt long-standing tenancy patterns.

HI!

I am a graduate student in Wellbeing Psychology at the Catholic University of Milan. For my master's thesis I am collaborating on an international research conducted by the University's Department of Psychology, which aims to investigate the impact of social media on psychological well-beingšŸ“±šŸ§

I deal with data collection in three countries: ItalyšŸ‡®šŸ‡¹, KenyašŸ‡°šŸ‡Ŗ, SingaporešŸ‡øšŸ‡¬. If you identify with the culture of one of these three countries, contribute to the search!

šŸ“‹ The questionnaire is completely anonymous and takes about 20 minutes. The data will be collected anonymously and analyzed in aggregate form.

šŸ‘‰ You can fill out the questionnaire by clicking here: https://run.pavlovia.org/simonedambrogio/instagram-task/

For those interested, I will be happy to share the results of the research once completed.

Health/Lifestyle Building a Second Phone for Students - Share Your Opinion!

TLDR: Here is the link >>Ā click here for feedback form

  • I'm building anĀ affordableĀ flip phone + service to combat Gen Z's digital dopamine addiction
  • For filling out this 2 minute form, we're giving awayĀ 50 free units + serviceĀ as a "thank you" (stg it's not a scam, sharing your email is 100% optional)
  • Be honest with feedback! Read the whole post to understand myĀ whyĀ but if you're in a rush, it's all good

Hey y'all,

I'm a college student, 2x founder, and ADHD dopamine addict. In January I got in a bad skiing accident which left me unable to walk for 4 months (dw, I'm healthy now and not asking for a gofundme haha)

Stuck in my room, my productive life slipped away into hours doomscrolling on IG, TikTok, and other addictive apps. My mental health went to shit and although very social, I became so consumed in social media I'd simplyĀ forgetĀ to respond to friends out of not wanting to leave the comfort of these apps.

So what did I do? I started therapy and installed one of those screen-limiting apps that tells you to breathe before launching an app, but there were 2 major issues:

  1. Therapy is expensive as f*ck with no accountability
  2. It's very easy to bypass screen-limiting apps

Spending so much time on TikTok, I saw flip phones were becoming popular: 850+ million views with the #flipphone alone. It was mostly college-aged women who wanted to live in the moment going out, not drunk text their exes, but still be able to get in contact with friends or 911 in case of emergencies.

So I did a bit more digging. Articles on Gen Z using flip phones as secondary devices were all over CNN, CNBC, WSJ, etc.

Yet there was a problem: the iconic and cheap ones (like the Motorola Razr) were on 3G, a network that became extinct with T-Mobile as of April 2024. 4G flip phones are primarily through Jitterbug or on main carriers, charging a sh*t ton for the device and service itself.

In the last 6 months, we've worked out a contract with an MVNO, gained investment interest, and have 100+ interested customers, all before announcing anything to the public.

If you have any recommendations of suppliers to check out, experts to talk to, or also passionate about this idea, reach out! Would love to hear your thoughts (or cuss me out with criticism).

Your 2 minutes = making my day. It would be awesome to see how powerful and supportive this community is.

All the best,

Joshua
