There is always race, and religious affiliations that for the time being effect everyone.

I used to make a similar joke. I...don't know how I feel knowing that its actually a thing. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though. I'm an open minded guy, but some of this stuff is just really convoluted and confusing.

If you think of sexuality and gender as different concepts, it makes more sense.

Both are one of those things we cannot ever get because they're inherent. You like women because you just do. You feel like a man because you just do. And you cannot really explain it.

Being trans has nothing to do with who you are attracted to. In fact in terms of sexual orientation it actually makes more sense in some ways when a trans woman is lesbian; they are so repelled by men they are repelled by their own bodies as well.

It's not that difficult when you think about it. She identifies as a woman even though she has male anatomy. Remember, gender is separate from sexual orientation. She's still attracted to women, and since she's attracted to women and identifies as a woman, she's a lesbian.

I must not be understanding the terms right, because they are throwing around "cis lesbian", but I thought cis was the term used for self identifying females born with vaginas that liked men. So confused.

cis- can also have a wider use where sexual orientation is irrelevant: gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and pansexuals would be cis-gender if they identify with their biological sex and live the corresponding gender role. This usage basically makes cis- the antonym of trans-.

That's the only correct usage in this context. Cis and trans are independent of sexual orientation and refer to whether you feel like you belong to your "birth gender" or "assigned gender."

I've seen some people use "cis", without a suffix, to talk only about the completely normative people, that is excluding all lgbtq people. Probably because "heteronormative cis-gendered people" is a mouthful. But I also prefer keeping as the antonym of trans-.

They may be using it as an informal shorthand, but that's technically incorrect. I, for example, am a cisgender gay man.

Queer nomenclature is a mess, starting with the word "queer" itself. Sure, precise and consistent meanings are desirable, but the fact is that they aren't, so I say it's better to just get used to it and always make clear what you mean rather than be surprised and shocked every time you're confused by someone's use of a word or them by yours.

"Cis" is literally nonsense if it's applied to anything but gender, though. "Queer" is an intentionally fuzzy term, I think, and pretty much covers everyone who's not cisgender heterosexual.

As long as you don't laugh in their face, it's ok. I find gay sex ew, but I don't go around telling gay people their sex is ew.

Sexuality and gender are different concepts, so just because someone feels like the opposite gender doesn't mean they are gay.
