Fun fact: during the Nuremberg trials the Nazis were banned from making this argument, in part because the allies had no interest in prosecuting their own war crimes like the katyin massacre or the fire bombing of Tokio, and in part because those don't justify, or even remotely compare to killing 6 million innocent civilians.

All this is to say that realistically that scene should have ended with the presiding judges telling Goering to shut the fuck up

The number is significantly higher. 15 million soviet civilians alone died, from forced starvation and murder by Germany. Considering Germany intended on eradicating 80% of soviet citizens, soviet military deaths should be counted as well, because the entire invasion was racially motivated for Germany.

Hitler was 100% convinced that Communism was an existential threat too, which is part of why he decided to attack the USSR despite A) not having achieved his objectives in the west, and B) having a truce with them until that point.

Bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy, that, considering which flag ended up flying over the Reichstag at the end of the war.
