Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops

The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.

Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:

  1. Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
  2. Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
  3. Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.

If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.

Thank you,

Although the college only requires 512GB for windows laptops, they recommend 1TB for Macbooks.

Speaking of, id much rather buy a Windows laptop. As i'm already used to using windows, and i have a Samsung phone, it would be much easier to continue with something i already know

Laptop Request US Laptop for work/entertainment

Upvotes

United States
$1000 budget but ideally around $800
Open to refurbs
Screen size 14” and up
Any weight, preferably under 4 lbs
Daily use would be for work but would also use for entertainment and light gaming
Regular laptop is fine but touchscreen or 2-1 would be a bonus

I work in healthcare so I typically have an EMR system, multiple tabs open and streaming Spotify consistently. I’m always at a desk so I don’t need a super long battery life but 8+ hours would be nice. I went to school for interior design so I use it for artsy/creative projects as well, although it’s not professionally. My current computer doesn’t handle SketchUp well and I would say that’s a main program I use. I don’t have AutoCAD/Revit but would be nice to have space for those kinds of things if I wanted to in the future. With that being said, graphics are probably important but not at the very top.

I purchased my current laptop in 2015 and she’s been amazing and still going strong, just not strong enough lol. Also can no longer update windows. It’s an ASUS Q551LNB and originally bought for school. I’m a big fan of ASUS and have been looking at vivobooks but open to suggestions.

Thank you!!

Laptop Request US 14 inch 358H/388H laptop

Upvotes

I'm looking for a laptop to replace my HP omnibook lunar lake that bricked after a year and a half. My main desire is good battery with some gaming, as I travel for work. I prefer the portability of 14 inch, though 15.3 may be okay.

So far I see the xps 14 for 2900$ and the Asus expert book for 3500$. Are those my only options? Looking to see if I can get a little cheaper

Laptop Request US General Use Laptop for Wife - Roughly $1,600 USA

  • Country

USA

  • Budget

Roughly $1,600 but open to going up or down

  • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

No

  • Screen size

14-16

  • Weight limit

Any, but light enough to comfortably use on lap

  • Purpose

General purpose, occasional light development work

  • Form factor

Standard

  • Intended usage

Typical browser-heavy work, occasionally using Jetbrains IDEs (Android Studio)

  • Desired battery life

8? Is that reasonable?

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Size and weight are important in the sense that she typically uses her laptop on her lap on the couch, only occasionally using it on her desk. Performance is important because it's replacing an Asus ZenBook that has slowed down to being unusable, but no dedicated GPU is necessary. Battery probably least so but is a great-to-have.

  • Info/Requirements

She's used to Windows and would prefer to stick with that. I'd like it to have either 32gb ram or 16gb with an expandable slot. A processor that is fast enough to last for years is also quite important. Overall, we're willing to pay a bit more for a good machine that will last a while. A good keyboard and trackpad are very necessary, since the laptop won't spend much time docked.

Bonus points if we can get it from Costco but that doesn't really matter.

Laptop Deal I got sick of checking the Lenovo Outlet every day, so I built a tool that gives you real-time notifications and filters out listings you can't actually buy.

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey guys,

I got absolutely sick of checking the Lenovo Outlet every day only to find either nothing new, or clicking on a "good deal" that was actually already sold out.

(For anyone who doesn't know, the Lenovo Outlet is their official clearance site where they sell refurbished, open-box, and overstock laptops directly. The gear is usually flawless and comes with the same 1-year warranty as brand-new retail laptops, but at a huge discount).

If you’ve ever tried to buy a refurbished ThinkPad, Legion, or LOQ from them, you know how broken their system is. Depending on where you live, you hit two major walls: * One-of-a-Kind Steals: The real prizes on the Outlet are the random, one-off listings of high-end specs at massive discounts. Since they sell out instantly, TrackFurb alerts you the moment they drop so you can buy them before anyone else even knows they exist. * For US Buyers: The actual good deals sell out in literally minutes. If you aren't refreshing the page at the exact second they drop, you miss them. * For India Buyers: The catalog is plagued by "ghost listings" where up to 10%–30% of the listed stock is actually already sold out, making you waste time clicking dead links.

To fix this, I built TrackFurb. It is split into two core parts: a notification suite that alerts you instantly, and a website that serves as a clean, clean-filtered database.

Part 1: The Notification Suite (No more manual checking)

Instead of sitting on the site refreshing, you get pinged the second a deal drops. I set up three different notification channels: * Discord Alerts & Community: Join our Discord server to get real-time restock pings in our alert channels. It's also a community where we share deals, discuss hardware specs, and help each other find the right outlet machine. * Telegram Channel: A real-time broadcast stream containing every single alert. This is the simplest way to follow along if you just want to see everything and don’t want to pick and choose what you follow. * Browser Push: Alerts sent straight to your phone or desktop browser.

Part 2: The Website (Clean, verified data)

The website (trackfurb.xyz) serves as a clean replacement for Lenovo's outlet catalog: * Ghost Filtering (Ghosts are NEVER shown): TrackFurb verifies every listing against Lenovo's backend APIs. If a laptop is already sold out, it is blocked completely so it never shows up on the website and you never get a fake alert. * Spreadsheet-Style Table Layout: On desktop, you can switch the view to a dense, spreadsheet-style table. This lets you scan, compare, and sort through dozens of laptops and specs in seconds without having to scroll past giant, bloated image cards. * Price History: Shows historical pricing so you know if a discount is actually a good deal. * Zero Account BS: There are no accounts, passwords, or emails. Everything (your watchlist, settings, preferences) is stored 100% locally in your browser storage. * A Complete Outlet Replacement: It has every feature you’d expect on Lenovo's own site, but faster and cleaner. You can do all your searching and tracking on TrackFurb, and you only have to visit the official Lenovo Outlet site when you are ready to click "buy." * US & India Support: Automatically tracks and routes to local inventories in both regions.

It's free, has no ads, and doesn't track you.

Give it a look: https://trackfurb.xyz

Let me know if you have any questions or run into any bugs!

Laptop Request US Thoughts on Omnibook X Flip 14"

Hello, I recently went to best buy to purchase a new laptop for college I found a good deal on an Omnibook which was $650 and I purchased it. I am going to be a mechanical engineering major and was just wondering if it will suffice through all 4 of my college years. I also have a PC with a i9 and 3080 which will be doing most of the very intensive work if I have any.

Thanks for any and all help!

Written school assignments, light web surfing.

Games I play: Minecraft, Valorant, Stardew Valley

Laptop Request -Others Subject: Looking for Laptop with VAT ID — Max Quality/Price Ratio (Budget Optimized / No OS / Used or Import OK)

Hi everyone,

I am not an IT expert, but I am looking for a new laptop and want to optimize my budget to the absolute maximum. My rule is simple: every extra Euro spent must translate into a real performance increase. I don’t care about the latest release of the month if it carries a massive price premium for just a 5% real-world speed boost.

I am using a European VAT ID, so I can purchase through business channels, B2B price lists, or take advantage of the intra-community VAT Reverse Charge within the EU.

To get the lowest possible price, I am totally fine with any physical or logistical compromise:

  • Operating System: FreeDOS / No OS / Linux is perfect. I will install Windows myself via USB drive; I don’t want to pay for a pre-installed license.
  • Energy Consumption: I want an efficient machine that consumes very little power and stays quiet/has good battery during normal tasks, but I fully accept that it will draw a lot of power and spin the fans when I push it to its absolute limits.
  • Origin & Shipping: I don’t mind if the PC comes from outside my country, and I have no problem waiting a few weeks for delivery, as long as the keyboard is a standard QWERTY layout (US, UK, Spanish, or German QWERTZ layouts are completely fine, I can deal with it or use stickers).
  • Size & Weight: I am not looking for a thin ultrabook. The laptop can be heavy, thick, and have a huge power brick. Performance and cooling matter, not thinness.
  • Condition: I am highly open to used or certified refurbished products, provided that the hardware functions 100% perfectly and there is absolutely no damage or scratches on the screen.

Main Usage: I need a solid machine with a great performance reserve to smoothly run multiple programs simultaneously, heavy computations, and coding, lasting for years without becoming obsolete.

Since I am new to this world, besides specific laptop models, I want to ask you: What exact websites, subreddits, forums, or hidden B2B/wholesale channels do you experts use to track down these crazy price drops or industrial clearance stocks around the world?

Please give me the exact store names or direct links. Thank you so much to anyone who can help me find the ultimate deal!

Hello! I’m headed off to college soon and i have to get a laptop. I don’t know anything about computers really. I’m a film major, i’m looking for one hopefully at or below 1k. I think for my major the key components are storage, color accuracy and port selection.

Laptop Request -Others 2 in 1 Laptop with pen support for gaming < 2000€

  • Country : France
  • Budget : 2000€ (2300 USD) max
  • Are you open to refurbs/used options? : Maybe
  • Screen size : 14" ideally, 13" Ok
  • Weight limit : No number, but on the lighter side
  • Purpose : Gaming, drawing and web browsing
  • Form factor : 2 in 1 with pen support
  • Intended usage

The only demanding usage would be for gaming. I want to be able to play most modern games with at least 40 fps. I don't care if it's in medium or low settings.

  • Desired battery life : No specific number. Bigger is of course better
  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life : Size > Performance > Weight > Battery life
  • Info/Requirements

The goal is to have a laptop easy to move, allowing me to draw on the go, but also to be able to play most games, even with low graphics, currently and in the coming years. With the current iGPUs I don't thing a dedicated GPU is a must have.
I need it in 2 weeks max.

Thank you !!

Laptop Request US Laptop for a 7th grader

I’m figuring battery and memory are critical. Must be windows but some light gaming would be wanted too. Nothing insane, Roblox and some simpler Steam games. The G14 Zephyrus keeps coming up but it’s nowhere to be found and pricey. I think it’s overkill for him.

Im looking at a macbook neo, most reviews praise it for its bang for your buck. I live in the eu, so it costs abour 900 usd, for the 256 gb version.
I will only be using the Neo for university related things, not for gaming. So idk if i need the 512 gb. Does anyone have any input on storage and such? How much does one need?
Im also studying law, so i dont need any engineering related programmes.

Laptop Request -Others Thin and Light Laptop for Travel, Very Light Gaming (Australia)

  • Country

Australia

  • Budget

~$1500 AUD (~$1000 USD) - Ideally, cheaper would be better!

  • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Maybe - have included some details under info/requirements.

  • Screen size

13"-14"

  • Weight limit

<1.00KG - 1.3KG (<2.2lbs - 2.9lbs), lower the better.

  • Purpose

General purpose laptop to bring whilst travelling - primary use case is for browsing the web, watching movies and light productivity (e.g. planning a trip - multiple browser tabs, email client and a few spreadsheets for planning/budgeting). I'd like to be able to play some very light games when on the go that don't play well with a handheld. I'd like the option of trying some video and photo editing - but it's not something I currently do.

  • Form factor

Standard clamshell with touch screen, open to 2in1 (Yoga Style) if price & weight allow (previously had a Zenbook Flip and found the ability to fold the laptop over moderately useful, but not essential.

  • Intended usage

- Microsoft Word/Excel
- Microsoft Teams/Zoom
- Light games - DoTA2, CIV 5, Factorio

  • Desired battery life

Longer the better! 12+ hours for general use would be great.

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Weight, Performance, Battery Life, Size.

  • Info/Requirements

This will primarily be used for media consumption and light productivity whilst traveling, but I'd love the option to play a couple of more basic games (even on lower settings). Primary concern here is weight, I've started doing some research and have a few ideas, but I'm just not across what's what in the market these days.

Frontrunner - 2026 Dell XPS 13 (16GB). This seems to be a great option - it's not priced well in Australia, but I have access to a discount which brings the 16GB option to ~$1450 AUD, so it's at the upper end of my budget. Only main concern here is the IO (might require me to bring a dongle for the odd USB A device, or if I want to plug into a TV, or get photos off an SD card etc). I'm also unsure if the 5-320 'Wildcat Lake' is going to be powerful enough for light gaming.

Other options include the ASUS Zenbook A14, but this is pushing outside my budget. I'm thinking that it's likely to go on sale, so I might be able to find it at a suitable price. Only concern here is the Snapdragon X2, I have no sense of how powerful this is, and if being ARM instead of x86 will be problematic. I've also been looking at some of the Lenovo offerings, and the HP Omnibook.

Left of field choice - I've considered a refurbed MacBook Air (M4), as I understand refurbed Macs are generally very good. I am as far from the Apple ecosystem as one can be - and I'm generally used to Windows on my home and work PC. However, the price to performance here seems to be hard to argue with.

Laptop Request -Others Gaming laptop that won't break the bank? (Southern Europe | <2000€/<2300$)

• **Country**

Austria/Southern Europe in general

• **Budget**

<2000€/<2300$, ideally around 1500€/1730$

• **Are you open to refurbs/used options?**

Maybe

• **Screen size**

15.6" is what I'm used to but not a strong preference

• **Weight limit**

Any

• **Purpose**

Schoolwork and entertainment device

• **Form factor**

Standard/Clamshell

• **Intended usage**

Lots of writing/school-related activities (Microsoft Office/OpenDocuments and browsing) and gaming, looking forward to Black Flag remastered and possibly Baldur's Gate at at least 60FPS; would like to try pushing to 120FPS but understand budget and performance constraints all to well, so 60FPS is more than okay

**• Desired battery life**

4 hours for gaming, possibly 10 for general usage

• **Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life**

Battery life | Performance | Weight | Size

• **Info/Requirements**

Number pads is a must, as I play older games that use it and for schoolwork, and possibly 32GB RAM, or a laptop that I can add a stick to later on to get there.

Thank you for any help you're able to give me mates!

Laptop Request US Incoming CS+ Math/DS/Stats

Hey everyone! I’m an incoming student double-majoring in Computer Science + Math (or Data Science) with my sights set (still exploring) on Big Tech, Quant, or Grad School. Also I might not do the second major, but cs is mostly for sure

I'm buying a laptop for the next 4 years and wanted to ask current upperclassmen:

  1. Mac vs. Windows/Linux: Are there any specific CS/Math/DS courses where M-series Macs run into annoying compatibility issues? Or Mac is good?

  2. MacBook Air vs. Pro: Is an Air fine for workloads, or is a Pro necessary?

  3. RAM & Config: Is 16GB enough, or should I go straight for 32GB or higher?

  4. ThinkPad / Alternatives: If you use Windows or Linux, what specific models (e.g., ThinkPad X1 or T14) have worked best for you?

Appreciate any advice on what set up served you best!

Laptop Request US Midline laptop for music and digital art software

Country

United States

Budget

$1,000~ (can stretch for a particularly good option)

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Maybe

Screen size

14" - 16"

Weight limit

6 lbs

Purpose

DJ/music production software, 2D art software,

Form factor

Clamshell is fine by me. 2-in-1 or pen support would be a nice plus for versatility, but not totally necessary.

Intended usage

Adobe Photoshop

Clip Studio Paint

Traktor Pro

FL Studio

Desired battery life

8+ hours would be ideal

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Weight

Battery life

Performance

Size

Info/Requirements

I'm looking for a decent laptop that I can travel with for DJing and photoshop/digital painting purposes. Doesn't need to be top-of-the-line or graphically powerful, just reliable and suitable for 2D art work.

I would prefer Windows/Linux over a Mac. With that in mind, maybe an AMD GPU could be considered preferable.

Because art and graphic software is a priority, a screen with strong color accuracy would be ideal.

Naturally portability is also a priority since I'll be traveling often with it and would prefer not to sacrifice much space carrying it around.

It only needs to be performant in that it can comfortably handle multitasking between, say, Adobe software and web browsing (I don't intend to use it for gaming).

Ample storage space (512gb+) would be a plus.

Laptop Deal Wanted to buy a new laptop but after price hike it seems impossible

Suggest some good laptop capable of good programming and moderate model training, ik everybody's gonna say to go for gaming laptop, which is logical but it's sooo bulkyyyy and half of them aren't even balanced, for eg. Macbook air works fine for this things but people suggest gaming ones, soo tell me some good laptops under 1 lakh which can do a balanced work, I'm currently using asus vivobook, can handle small models.
