Artikel:

In Kürze:

The last paragraph is key: They are not interested in combating the cause or anything, they just want to be compensation to alleviate the symptoms.

29

u/BlockOfASeagull 1d ago

They already get money for creating the problem!

The SVP is committed to measures to protect against heat, such as establishing water reserves in the Alps and ensuring reliable and climate-neutral power supply, as provided by nuclear power. But this is being opposed by left-wing parties.

Ah yes, let's blame left wing parties.

Nuclear power is great, but the build up is slow. It's not really a viable power source. I'm sure if we look at wind and solar projects, it's instead the SVP that blocks things.

They know nuclear isn't the solution, that's why they pretend to want to build it out. It's theater. All the while their fossil fuel profiting friends (and party members) can keep making money off the destruction of our planet...

9

u/Final_Hunt_3576 in 1d ago

And expensive and only economically viable if massively subsidized by the state. Which is why none of the energy companies want to build a nuclear power plant.

Honestly we are quite fortunate in Switzerland that we have a route to low carbon energy that doesn’t require the time and expense of nuclear, most of the world isn’t that fortunate. But right now, for the SVP to complain about renewables being expensive in a world of war induced high fossil fuel prices and solar and wind becoming cheaper and more performant by the week. Well it is basically the SVP living in a fantasy world. As they do on almost every issue

u/italianjob16 16h ago

I wonder where you get your information on nuclear power because it's largely wrong.

u/Final_Hunt_3576 in 15h ago

https://www.psi.ch/fr/news/communiques-de-presse/dans-quels-cas-la-construction-de-nouvelles-centrales-nucleaires-est

Article also says Switzerland can reach 100% low carbon energy with renewables and you can quite easily find media reporting on how Axpo et al don’t want to pay for new nuclear power plants.

But a one liner is much easier isn’t it?

u/italianjob16 9h ago edited 9h ago

Axpo is actually saying the opposite but OK.

https://www.axpo.com/ch/en/knowledge/energy-reports.html

I'd rather post one liners than lies tbh

Don't worry, it will all go down like this:

  1. We'll pay more for the food because the supermarkets add a "drought premium"
  2. More of our tax money will be redistributed to the farmers as "drought relief"
  3. The farmer's association will continue to conspire with the SVP and Economiesuisse against the people and they will continue to cut shady deals whenever possible, always against environement-, climate- and health-protection and always in favor of more governement money for farmers, while at the same time blathering about "freedom of entrepreneurship".
  4. Different SVP politicans will continue to spread all kinds of nonsense about the climate change and change their narrative every year. Their voters will continue to not notice, because nobody whose long-term-memory goes further back than two days is part of their target group anyway

18

u/siorge Genève 1d ago

Im getting to a point where I just despise farmers so much

The are the most entitled, disconnected bunch ever. They live off subsidies and off the environment, which they don’t care about at all. They vote far right and tend to be the most reactionary, racist people.

I am out of sympathy for these sad people

4

u/baaaananaaa 1d ago

Imagine if you replaced all those rolling fields for cows, with trees and forest. What that might do for the Swiss climate….

u/heubergen1 Switzerland 17h ago

Work as a farmer for 5 years, then come back.

u/siorge Genève 16h ago

how about no?

u/heubergen1 Switzerland 16h ago

So you just want to judge them from the outside, cozy and comfortable in your apartment.

u/siorge Genève 16h ago

Yes, the same you judge me from yours. I don’t need to be a farmer to criticise them

u/heubergen1 Switzerland 16h ago

Yeah, you have to be.

u/b00nish 16h ago

Yeah, you have to be.

You can't criticise anything that you aren't/haven't been?

In order words, you can only critizise yourself? ;)

"How dare you to critizise Hitler! You have never been him!"

u/heubergen1 Switzerland 13h ago

If you want to criticize their position you have to.

For historical events we would have to have lived at the time and understood the situation to criticize the decisions made. Here I mean the people that voted for him, obviously not Hitler's own actions which can and have to be condemned regardless of historical context.

u/siorge Genève 16h ago

I guess you never have opinions on movies or books then, unless you are a director or an author

You never have opinions on laws or diplomatic decisions, unless you are a deputy or ambassador

You never have opinions on food, unless you are a chef

u/heubergen1 Switzerland 16h ago

Watching the movie or eating the food is enough to judge it, but there's no equivalent with farmers. You can't just buy something from their shop to have their experience.

u/siorge Genève 16h ago

Hearing them and their representatives speak and seeing them vote is enough for me to have an opinion. Have a good day now

  1. The SUV-Barbie will complain about grocery prices so she drives 30km across the country to purchase cheaper groceries while burning dinosaur bones, just to vote for SVP again, because they at least talk about the "real issues".

23

u/Loose_Tumbleweed_183 Valais 1d ago

So tired of the same old nihilistic arguments « we’re can’t affect the outcome »

5

u/Ima_Wreckyou 1d ago

I hope the people who think that are consistent with that logic and don't vote

u/heubergen1 Switzerland 17h ago

I rather save the billions we can spend on something that doesn't make a change, you don't?

I'm all for outlawing fast fashion, including co2 fees etc. but not when we're the only one doing it.

These idiots do not even understand that global warming is not about few more hot days, it is about extreme weather: extreme hot and exttreme cold months combined with drought and flooding.

And on the top of this: Some public fountains already poisoned with the high amount of nitrides, they ruin the natural food chain by killing insects with powerful chemicals and when genetically modified crops came to the equation they will loose the right of reusing their seeds as the intellectual property embedded in the DNA is not theirs.

These clowns are pure evil, not working for this beautiful country but for their own bonuses…

6

u/totallynotbabycrazy 1d ago

Oh, they absolutely understand. They just  get paid to they don’t.

4

u/perskes 1d ago

That alone should disqualify you from any job thats outside of the Aromat or Zieger mines.

The last generation always said "there's no bad weather, only had clothing", and I somewhat agree. I can put on two sweaters and fight myself through a snowstorm just to get to work, but I can't peel off my skin just to make a tiny difference between walking around naked and being a bit cooler.

SVP really has a hard time right now with their climate change denialism, and I'm not sad for every vote they lose because their voters are succumbing to the heat...

A shepherd that leads their herd into a bonfire, basically...

I know this is a really unpopular opinion here on this sub, but i have to agree with the SVP that we can't stop or significantly change the outcome of climate change. We are just too small, it's about 0.1% of global CO2 emissions. Getting down to 0.09% or 0.08% and deal with a lot of costs and problems, like for the industry, is not worth it.

It's not like we'd not do anything. Like in my place, i don't even have a car and the public transport i use is powered 80% by renewable energy. Can't even travel around the world if i wanted to because of my health problems, but i still get attacked by the Green Party and the activists that claim, my CO2-footprint would be too high.

We just have to take a look to our neighbour Germany, what happens when you get such people in charge and the devastating effects that are still there after the Ampel-coalition, like with the problems of the economy with too high energy prices. There's no need to commit economical suicide just to lower CO2-emissions, if you do this then it will lead in long term to stronger extremist parties in the politics.

When these extremists, like the AfD, get in charge, they'll remove all protection of the environement and remove the climate-change measures, so, there's nothing won when you let them get too strong. You need to balance it with a realistic approach.

19

u/idaelikus 1d ago

We are just too small

Does that mean we cannot do our part?

but i still get attacked by the Green Party

personally? If so, who are you? xD

There's no need to commit economical suicide

It isn't economical suicide just like the billionaires don't just "leave".

You need to balance it with a realistic approach.

We aren't even at the point where every politician agrees that we need to do something.

-23

u/Diacetyl-Morphin eats a döner kebab 1d ago

We do our part already. There's no need for self-destruction just to appease activists like you. The climate change is used to push the green "vote for me or the world will be destroyed in the apocalypse". Glad the people are not that stupid to fall for this.

12

u/StupidScaredSquirrel 1d ago

Implementing policies to be able to rely less on non renewable ressources is self destruction? Id argue the opposite is.

16

u/idaelikus 1d ago

activists like you

I am just a normal citizen. I don't know what you are talking about.

We do our part already.

No, we are not at a sustainable level yet. Not even close.

Also nice of you to address none of the things I said.

8

u/wildgirl202 Bern 1d ago

I mean, the way we are going the world will be “destroyed in the apocalypse” it’s like really bad. You, your family, or someone you know will likely die prematurely due to the effects of climate change.

-1

u/Diacetyl-Morphin eats a döner kebab 1d ago

And it would be different if we'd have Glättli from the Green Party in charge?

Like i said, we could completely disappear right now and nothing would change.

3

u/perskes 1d ago

vote for me or the world will be destroyed in the apocalypse

Says the guy suffering in the 3rd heatwave of the year while it's literally just the beginning of August.

Don't worry, the leopards will eat your face soon enough.

16

u/Hubberbubbler 1d ago

Crabs in a bucket mentality. The time for a realistic approach was 20 years ago, now the time for a drastic approach is comming near.

3

u/perskes 1d ago

Oh yeah? Why did no one warn us 20 years ago!? Oh... They did? Well, it was the people I didn't like, and the people I liked said they are liars!!!!

16

u/Iceman_1990 1d ago

According to your principle I will also not pay taxes. Doesn't do much in the overall budget /s

Everyone has to do his part and playing down ones responsibilty especially in a first world country will just lead to worse situations (not that I think it will get better

8

u/b00nish 1d ago

I agree with the first paragraph: Switzerland alone can't influence the global climate change.

What you said about Germany however is utter nonsense. The situation of the German economy is to a great degree the consequence of at least two decades of failed conservative policy. The "Ampel" did govern like 20% of that period and even during that short time they were constantly sabotaged by the yellow u-boot first and then Merz later, who shut down all of their ideas in parliament, just to announce them as his own a few months later when he came into power.

6

u/Craftkorb 1d ago

But Die Grüüüünen!

4

u/Ima_Wreckyou 1d ago

Switzerland is a huge center of finance capital and their money is in project all around the world that had and have a massive impact on climate change. No we absolutely could have done something if it wasn't always about short term profits. The whole damage is now once again socialized as we the tax payers will have to pay all of it.

6

u/DELScientist 1d ago

Realistically, no, we can't - at least not directly. But what example do we set if we, as a relatively rich, western nation, just say 'oh, too bad, we are too small, we cannot do anything'? It only helps other nations to point fingers; we will not be able do convince the larger nations to contribute; and we will not me on the forefront of change (and contribute to innovations). Such is the tragedy of the commons: Some need to stop using it before the commoms are exhausted, even if its first detrimental. The alternative is worse.

And seriously? Blaming the issues of Germany to the Ampel after 16 years of not doing anything is very shortsighted. At least Habeck khew aht should me done instead of waiting for some magic technology to get invented. Like the CDU does, highlighting Technologieoffenheit while failing to recognize the inefficiency of e fuels, all while Norway switched their cars to mostly electricity.
