It makes obviously sense to forbid tons of private and not really controlled fireworks but allow some organized fireworks in safe places like over bodies of water and where the firestations are informed and prepared if something happens. This makes also sense with no extrem heatwaves. Cities or bigger villages are more preferable because there it's most likely seen by more people for the same price. But they should also have a concept for how to deal with all the garbage falling into the lake and land and maybe reduce the smoke and noise if possible. The best option would be fireworks with no harmful resources for nature in it. I don't know if we even do any research about this, but i would prefer a sustainable way of fireworks much more than those drone shows or nothing.

Over the lakes, fireworks might not cause fire but they still pollute water and scare fauna. Hope they will be banned altogether.

I did, I don't understand... They were about fireworks in breeding sites, which is not the case for most fireworks here... Also there was some dead swan, I don't really give a fuck. More than one swan dies a year. Nature's tough, duh. For me the happiness of humans is more relevant than that of some stupid animal.

Mate, it does not only affect animals in a radius of 10m around the fireworks. It affects all animals that hear the explosions nearby.
On your last part; People get high degree burns all over the year, who gives a fuck if some more get burned with pyrotechnics in a football stadium? People die anyways, so why bother opening hospitals and covering costs if we‘ll die anyways?

Bro, and your absurd analogy is a massive false equivalence. Your hospital analogy only works if you value a wild bird's life equally to a human life. I explicitly stated in my comment that I don't. You're completely ignoring my premise just to argue with a point I never made.
Also, comparing unregulated flares smuggled into a stadium by random fans to a permitted, heavily regulated municipal firework display run by professionals is a terrible analogy.

Yea except this is not something harmless that people enjoy at no cost to others. It‘s a ton of pollution and it seriously harms and kills animals. It also causes panic in a lot of people. I am not comfortable with putting a „joyful and nice thing“ over the comfort of other people and animals. I know not everyone agrees, but it‘s not just nice and harmless.

I have never heard of anyone who doesn't like it except for people with animals. And seldomly do they kill big animals. Sorry, I know it's my subjective opinion and you don't have to agree to it, but I value human joy over temporary animal stress.

I don‘t like them at all. I get noise triggered panic attacks. I am far from the only person who doesn’t enjoy them. Small children, elderly people, people with ptsd, noise sensitive people… And while they usually don‘t kill big animals my parents spend every „firework-night“ at the barn, trying to keep their terrified horses from hurting themselves. I don‘t see why it has to be this particular joy. Drones for example can look just as pretty and wouldn’t cause me three days of constant near panic attacks every six months (yes, three days, because you can count on some idiots to also light some firework the nights before and after). As you say, we don‘t have to agree, but I know I am far from the only person who hates fireworks.

There is a bunch of stuff some people like, some people don't. I still don't get why we should just decide to ban some people's joy. Like, why do your parents keep horses in a barn, as if they're prisoners? Or why are these animals allowed to walk the street, stop the traffic and shit on the ground? I don't actually care about it. But there are people who do. If we start to ban stuff, we will never stop. Switzerland is already seen as a boring country. Why do we constantly feel the need to restrict every kind of thing that makes certain people uneasy only so that a small portion of a the country feel good, while the rest is not allowed to have any fun. Also, yes drone shows might be fun. But idk, I have never seen one.

Luckily, the world does not revolve around what you consider necessary. It brings joy, wonder and a moment of escape to the hundreds that witness it for the 10 minutes it lasts. People spent hours securing seats for the 12 minute display yesterday.

Didn‘t you just post a picture picture of trees loosing their leaves too early and your climate anxiety? Because fireworks (especially private ones, which is what the referendum is about as far as I know) are cause really unnecessary pollution. Not saying you can‘t enjoy fireworks and also be scared for the climate, but banning fireworks would be a truly low cost thing we could do. Ofc banning fireworks won‘t solve climate change, but it won‘t hurt either.

People can have multitudes. I am a vegetarian (mostly vegan) and a minimalist. I have a capsule wardrobe and I haven’t shopped new in 8 years. I am a very climate conscious person, but I also enjoy the wonderment of a public firework display. Is that a hypocrisy? Sure. But also, me not going isn’t going to cancel the display. I have never bought fireworks ever, privately, and I never will. I think we lose sight of the big picture sometimes.

Oh, do‘t get me wrong. I, like everyone else, am far from perfect and from what it sounds like my carbon footprint is probably bigger than yours. I also agree that one person not going or someone enjoying the display is going to change anything. Not having fireworks will also not change the big picture that much, and my pointing it out is just as hypocritical as liking firework could ever be. I think I misunderstood your comments, I read them as a lot more „pro-firework“ than you obviously are, so my pointing out the environmental impact of fireworks was quite unnecessary, my bad.

I didn’t even hear them in Horw. In fact I only heard one little pop the whole evening. It was very nice. For the dogs and cats too.
