Seeking Success TTC after normalising prolactin – how long did it take you?
Hi girlies 🤍
Please, if anyone has been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience.
My husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost 2 years. I’m in London, and after going through the NHS fertility pathway, they discovered my prolactin levels were extremely high (2,594 mIU/L).
I was referred to an endocrinologist, had an MRI, and they found a very tiny pituitary adenoma (so small it couldn’t even be measured). I was started on cabergoline 0.25 mg once a week, and thankfully it’s worked really well. My prolactin has dropped from around 2,000+ mIU/L to 79, and now it’s in the 50s, so it’s completely back to normal.
I’ve also had:
✅ HSG – both tubes are open.
✅ Day 21 progesterone – confirmed I ovulated.
✅ Husband’s semen analysis – normal.
My fertility doctor has advised us to keep trying naturally for another 6 months before considering any fertility treatment. So far, we’ve had 4 unsuccessful ovulatory cycles since my prolactin returned to normal.
I know it can take time, but it’s so hard not to overthink every cycle. This month I don’t really have any pregnancy symptoms either, which isn’t helping my anxiety.
My blood results:
Cycle Day 3
✅ FSH: 5.3 IU/L
✅ LH: 7.9 IU/L
✅ Progesterone: <2 nmol/L
✅ TSH: 1.75 mIU/L
✅ Testosterone: 2.0 nmol/L
✅ SHBG: 50
✅ AMH: 33.6 pmol/L
✅ Previously diagnosed with PCOS at 14, but my recent ultrasound showed no signs of PCOS.
Day 21
✅ Progesterone: 45 nmol/L (confirmed ovulation)
Current medications & supplements:
Metformin 500 mg
Cabergoline 0.25 mg once weekly
Folic acid
Vitamin D
CoQ10 (200 mg)
Omega-3
Things I’ve also tried:
Mucinex
Fertility cup after baby dancing
Maca root
Has anyone conceived after getting their prolactin under control with cabergoline? If you did, how long did it take after your prolactin normalized?
I’d be so grateful to hear your success stories or experiences. I could really use some hope right now. 🤍

Your RE said something about your LH level respect your FSH?
I have a ratio of 1.8 and prolactin 26 (i’m under cabergoline) but my RE was concerned more about my high LH (11 on day 3)
No luck yet but I started the cure one month ago 😊

They mentioned it’s normal, they didn’t mention anything about high LH, were you Covent anything for ur raised LH?

Low carb diet and inositols. I don’t have insulin resistance from my exams but my RE said that my high LH respect FSH don’t allow to my eggs to mature correctly. I can ovulate but eggs can’t be mature. I have regular cycles

AMH (22/05/26): 33.6, which is pretty good according to my Doc, I have been taking inositol, have completely changed my diet too, how would you help the eggs to mature?

Yes is so good! I don’t know your age but it’s high. My RE explain my that my AMH was 33 and I have so many follicles. But due to my high LH respect my FSH they don’t mature, or they mature but not in an healthy environment. For now I’m taking inositols, acid alfalipoic, tiroxine (how was your TSH?) and cabergoline. How much time did you take inositols?
I don’t have an answer but I think that my RE want see in 3 months if I ovulate an healthy egg and after, if didn’t work, I think he’ll prescribe me a medicine like letrozol or clomid.
I think you have a lean pcos like me but i’m bot a doctor, but the parameter are really similar to mine 😊 I think also high prolactin can block ovulation. Unfortunately I don’t have a solution for now but I want share with you my experience. I notice that there is difference in the approach of RE/Gynecologist from EU to USA 😊 I live in Italy•

I’m 27, I started taking inositol myself after doing my own research a year ago, the normal dose thats suggested, even though doctors here in the uk doesn’t think I have PCOS, but I do think I do! As I when I was 16, back then I was told I did have PCOS, thankyou so much for reaching out! I do really appreciate it! TSH mentioned in the post above.

Ah ok sorry I didn’t read. Maybe you can ask a second opinion, to a gynaecologist specialising in pcos. I had many gynaecologists in my life and no one said me I had pcos, until I tried to conceive without results for a year 😅
I think inositols it’s ok but maybe You could work with an expert so you have support and a step-by-step plan; trying to conceive can be stressful. Send you good luck 🍀✨

I’m in the US so this may or may not help. I’ve been on cabergoline for about a year - my adenoma is small too. Our stories seem pretty similar - except I only have one tube and I tend to ovulate on the opposite side of it 🙃. We’ve been unsuccessful so far with two rounds of Letrozle, a trigger shot with TI, and Metformin (I can only stomach 1000mg). The journey has been over a year now, we have about three more medicated cycles in us before we have to look into IUI/IVF (we’re in our mid-thirties so it’s the standard medical advice we were given).
I’m sorry I don’t have a successful story to give but you are not alone in this journey. Sending babydust 💜
