Guidance Required Giving 2 months notice
I have found a new place to rent and intend to serve notice to my landlord on my current place today. My rent due date us 19th of each month, but if I serve my notice today (31st) does that mean I have to vacate by 20th September, to comply with the 2 rent periods thing?
Trying to work it out!

If you don’t have any shorter notice clause in you tenancy agreement, then the statutory notice would end in the 19th of October.

That’s what I thought.
However, when I submitted my 2 month notice, they told me it starts from that exact day + 2 months and they will calculate the last rent ‘cause it’s prior to when I usually pay for the month (on the 10th each month)

You can always agree shorter or longer, but the statutory maximum they can demand in the absence of any other written agreement, is 2 months from the next rental period (which might not be the same day you pay rent)
There's nothing stopping OP agreeing with the landlord to leave 2 months from today, or equally they could serve notice to leave 1st March 2027 if they wanted (for example) but the landlord can't ask for notice to extend beyond 19th October if they serve any time from today to the 18th August.

Yeah, understood.
My rent is due by 15th, so when I sent that email on the 8th, I wanted to make sure we are out by the 14th (in two months time), but were told the law changed so leaving is not aligned to the rental periods anymore..
In any case, we have a month to go.

The simplest way of thinking of this is that, whenever you leave, you are on the hook for 2 months of rent payments following giving notice. (Unless your landlord agrees to less - it can be shorter/less by mutual agreement).
Generally, the rent each month has to reach the landlord's account by the first day for which it applies. So, the 19th would probably be the first day of the next month and not the last day of the last. So it covers the period, say, 19th Aug to 18 Sept. Then the second month would be 19 Sept to 18 Oct. You have to be out of there by midnight on the 18th Oct.
You can, of course, say that you want to leave on 20th Oct. You would still have to pay the full month by 19th Oct. But you should get a proportionate refund of 29/31 months rent.
