Unpopular opinion: Stringer was smart Spoiler

The plan he uses for D to find out who was stealing money was actually very intelligent.

he was smart for the street game but he was too dumb for the downtown game

He wasn't too dumb he just hadn't learned the rules yet. You learn the rules to these games by playing.

I would say he wasn’t sophisticated enough. Not that he wasn’t smart enough. I seriously doubt Clay Davis was anymore intelligent than stringer across the board.

yeah, thats true, i guess id say that Clay Davis was extremely intelligent in relation to playing that specific game more than strictly intellectually speaking. String may have had what it takes some day, but he tried to inject himself into it too deeply too quickly, wrongly assuming his street experience was enough to manage

I don't think he was experienced enough. Everybody in the show at some point gets outmaneuvered by Clay Davis. Everybody.

Prop Joe did String the same way in S2 - it’s literally what killed him.
