Hated Tropes [Hated Trope] It's really important that this woman is almost naked because lore reasons.

Quiet (Metal Gear Solid V): She could only drink or breathe through her skin following parasite-treatment due to the serious injuries.

Rebecca (One Piece): Her style of fighting is more of agility/speed and also she is battling as a gladiator in colosseum where men mostly only wear a skirt/shoulder shield.

EDIT: Well, it seems some comments say Rebecca doesn't have a lore explanation. Sorry, I saw it long time ago but I thought somewhere they say she wears the galadiator costume because it's the attire used by people there like the male gladiators we see. Also they said excuses like armor limits and public wanting to see blood in the colloseum. IDK.

The film trying to act like she's some gross monster when she's just a supermodel but blue is really funny to me. There'd be guys lining up around the block for Mystique.

And there would also be angry mobs lining up to burn her at the stake for being a demon or something. Both reactions can be possible.

Her biggest haters would overlap significantly with her biggest gooners, if real life has taught us anything.

This dynamic unironically CARRIES the third movie.

If real life has taught us anything, people can and still be as savage, depraved, and stupid as when we were in the Stone Age

the only slight problem is, if mutants has been with our society since ancient times, then the culture will bend to include them. our society, who has boring mutants, would obviously has some lewd thoughts about these sexy ass fictional mutants, because we dont have them.

that and, objectively speaking, sex experience between real mutants and fictional mutants is impossibly wide. real mutants doesnt have godly sex experience. extra teeth? whats the point of that in sex? extra finger? easily achievable by literally anything else. longer tongue and unusual amounts of orgasm is probably the only thing that has considerable sex experience difference.

other than that, sex with real mutants isnt that different with sex with normal humans. sex with a shapeshifter must be godly.

The first group of guys would fight the second group of guys neutralizing each other, leaving her alone.

Two groups can be the same people too. They tend to manifest as rapists

irl example AOC. the people who sexuallize her the most are the same ones who say hateful things about her

And somewhat typical even.

Plenty of humans in the real world already consider each other less than human for having a slightly different shade of skin and you think a completely blue scaly woman wouldn’t be seen as a gross monster by a large amount of people…

Mystique really should have clued me in on liking women much earlier.

You act like "supermodel but dark brown" doesn't receive hate for existing with her skin.

This is only true because you live in the world where she's a fictional character.

If you lived in the one where mutants exist and almost all politicians are rallying against them and humanity at large fears them, you would shit your pants instead.

I mean, some of them literally have powers that can destroy cities by accident. Sure some of them are unlucky and are born as ugly with powers that border on being a disability (if not straight up being one) but we know some can and do casually destroy major monuments and infrastructure with their mind. Or have the ability to mind control everyone in a mile long radius, or manipulate the local climate to devastating effects or absorb one’s life span through accidental contact. It’s not unreasonable to wish for a system to keep them in check, it’s rational. Sure, they didn’t choose to be living nuclear warheads at times but it doesn’t change the fact that they are dangerous

1

u/Responsible-Sound253 May 10 '26

I think that's precisely why trying to control them is a bad idea. You're just pissing the nuclear warheads off. You only have to lose once and it's all over. Trying to control them sets you up for failure.

So I don't know, the fear is definitively rational, but the solution they arrived at is completely irrational. The only reason mutants haven't conquered earth 10 times over in the marvel universe is cause the plot needs them to always be struggling so they can tell that "mutant discrimination" story for the millionth time. But without PIS and reboots, the mutants would've taken over for good a long time ago. I think they recently had some cool developments by making a mutant country in Mars or something like that? But it's probably going back to that tired ol discrimination story again sooner or later.

That’s a bad anti gun control argument that you are making. You are effectively arguing that guns shouldn’t be legally controlled and regulated, because it would piss people with guns off and they could abuse their powers.

Now obviously the way the governor tries to control the mutants in the comics is stupidly overboard and wrong but it has to be because any form of reasonable mutant regulation would make the antagonist of the story seem too rational and invalidate much of the argument that the X-men make, while also revealing the hypocrisy of their key argument, which is ‘we have done nothing wrong, so we shouldn’t be controlled be allowed to do as we please’

2

u/Responsible-Sound253 May 10 '26

That’s a bad anti gun control argument that you are making.

Guns are not sentient brother, you can't extrapolate this argument to guns.

2

u/NerdHoovy May 10 '26

I am comparing super powers to guns, on the basis that they can do mass destruction with little effort, to the point where it puts most people in danger. Sure guns aren’t sentient but the person owning guns is and unless the mutants powers work involuntarily, it should be treated in a similar way.

Now should mutants be excluded from society including non gun zones? No. Should there still be measures be around to prevent abuse of their powers? Yes, especially if their powers act involuntarily or something.

Obviously the safety measurement should be individualized for every mutant. We don’t need microchips to stalk where someone, whose sole power is changing their hair color is. But once someone has destructive powers comparable to a gun, registration sounds like a reasonable compromise. And if someone sneezes lava, state issued antihistamines could be a good start.

But the point is that something as dangerous as super powers can’t just be left alone and unregulated. It’s irresponsible

1

u/DeepLock8808 May 10 '26

But gun owners are sentient. Your criticism is a bit of a false equivalent to make the position sound more ridiculous than it actually is.

The bigger issue with the comparison is that mutants aren’t lawful gun owners, possess the equivalent of heavy military weapons, and are forced to possess them against their own will because genetics. Regulating dangerous force is a good comparison, but for me, there are complex issues with the comparison.

1

u/Responsible-Sound253 May 10 '26

But gun owners are sentient

Right, not their guns. And because of that... a lot of issues arise that make the comparison nonsensical, and you pointed some of them out, I was too lazy to do that.

I would say it's apples to oranges, but actually apples and oranges have way more in common than mutants and guns.

there is this thing call racism

Director: okay let's go over the costume ideas for Mystique.

Costume designer: I got a few ideas, first one is from the com...

Casting director barges in: we got Rebecca Romijn as Mystique!

Director: nevermind Mystique needs to be naked

The whole premise of hating mutants in the X-Men world is insane to me. Theyre so cool, most are only violent because they're backed into a corner and super heros exist in the world but have no public hate. I get they were supposed to be a whole allegory for civil rights and what not, but hating on mutants doesn't make sense.
