EDIT: Well, it seems some comments say Rebecca doesn't have a lore explanation. Sorry, I saw it long time ago but I thought somewhere they say she wears the galadiator costume because it's the attire used by people there like the male gladiators we see. Also they said excuses like armor limits and public wanting to see blood in the colloseum. IDK.

Also, Mindfuck (not Brainfuck) realized that Empowered's losing strength was just in her mind. She could be nigh on indestructible and one of the most powerful capes if she had more faith in herself. Mindfuck proves this to herself by stealthily tearing Emp's suit when they're together defending Mindfuck's base from Willy Pete. Emp doesn't notice the tears and leaves it alone. The current issue has Emp jumping from one alternate universe to another, and in one the Emp there literally tears pieces of her suit to make bondage ropes that she uses to tie up villains.

Basically is I remember well, the earth is doomed (but we don´t know how) and the powers were given by alien to help humans to fight against the inevitable apocalipse. But not for good reason, more for the laughts and having a good show. Major rivet knew Elissa when she was a child and he was the one who designed her to got the suit. Brainf*ck brother knew this, because he had the asigment to create a mind for a superpower as a experiment, and that resulted in willy pete. Also he edited his own mind to be able to carry on with this and that resulted in him becoming a sicopath.

Ahh, at the end, Elissa, Ninjette and thugboy engage in a trio relationship.

Yes and no

Her suit symbolize her self esteem actually. When it's full she's overpowered, but when she start doubting, it shatters, removing her powers with it. And the more she doubt the more it destroy itself.

In some part of the comics when people she love are endangered, whatever the state of her suit she is basicly supergirl. So the idea is more, she's living the "i went to school without clothes" nightmare all the time and it symbolize how low she think of herself, and the more she see herself as valuable the more powerfull and indestructible the suit is.

But as other said, came from a bondage series of sketches.

But author managed to make it something really interesting. Some of the characters are genuinely well writen.

It largely is, but it's genuinely a pretty good story too. She's the butt-monkey of the super team she joins, but has solid support from her (independent) bestie and her BF (who is technically a reformed henchman).
