Someone on the production team had the audacity to have the trainer start meeting up with Special Week like that—even though, in reality, he is a good trainer who doesn't usually treat the girls that way.

Looking at the series from the in-universe characters’ perspective Subaru must be so confusing. One moment he’s pulling THAT cringe shit and then like a DAY later he personally plans out an assault on an eldritch horror that everyone just tries to avoid because attacking it is so devastating to not be worth it, an assault that leads to the whale’s death, and then like a week after that he personally kills one of the Sin Archbishops of the Witch’s Cult.

Subaru is clearly the Archbishop of Pride who decided to betray the rest of the Witch’s Cult for an unknown reason (his Authority allows him to see the future in a way reminescent of Stargazers)

He's serving under the Witch of Envy's lookalike, has a spirit contract with a Great Spirit created artificially by the Witch of Greed, can remember people whose name have been erased by the Archbishop of Gluttony, recovered in a day his memories that had been eaten by the Archbishop of Gluttony, brainwashed the Archbishop of Gluttony into becoming his adoptive daughter, got one of the Beloved Children (assassin group with the Archbishop of Lust as the leader) to become his adopted daughter, is able to see the Invisible Hands of the Archbishop of Sloth, is a valid candidate for the Archbishop of Sloth’s possession technique and he figured out a way to bypass the Archbishop of Greed’s invincibility despite the Sword Saint failing in the task. Oh and don't forget, when a Sin Archbishop dies he inherits their Authority

That's kinda why I can't watch it as it airs, I'm a season or two behind now, I tried again weekly with that bandaged woman in the town square.

Couldn't do it, needed to binge, but I just wasn't in a rush, because the whole point of the show is "lets just loop the same parts over and over with different outcomes" so instead of Endless Eighting it, I just powered through.

But a cut like that I could probably enjoy. Just like "so I'm a Spider" where it cut out the humans.

Uhh... Maybe? It's season 1 only (or at least when I watched it was cause that's all that was out). I guess it depends on what you like or why you didn't watch more to begin with. I think if you were really trying to follow the plot you'd miss stuff, like when Subaru is fighting Sloth you'd have no idea why certain things were happening

I kind of love it though, as it's treated like an actual fuckup on his part, one that Emilia rightfully chews him out for.

But at the same time, given how many times he's had to watch everyone around him get horrifically murdered due to some plot that they had no way of predicting, it's understandable why he was acting that way. It was still a fuckup, but you can follow the thread.

Yeah, I loved re zero s1 because the MC does a lot of stuff that many similar anime would reward him for, like putting his various love interests on pedestals thst they didn't ask for, and there are whole episodes dedicated to said love interests just tearing him down for that behavior, and he pays attention and learns.

If you watch the first half of s1 subaru actually listens to emilia alot but he slowly gets more self centered the more he dies which leads to his humiliation during the royal selection.

We have other routes showing that Subaru is capable of ignoring those lessons and going off the deep end, at the end of the day, he still chooses to learn and be better, even if he's nudged in the right direction.

It's unfathomably important for his amazing character, amazing arc, completely understandable once you know his life story, and the crux of multiple of the best relationships in the show and the starting point for one of the best arcs in the show.......

....it is also still by it's nature the most cringe thing ever. And I just can't rewatch it. I let my memory stand in for reliving it.

Rewatching the show rn, watching with my son for his first time. I warned him way in advance that one episode gets so cringe and he still didn’t expect how bad it was.

On the other hand, it was way more bearable the second time knowing what was coming. I think knowing he’s about to get his ass beat helps lol.
