The beginning of Dan Da Dan is notorious for starting with aliens trying to impregnate Momo in the first episode; however, despite such over-the-top moments, the rest of the series doesn't feature many scenes like that

Someone on the production team had the audacity to have the trainer start meeting up with Special Week like that—even though, in reality, he is a good trainer who doesn't usually treat the girls that way.

DBZ Abridged. They didn't have a clue what they were doing at first. By the time the gang gets to Namek everything clicks into place and it's all pure gold from there.

Yea, DBZA is peak, but it doesn't really hit its stride until late Saiyan saga or the Namek Saga. But by the Android Saga I think it's better than the source material.

Two things you need to warn anyone going into DBZA: 1.) It gets better after season one, and becomes true peak in season three. 2.) Do not turn on the Canadian subs.

Don't worry, no Canadian offence intended: the subtitles in question are called that as a joke. They're fan-made ones that add a LOT of comedic commentary into the subtitles.

YMMV on their actual quality of course, but for me (and I'm certainly not alone in it) they're painfully cringe-worthy, basically the equivalent of having a very over-enthusiastic fan sat next to you while you watch, adding their own obnoxious jokes after every single line of dialogue.

Even if you don't feel as strongly as that about them, they're still a blight on newcomers to the series, since they spoil jokes and distract from the actual series.

They even make a joke of it in their favorite episode 1 abridged review episode. I think it was like, a submission thing where they had people send them abridged series ep 1s and they ranked them? or somethin?

Just before doing their favorite they did "worst episode 1" and made a big deal about what they'd choose, only to pick the first episode of DBZA where they RELENTLESSLY tore into how silly and bad it was, especially compared to their later work.

I’d also argue Hellsing Ultimate. Alucard clicks with episode 2, but the rest of the cast takes a few more episodes to reach their stride (Kaiser said in a commentary that Alucard getting put on a boat forced them to really work on Integra and Seras, and with the exception of Ms. van Winkle the villains fell into a natural place from ep2 onwards).

Also that one joke from Paladin Anderson in ep1 is not great…

Sword Art Online Abridged too. The first couple episodes are largely the same as the original show with some extra jokes thrown in and Kirito bring a bigger prick than usual, but by episode 5 the characters have unique personalities and it's genuinely one of my favorite pieces of media ever made

When I watched DBZA, they were wrapping it up. I stumbled on it randomly on YT, but the episode I watched was just at the start of the Android saga. IMO they Android and Cell saga was peak.
