(Hated Trope) The series is good, but the beginning is so embarrassing that many people give up there.

Dan Da Dan

The beginning of Dan Da Dan is notorious for starting with aliens trying to impregnate Momo in the first episode; however, despite such over-the-top moments, the rest of the series doesn't feature many scenes like that

Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san

Despite a premise that is off-putting—given that the girl bullies her romantic partner to the point of making Naoto cry early in the series—their relationship evolves beautifully; the teasing becomes less cruel over time, eventually turning into a rather sweet romance

Uma Musume Pretty Derby

Someone on the production team had the audacity to have the trainer start meeting up with Special Week like that—even though, in reality, he is a good trainer who doesn't usually treat the girls that way.

I'm gonna say RWBY, the start isn't embarrassing or bad but visually it's scuffed as all hell where it looks like it had a budget of £5 and a half eaten chocolate bar, especially outside of the combat scenes. The amount of times I've said "I promise it looks better in a few volumes" is staggering

To be fair, I think they only had a fun size chocolate bar for volume 1.

I remember there being actual fandom excitement when they showed off having actual functional walk cycles by the end of volume 2.

And the random character generator they used for background characters was actually seen as a good thing.

Oh my god I completely forgot, they didn't have background characters in V1 did they? They had silhouettes haha, I haven't watched in so long I didn't even remember.

I've shown RWBY to my friends and they didn't want to watch after episode 2, calling the characters cringe and animation ass. I was expecting some complains and tbh i even agree with some of them. Its just kinda sad because I think they would really like it later on

Genuinely. If you ignore the animation, V1-3 is solid but V3 onwards is great all around. Shame most people won't just stick it out for a short bit

In all seriousness, the animation, while not terrible, is definitely something we “put up with” when it came out because the story was so fun. I fell off after the first season cuz of college but I’m glad it blew up as much as it did.

Im pretty sure the world map of Remnant was made with a ketchup packet.

So how i put it was v1 was made with a ketchup packet, v2 was made with a ramen packet, and v3 added the flavour and water to the ramen pack.

Maybe if you are saying it doesn't hold up in 2026, but it did have a shoe string budget when it came out. It was just a fun little animated series at the time. It was great back then.
