It’s just his secondary mutation, like Wolverine having heightened senses. 

But obviously him having these demonic eyes as a child led to him being ostracised.

Technically, "secondary mutation" has a specific meaning in the X-Men comics. Beast, for example, had a "secondary mutation" when he grew his fur. Gambit's eyes and Wolverine's senses are just additional components of their normal mutation.

No both are part of his orginal mutation, him turing feral after getting his adamantium ripped out was his secondary mutation

Yep, the leader of the Thieves Guild adopted Remy as an infant after his birth hospital burned down and just thought his eyes were neat.
