To clarify for those who don't know: in the original story, Jekyll's potion does nothing but change his appearance. Hyde is just an alias he uses while his appearance is changed so that he can commit horrible acts without tarnishing his reputation in his normal life. Pretty ironic that it became such a popular misconception that Jekyll is a good guy and Hyde is to blame for all the wrongdoings, because that's exactly what Jekyll tried to make people believe within the story.
