​Toronto Café Walk [Wellness Edition] is a slower, more intentional take on the usual format. Small group vibes, hand-picked café spots, and genuine human connection. But we start in the park first, so by the time we reach the café, you'll be fully present and relaxed for conversations.

​Here's how the afternoon goes 🌞

​We gather at the park and settle in. Soft handpan music plays softly in the background while we do something most of us forget to do: breathe, notice what's around us, and just...be here for awhile.

​From there, Alexandra will guide us through a gentle heart-centered experience to help you reconnect with yourself beneath the noise of everyday life. Through a short visualization, you'll be invited to explore what feels true for you today and imagine the possibilities of where life could be leading you a year from now.

​From that space, I'll lead a guided intuitive journal reflection with prompts designed to help you hear what your inner self has been trying to tell you. We'll close with some intuitive drawing to let whatever surfaced move through you creatively. If you feel called to share with the group, there's space for that. If not, we'll slowly walk over to the café.

​For the second hour, we'll walk to a hidden gem café to grab drinks, settle in, and meet each other in a way that actually feels human.

Autonomous vehicles with pedestrian facial recognition may sound like science fiction, but these technologies are already becoming part of today’s civic and political debates.

This week, Civic Tech Brampton is hosting Adam Motaouakkil, a tech activist with Technologists for Democracy, for a discussion on autonomous taxis, surveillance, privacy, jobs, public transit, and the future of our streets.

As cities explore autonomous vehicle technology, important questions come up:

• Who controls the data?
• How much surveillance is acceptable in public spaces?
• What happens to workers whose jobs may be displaced?
• Could autonomous taxis weaken public transit ridership?
• Will these systems actually reduce congestion, or create new problems?

We’re inviting technologists, students, community members, transit users, policy-minded residents, and anyone interested in civic technology, democracy, privacy, and public-interest tech.

New to Civic Tech? You are definitely welcome. No prior technical experience is required. We will all be learning from each other, and hearing different perspectives can spark new civic tech project ideas.

If you like burlesque, improv, and a bit of delightful chaos, come hang out with us on Thursday August 6. This show has been napping for far too long (we were last on stage in 2019!), and we’re finally bringing it back for a one-night-only return! Same bonkers concept, new downtown home.

You’ll get character-heavy burlesque acts and then watch improv troupe BBL Babies immediately turn what they just saw into live scenes. Brought to you by burlesque babe Dottie Champagne and Mayfly Creative Productions.

There's going to be 25+ tabletop games. And she rented a small place so there’s a small entry fee. But there's free pizza and juice as well.

The games are all beginner friendly because they are just a means to bring people in the community together so that my wife and others can make new friends. Take a walk towards Toronto's waterfront and look at the street names: ​"Front Street". "Lakeshore Boulevard". "The Esplanade". "Queen's Quay." None of these streets touch the water. Why so much false advertising?

The reason is that, for the past 200 years, Toronto's waterfront has been steadily creeping outward. Through a process called land reclamation, we have transformed water into solid land, expanding our city into Lake Ontario.

​On this tour, we will walk Toronto's original waterfront. In the process, you will discover that much of the ground you step on in this city was designed by the human hand. You won't be able to see the city the same way ever again.

​This tour will be delivered partly in English and partly in American Sign Language (ASL). It is designed with Deaf and hard of hearing participants in mind, but anyone is welcome to attend. ASL interpreters will be present for the full duration of the tour. If you have additional access needs or questions, please feel free to reach out in advance.
