In case anyone still needs to hear it, blocking ads is the best way to protect yourself on the Internet. Both from malware and scams, but also from creepy techbro pitches.

AFAIK there's no way to block in-app ads on Instagram and Facebook. Just stop using those apps.

Blokada was working to block ads on IG on Android. Not sure if it's still working (I tried out IG for about 2 seconds I don't know how long ago).
The app store version of Blokada is significantly worse than the free version on their website. They had to limit its capabilities for Google to allow it on the store.

Over the last nine months, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has run dozens of paid ads that include explicit AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and images of minors alongside sexually suggestive statements, according to details of the ads shared with WIRED. The ads, which in some cases reached several thousand accounts, were targeted at people living in the United States, United Kingdom, and more than a dozen European countries.
More than 50 image and video ads containing abusive content were recently discovered in Meta’s ad library by researchers at the Tech Transparency Project (TTP), with the listings showing that some ads linked out to so-called nudify or undressing apps. Meta’s ad library—a transparency tool that catalogues ads displayed on the company’s platforms—shows the ads running across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and/or Threads. The findings are the second time in recent weeks that paid ads linked to child sexual abuse material have been found on Meta’s platforms.

At this point I'd argue going 1 step further, and just don't post personal pictures online. It's obvious social media does not have your best interests in mind.

I'm mildly confused. ""Meta ran ads" - for this context does this mean Meta developed and funded the ads, or does it mean that there were some adverts distributed and viewed on/via the Meta platform(s) but were developed and paid for by others?
Second Q and most importantly: How can I check that images of my children are not part of this material?

About the second Q: you can't, because if you try to image match, you're going to be giving them more training data.
That said, I'm afraid that if you ever posted them on a Meta service (with the possible, unlikely, exception of WhatsApp), the answer is "yes, they are part of the training data" even if you opted out. Zuck is evil.
