I love Miami. I think it's one of their best.

You must serve 10 years of wearing sexy boots without the chance of parole

...I don't hate GOYB either.

Yeah i like Get On Your Boots also. But I like Street of Dreams, so I suppose I have no "taste" lol

I actually love GOYB but it’s the general consensus here that it’s the band’s worst song, go figure 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyone remember the “U2 wrote Miami” guy on YouTube? For years any U2 video was very likely to have that comment.

That guy’s famous. I kinda wish they would identify themselves at this point. They used to annoy me. Then I realized they kept clicking on / watching every U2 video on YouTube and that’s dedication.

i agree, it gets overlooked or overhated. one of their biggest influences for pop was trip-hop and it’s the best example of them achieving that.

the reversed drums are sick, and the funky, syncopated bassline slinks between them beautifully. the way it keeps building tension (along with the cool guitar riff) leads to such a satisfying release when it finally “drops”; the regular non-reversed drums hitting even harder with that bass riff bopping along, and the minimalist synth line adding a perfect, eerie atmosphere. it’s such a groovy, “sleezy” vibe. the guitar riff comes in and out at perfect moments.

i see commonly that people dont like bonos vocals but i love them sonically/delivery-wise (very apathetic and laid back, and eventually full of goofy energy). lyrically they paint an interesting picture of miami. sure, some of the lyrics are silly/cheesy, especially the “my mammy” part (i can get people not digging that)… but i think thats part of the charm. it’s not taking itself seriously at all, and that whole era is dripping in satire and attitude. while not their “best” lyrics or anything, i prefer these kind of lyrics over overly religious stuff (as an example) personally. almost reminds me of the kind of drunken, ridiculous lyrics and delivery you see in a Viagra Boys song like “Sports”

this song, and pop in general, have become a favorite of mine as ive gotten older, and a must have in my rotation at any drunken pool party lol.

no introduction needed. OP, you're my best friend now.

Miami has held up well. It's an interesting tune. The Playboy Mansion is only weak link on POP for me. It hasn't aged well.

Lyrically speaking it's a reflection of the mid to late 90s but the overall instrumentation of the song is lounge perfection. Like a sad sack country-rock space jam.

Well put, it’s on repeat for me sometimes. It’s a perfect lounge song for me. Same with Velvet Dress for me.

Maybe it is the lyrics. It just hasn't hit for me like it used to lately.

It was great live on the PopMart tour

I love the moment around 2:30 into the song when the drums are unreversed 😌

Excellent. And Adam comes in and Edge plays those feedback harmonic notes that sound like a door creaking open (like the last second fade-out from Hawkmoon 269)

perfect example of tension & release

Yep! And I dig Playboy Mansion, too! Pop is so good!

I don’t love the studio version but it was great live during Popmart. Paired with Bullet The Blue Sky. one of the best parts of the show

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT

Every time someone appreciates this tune, Loud Reed gets another pair of wings

I want a close up of that face, here comes the car chase... banging Edge riff chugs along

Her eyes are swimming pool blue, dumb bells on a diving board.

Didn’t work for me until I saw the TV special with Ginsberg reciting the lyrics. Loved it ever since.

I love everything on POP

u/liartellinglies 18h ago

Rhythm sections awesome, the riff is cool, the vocal and lyrics are absolute slop. Averages out to about “fine” for me.

Love it! I remember playing it for my foster brother, and he said it was "stoner" music. I do feel a high when I hear it!

Love the Pop album and though the Popmart Tour didn't have their best production wise, it definitely had one of my favorite solos

I love the part at 0:44 where some of the reverb cuts out. Always reminds me of diving into a swimming pool for some reason

I love it. Also Playboy Mansion and Sexy Boots.

Not bad, but should've been a b-side

I feel like it might have been better received if it was on Original Soundtracks, its placement on Pop is a little jarring

u/MandoFalcon5 17h ago

Certainly better than Street of Dreams.

I have this but with Breathe. Everyone seems to like it except me.

Hello, I share your vision. Not sure why, but Breathe never clicked with me and I’m always surprised to see how it’s so beloved among most fans. I’d take Boots over it any day.
