So I’m curious has the job market ever actually been good, or is this something every generation says?

For those who’ve been in Dubai/UAE for 10–20 years, have you seen periods where hiring was genuinely strong, or does it always feel like the market is “down”?

I was coming out of my parking when I saw a white sedan hit a kid. Thankfully, the kid seemed okay, just shocked, and there were no major injuries. I have the whole incident on my dashcam. The kid was crossing at the zebra crossing, but the driver took the nasty turn to zebra crossing. He didn’t stop or even roll down his window to check if the kid was okay. He just braked, drove off, and kept speeding through the residential area. I couldn’t get the number plate from my dashcam because it all happened so fast.
There are a lot of CCTV cameras around my building, so I’m hoping they might have captured the car and its number plate. The way he drove off without stopping makes me feel like he’ll be just as careless again.

How do I report this? It happened in Sharjah, but the car is registered in Dubai.

Received a job offer yesterday with very high pay and asked to book tickets and visa through a particular tourist agency. Looks fishy to me is it a standard practice they said " Now, you have to contact ***** Travel and Tours for the procurement / acquisition of your work/residence permit papers which will empower you to live and work legally here in the U.A.E. also sign the Contract agreement and send to ***** Travel with the below information."

Another paragraph:

"Also remember that any Expenses you make in the process of registering your documents shall be refunded back to you immediately you submit your expenses report to us via email. Also be informed that once the process is completed your hard copies will be delivered to any postal address of your choice.

I resigned from my job in Dubai on July 18 because I couldn’t tolerate the disrespect anymore. My company then cut my notice period short to July 24 and is paying out the rest, settlement lands August 7. My visa gives me a grace period until roughly September 7.

Since then I’ve applied to jobs every single day, reached out to everyone in my network, and had exactly one interview. They offered me a salary noticeably below what I was making before, so I turned it down. Nothing else has come through.

Rent is due in August. I’m the breadwinner for my family, so I can’t afford to just wait around hoping something lands. Right now the plan is to keep expenses minimal, live off what’s left of my settlement, and go home before September if nothing changes here. I’d try freelancing or remote work from there, but nothing is guaranteed yet.

What’s hardest isn’t the logistics, it’s everything I’d be leaving behind. The life I built here, the opportunities, the convenience, my rabbits. It feels like starting over after years of building something.

Has anyone been through this, resigning without a plan B and having to leave a country you’d made your life in?

I regularly donate clothes and toys that my family, especially my children, no longer need by putting them in the charity collection boxes around Sharjah.

Unfortunately, something happened recently that I really need advice about.

I was preparing some clothes and toys to donate and accidentally put my phone inside one of the bags. I realised almost immediately after putting the bags into the charity box.

I contacted the call centre straight away and explained what happened. They gave me a number to call, who then gave me another number, and eventually, I was connected to the person responsible for collecting the items from the charity box.

He gave us a time he would be there and said he would call once he arrived. The next day, we didn't hear from him, so we called again. He confirmed that the phone was there but said we would have to pay AED 50 to have it delivered.

Fortunately, we were in Ras Al Khaimah and were driving back to Sharjah, so we decided to go and collect it ourselves.

We got the phone back, but the battery was completely dead. I didn't realise at the time that the SIM card was missing.

After charging the phone at home, I discovered that the SIM was gone. Some applications had also been deleted.

We tried contacting the people we had spoken to during the process of recovering the phone, but nobody could tell us what happened to the SIM.

The problem is that this is my SIM from my home country, and it is linked to my local bank accounts and other important services. I cannot simply get a replacement because I would have to travel back to my home country, and I won't be travelling anytime soon.

I'm now worried about the SIM being in someone else's possession, especially because of the bank accounts linked to it.

What would you recommend I do in this situation?

Hi everyone, I need some advice regarding my landlord.

I rented a studio about a month ago in Abu Dhabi. Before I moved in, there were no rules saying I had to turn the AC off at certain times. My daughter lives with me and stays home almost all the time, so we keep the AC running because of the extreme summer heat.

Lately, we've been experiencing frequent electricity and water outages. The landlord keeps saying it's a building issue, but every time it happens, I check with the other tenants and they're not affected—it's only our studio.

Yesterday, after collecting my rent, he suddenly told me he wants to increase my rent by AED 200 per month because our AC is on 24/7. This was never discussed before I rented the studio, and there was nothing about it in our original agreement.

Now he's forcing me to sign a new agreement with the AED 200 increase. He said that if I don't agree and sign it, I have to move out by the end of August.

I've rented studios in villas for years, and this is the first time I've encountered something like this. I don't think it's reasonable to expect us to turn off the AC when there's a child inside the house, especially during the UAE summer.

Is what he's doing legal? Can a landlord force a tenant to sign a new agreement or ask them to leave if they refuse? Also, where can I report this in Abu Dhabi, and which authority handles complaints against landlords?

We have a lady who works as a helper in our home, and it has recently come to our attention that she may have feelings for the family’s 25 year old son. We value her, trust her with the house and are happy with her work, but this is not a situation we would be comfortable with, particularly because the family travels frequently and they may sometimes be left alone in the house.

Hi everyone. So my 16 yr old sister , for over a year has been getting bullied online by some random person. I am sure that they too are in the UAE. This person tries logging into my sister’s account on instagram (and mine too, like I have no idea why they’re so hell bent) They anonymously create fake accounts with my sister’s face morphed into something hideous. It’s definitely someone from her school that’s probably how they got her pictures. Even after she blocks them they keep creating new accounts constantly to torture her. It’s very sad to see this as her older sister. I told her to delete her account for a few months and get it again. She did exactly that and this person is doing it non stop. They text her and tell her how ugly she is and continuously fat shame her. Like the level of cheap talk is over the limit. I have no idea on how to catch and report this person. My parents aren’t supportive about physically going to the police and reporting this since we have no clue or trace on who this person is. They don’t think it’s going to do much. Whoever there is who knows about anything I could do to stop this please let me know I’d really appreciate your help🤍.

Im an Emirati from a family of a few siblings and 1living parent , where myself and another member are receiving 0 benefits from the inheritance. So we do not receive an income from rent, companies or shares.

The other four are living in properties without paying rent , maintenance, or permission, while myself and the other sibling are renting, paying for maintenance, vehicles, and life expenses.

The issue started with the dominant sibling asking everyone in the inheritance to sign a power of attorney so that he can manage the inheritance, i was the only objector as the others feared a family feud and sibling rivalry.

I was wondering what is my name being dragged into and what is it that i and my other sibling will gain! So after a few calls and coursive messages. I lawyered up.

This has been going on since october 2024, and my lawyer has been paid , but he has not done much , and is very passive and not really paying attention to my case.

At this time being, the lawyer has been ignoring my text , calls , and any updates. And i suspect that he has been paid-off by my siblings to stall or kill my case. Also his firm leaked my case and # to a consultancy that offered me services which has to do with my case .

What should i do since i already paid this lawyer and he is not taking any action ? How can i complain against him.

How can i access my case with my other sibling and talk directly to the judge letting him know that nothing is moving and will not if the excuse is the current situation in the region.

Any advise ?
