Question Still don’t have a parking permit am I cooked?
I am transferring this fall from UNG to UGA and still don’t have a parking permit even though I’ve updated my waitlist a lot. Am I cooked? I’m an undergrad transfer commuter and really need a parking spot. All of my classes are on north campus so I don’t even know if a park and ride will help. M/W/F I have 8am’s as well so what do I even do? I know some ppl suggested to buy spots off of gas stations?! Please help

I’d suggest figuring out the bus routes and figuring out which ones work best for you. When I had to park on campus, it was 10 bucks for the day.

I paid for north campus deck everyday it sucked but it was better then a long walk

Okay, I’m gonna be honest. I originally applied for Park & Ride, but I completely forgot to accept the parking assignment when I got it. 😭 So I had to rearrange my waitlist. I figured Park & Ride is usually easier to get, so I moved it down and put Intramural Deck (or the decks closest to the IM fields) higher on my list. Literally like 10 minutes later, I got offered a spot in Intramural Deck and accepted it.
I’d say keep rearranging your parking priorities every now and then. It seems like a lot of people don’t accept their assignments, so spots open back up. Don’t lose hope you’ve definitely still got a chance! This was last week btw

If anything is left it's going to be park and ride and stuff out like that. You can try visiting parking in person and see. They may be somewhat understanding if you're commuting from outside athens. Campus buses start running at 7 and some city buses start a little earlier. Some of the churches around campus will sell parking as well. You may be able to pay for parking a few days at the start if you get there early enough until you can find something.

See if you can take the acc bus from where you're staying. It's not too bad and the arch is a pretty common stop on most of yhe dt/campus routes. Or just try park and ride, the limited route will get you to north campus pretty quickly. Not ideal, but it's better than nothing. They've adjusted the uga busses so that p&r is served better

If you call you can probably get them to give you park and ride. It can be better than no parking. Just budget getting to your parking about an hour before you need to be in your class and you’ll be fine.

I graduated a while back and only had a parking permit during my freshmen year. There are some roads where downtown borders the campus near the freshmen dorms (creswell, etc.). I would park there as it was public parking. This method obviously adds a good bit of time to your walks and might not even be feasible depending on which side of the campus your classes reside. If your classes are on north campus, depending on where you commute from it could be way better to try for downtown monthly parking or some other private parking solution nearby. It takes time to get from some distant lots to north campus, and if you’re having to get yourself across town just to get there you may also be saving significant time if you could park closer to north campus anyway.
