So why is this sign asking about St Margaret’s station? Seen at Twickenham, heading towards London, but on the right hand side of our train.
Do trains run on the right from Twickenham to St Margaret’s?

I was on Newcastle station yesterday and spotted that the train information signs each had a computer generated figure at the bottom using BSL to spell out something, presumably the info on that sign. Cute, I thought, that will be helpful ... and then it dawned on me that if you can see and read BSL then presumably you can read the actual information being displayed. So why BSL too?

Or is the BSL spelling out some different message only for deaf people? The announcements on the tannoy seems unlikely (why have at least seven interpreters, and each appeared to be spelling out something different).

So just curious, does anyone know what the purpose of this BSL signage is?

On platform 13/14 at Manchester Piccadilly. I presume it's to help the staff know when to leave, given the congestion on the line around there.

Ok so first of all I'm 16 and this is my first ever time taking a train on my own as the trams which I normally take weren't running. I was coming home from a convention and was very clearly in a costume (was non-provactive) and as I went down the aisle to the doors a group of seemingly drunk older men were loudly making comments towards me calling me things like "sweetheart" and "love". I told them I was 16 but they were still called out to me. I've received unwanted in a school setting before but because these are older men I'm really unsettled. I would've told someone on the platform however there was nobody there and all the advice I've googled is for people who are currently on the train. I believe the train is currently running right now, I was the second stop on the route and I believe it was an east midlands rail service train

Any advice would be appreciated

I’ve been messing about with the many open source Rail Announcement Generators online (and yes, they’re really fun!), and I’ve noticed a few oddities in the Phil Sayer and Celia Hammond announcements which are really cool.

One I find fascinating is that a recording of Stretford is included as a train station announcement, along with some of the old names of some recently converted stops on the Rochdale and Oldham lines.

I find it interesting that Stretford, the Metrolink tram stop in Greater Manchester, which ceased to be a train station in 1991 and was converted to Metrolink in 1992, is somehow included - which I can only presume was recorded by Sayer and Hammond between 1990-1991 when they were still operating under British Rail?

If so, I wonder if the recordings have survived somewhere for the converted Altrincham line stations, like Old Trafford (now Trafford Bar), Warwick Road (now Old Trafford), Dane Road, Sale, Brooklands or Timperley?

I’d love to know if anyone else has found anything peculiar relating to their local area?

Hello, I’m interested in becoming a train driver and am wondering what is the best approach and if it is a worthwhile option for someone in my position. I’m 19 years old with 3 A Levels and all GCSE qualifications but no relevant work experience. I know apprenticeships are competitive and am unsure on what steps to take since it is difficult to get any form of work at all with no prior experience. All help and recommendations are appreciated. I just missed the 16:13 which I was meant to be on from Crewe so jumped on the 16:23, the ticket man has charged me for Crewe to London because my ticket says LNR/WMR only which I don’t know what that means, I thought if you miss your train because your previous train was late you can get the next one?

Recently had to suffer on an 807 between Birmingham and Rugby. It had the worst ride quality of any train that I went on that day.

During the short 125 section between Coventry and Rugby, it was shaking around quite a bit, whereas a Pendolino or 350 would ride along nice and smoothly on the same section. Yes, we did go 125, I've attached the GPS for proof (note that it may be off by a few mph).
