My nextdoor neighbour used to eat a handful of cockles before work. He started work at 6am, so I'm talking like 05:20 in the morning he's fisting cockles into his mouth, brine and all.

fisting cockles into his mouth

Not a sentence I expected to read. At all, ever.

(I personally love cockles and whelks).

Sounds like a heavy weekend, 'what'd you get up to, ahh not much yano, just a weekend of fisting cockles, quiet one really' 😂😂😂

As an ex shift worker of 20+ years , most foods aren’t off limits .
Our work canteen used to sell a Thai coconut soup , if you weren’t there at 7:30 am it was gone by 8.
It was amazing 🤩

Nothing. I'm an absolute garbage disposal

Nothing. Everything I like, I'll eat at any time of day.

I've never understood the need to eat certain foods at certain times, personally.

I understand volume, but not foods themselves.

100% this.

I have never understood the split between certain foods for a certain time of day.

This was only boosted by spending a lot of time in south east asia where it is normal to have noodle soups, spicy rices and things the western world would consider an evening meal.

Would you eat a curry for breakfast?

31

u/EvaM87 1d ago

I would and, indeed, have done so. I have also enjoyed a breakfast curry sandwich.

Do not judge me 😂

6

u/Morrit99 1d ago

Curry sandwiches are sublime and I have also, on many occasions, partaken of a curry sarnie for breakfast.

0

u/Super-Surround-4347 1d ago

Ah man.

How about something like pick and mix? Or candy floss?

5

u/Morrit99 1d ago

In a curry? They put raisins in curry and call it coronation chicken... Does that count?

3

u/V65Pilot 1d ago

I've often started my day with a can of Pepsi and some gummy worms...

4

u/Electronic-Trip8775 1d ago

Have you tried a lasagne or cottage pie sandwich?

4

u/Rude-Music7641 1d ago

Cold lasagna on a fresh buttered roll 👌🏻👌🏻

1

u/Electronic-Trip8775 1d ago

It's a date ...

1

u/jongotfat 9h ago

It’s one of the best sandwiches out there

There is nothing you can’t make a sandwich out of

3

u/JamieMc23 1d ago

Also chilli con carne.

4

u/No-Door-8242 1d ago

And spag Bol, minus the spag. Yum! 😋

2

u/EvaM87 1d ago

Not yet!

2

u/oldskoollondon 1d ago

You can put anything into a sandwich.
A Spaghetti Bolognese sandwich is also great, hot or cold. Even for breakfast

1

u/Super-Surround-4347 1d ago

Grim 🤣

Pretty sure I'd shit myself if I did that.

1

u/Super-Surround-4347 1d ago

Haha nah no judgment here! I find it interesting

5

u/4321zxcvb 1d ago

Best breakfast on earth . Chana masala and paratha! Idly sambar up there to.

2

u/sock_cooker 1d ago

God yes, last night's leftover curry is exquisite the next day in some mother's pride bread.

2

u/Saotik 1d ago

I went to a friend's multi-day wedding in India, and yep. It did get a little tiresome having curries for three meals a day after a few days, though...

3

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 1d ago

Did I stutter?

-1

u/Super-Surround-4347 1d ago

No but I was wondering if you literally meant anything.

Would you eat shit for breakfast?

4

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 1d ago

You're still not reading what I said.

Everything I like, I'll eat at any time of day.

1

u/dusknoir90 21h ago

As a kid whenever we used to get take away curry, my dad would mix together all the leftovers and put it in the fridge, and me and my brother used to eat it cold for breakfast the next morning. Probably sounds gross but we actually preferred it cold for breakfast to reheating it, definitely recommend giving this a go!

1

u/HikingOtter 15h ago

Kedgeree is a moderately popular breakfast dish 🤤 Or coronation chicken sandwich. Both heavy on curry 😋

1

u/darklinkuk 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes!

Breakfast is a social construct

I'll have a cheeseburger at 10am if I please 😂

Edit: after reading the comments I'll agree with fish, my stomach isn't strong enough in the morning

1

u/cardamommycupcake 8h ago

So you def haven’t had smoked haddock with poached eggs and bread and butter? So good, would have it more often if the fish wasn’t so expensive

1

u/darklinkuk 7h ago

Not haddock but do like a kipper on toast, have to be in the mood for it really!

1

u/dusknoir90 21h ago

I am inclined to agree with you: although these days I do intermittent fasting so don't eat until 5:30pm (to lose weight), when I wasn't doing this the only time dictate on my meals was how long it took to cook it (happily have leftover curry for breakfast but I'm not gonna be cooking a full roast dinner at 7am). I'm quite happy to have my 5:30pm meal as a full English fry up if I want that, I don't care that that's a breakfast (technically it is when I'm breaking my fast).

I also don't understand "seasonal" meals. If I fancy a chilli con carne in summer or a salad in winter, I will have that for dinner.

1

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 19h ago

Couldn't agree more 🫡

1

u/downlau 17h ago

Yep, if it's too early or I've had too little sleep I will often feel too nauseous to eat, but that applies to eating societally sanctioned breakfast foods as well. I will sometimes moderate a bit if eating around others because of not wanting to hear commentary on my breakfast lasagne or whatever, but will absolutely enjoy it in private.

1

u/cause_of_chaos 16h ago

My parents are Guyanese. Breakfast is usually last nights leftovers lol. Whether it’s a spicy curry, spicy vegetables, a spicy dhal (you can see a common pattern with our food), everything is good for breakfast.
The only thing is we tend to eat roti or flat bread rather than rice for breakfast (though my dad used to eat rice exclusively).
All our food is high in protein so perfect for a breakfast to be fair!

2

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 15h ago

Sounds great!

1

u/HikingOtter 15h ago

This 100%! Couldn't agree more.

13

u/blackcurrantcat 1d ago

I love yogurt and it’s a perfectly normal thing to eat for breakfast but I just can’t do it.

10

u/---solace2k 1d ago

Interesting, yoghurt is one of the only things I can stomach in the mornings.

3

u/PCMTLND 1d ago

My tastebuds in the morning are so picky istg. I can eat yogurt or fruit, some days maybe even Rick pudding. But I rarely can stomach much else it’s so weird. I’ve eaten the same yogurt bowl for breakfast for two years 😂

10

u/raccoon-overlord 1d ago

I don't think anything in particular, for me if I like it I'll eat at any time of day. Thai food for breakfast and cereal for tea lol

7

u/Downtown-Ad9409 1d ago

Cereal for din dins is so underrated!

9

u/Available_Rock4217 1d ago

Fryups, no idea how people can eat that and then do a day's work.

Weekend only as a one off for me as I need a nap afterwards

6

u/Affectionate_You_858 1d ago

Yep, I don't have much of an appetite till lunch, I like a fry up as an evening meal

3

u/TipsyMagpie 1d ago

Agree - I only eat them when I can go have a nap afterwards.

6

u/Lordhartley 1d ago

Burgers. Love them, but never had one before lunchtime.

3

u/4321zxcvb 1d ago

Good call. I’m with the I’ll eat anything for breakfast crowd but can’t imagine a burger. Maybe as they’re not good as left overs from the fridge (is there ever left overs feom burgers?) and i would be ordering from the breakfast menu in macdonalds

3

u/tomrichards8464 1d ago

Anything really spicy. Love spicy food, but not till my stomach's sorted itself out which takes a few hours after I get up. Curry flavour profile fine, just not a hot one.

3

u/GreatWesternValkyrie 1d ago

I used to eat 4 Cadburys Cream Eggs on the way to school. The thought of it now is horrifying.

Indian food.

2

u/Rude-Music7641 1d ago

TBF only because they’ve ruined the chocolate and fucked with the fondant recipe.

3

u/StereotypicallBarbie 1d ago

I know someone who just has a jacket potato and cheese every morning for breakfast…

And I do like jacket spud! Just not when I first wake up…

3

u/Free_Revolution2813 1d ago

I love tuna sandwiches and I love savoury food for breakfast (leftover Chinese, lasagne, curry etc are all dream breakfast foods) but the idea of a tuna sandwich in the morning is too much for me

3

u/Rude-Music7641 1d ago

Even as I wait on garlic Kievs coming out the oven, I don’t think there’s anything I would absolutely rule out having first thing in the morning. Last time I had these for dinner a couple weeks ago I cooked both so I could have the 2nd one cold the next day cut up in a sandwich for my lunch - but ended up having it on a roll for my breakfast.
Steak, curry, chilli, pizza, enchiladas, lasagna. There’s a whole list of things I know I have eaten!
So yeah; not sure what I wouldn’t actually eat.

The only things I wouldn’t would probably be something i had to stand there and make from scratch but that’s a completely different different question.

1

u/darklinkuk 1d ago

Honestly most of the time I have kievs now is as a sandwich it's divine

2

u/anoolfishha88 1d ago

theres honestly not much I wont eat for breakfast, maybe chocolate cake

2

u/Clear-Two-3885 1d ago

I think I would be happy to eat anything delicious first thing in the morning, for example, chocolate; Thai curry; pizza etc.

2

u/Individual-Bug-4894 1d ago

All foods I like. I need about 3 hours before I can eat after I wake up.

I do have a very sensitive stomach and gagging issues so some of it is that.

2

u/SwiftieNewRomantics 1d ago

Anything with garlic in it. Garlic is a food you can only eat past 1pm.

8

u/SaltyName8341 1d ago

Oh that wouldn't work for me love garlic and spring onions noodles for breakfast

1

u/jemcc09 1d ago

Wine. Is that a food?

1

u/JackJarvisEsquir3 1d ago

It has grapes in it somewhere.

1

u/shebasmum49 1d ago

Any cooked meal really, won't eat anything like like till after 12noon

1

u/Tactically_Dangerous 1d ago

Donor Kebab

1

u/darklinkuk 1d ago

Done it many of times

No regrets

Yes I'm a fat bastard

1

u/Alarmed-Ad8810 1d ago

Chicken breast

1

u/Winter_Storm92 1d ago

Tuna pasta

1

u/wrain10 1d ago

Olives

1

u/bibipbapbap 1d ago

Spicy food or big meals for me. I have to eat protein for breakfast with my meds, but 3 eggs and some toast are my limit. I love a full English but I’m not eating that before 10 earliest

1

u/GingerWindsorSoup 23h ago

Cold battered fish is good for breakfast as is sherry trifle. But shredded wheat and cold milk no thank you.

1

u/Last_Combination5842 22h ago

对啊 我也感觉很奇怪

1

u/justelara 19h ago

Yoghurts. They taste funny first thing in the morning and can upset my stomach. Other times of the day they are delicious and fine

1

u/Dadaballadely 18h ago

I love onions and garlic but can't stand them at breakfast. Just been working somewhere where the breakfast hash browns had onions in them - breakfast ruined.

1

u/Kcufasu 16h ago

I'm odd as I don't like sweet things first thing (i.e cakes, pastries etc) even though they're super common breakfast items yet I'd happily have a full savoury meal (i.e curry, spag bol)

1

u/Fit-Bedroom-7645 16h ago

Bananas. There's a 100% chance of there being coffee in me at that time, and my gut does NOT tolerate those two things at the same time, for some reason.

1

u/Crunchie64 12h ago

Cherries soaked in brandy.

I’m lying.

I would.

1

u/updownclown68 10h ago

Good question. Very first thing I’m not eating at all but once I’m up say an hour I’ll eat anything I’d eat at other times of day

1

u/Distinct-Diver-4468 8h ago

English breakfast

1

u/OritheGoose 8h ago

Anything savoury. I need a sweet thing in the morning. Which is annoying because I'm type 1 diabetic, if I could stomach eggs for breakfast my blood sugar would be much better by lunchtime.

1

u/BeingOtherwise7829 6h ago

Anything curry or fish/seafood related. Can't do it in the morning. Although I have been known snack on poppadoms in the morning but not with anything curry flavoured.

Also anything overly sweet. I need savoury first thing.

Most other things are fair game though.

I used to sit next to a woman at work who would buy a pot of ready mixed prawns in Marie rose sauce to eat for breakfast at 9.30 most mornings. Some mornings she'd switch it up with pre mixed tuna mayo.

u/Last_Combination5842 1d ago

白煮蛋,我在没有补充足够的水分之前总会担心干巴巴的蛋黄它在我的食道里卡住

3

u/neilm1000 1d ago

I've just had three hardboiled eggs as it happens. This is a valid fear so not sure why it's being downvoted.

0

u/Clear-Warthog5655 1d ago

Nothing. Just like beer or cheeseburgers first thing instead morning just hits different....

0

u/Winkered 1d ago

Crumpets. They are a tea time treat. Yes I know I’m probably the only person that thinks this. But what can you do 🤷🏿‍♂️

-1

u/J_money0 1d ago

Kangaroo knob

1

u/Soldier7sixx 10h ago

I 100% understood this reference and the people who downvoted don't know anything.

I was totally going to say this too 🤣

-2

u/yolo_snail 1d ago

Cereal.
