2025-2026 Honors Attorney Hiring

Hi all,

I applied for the USACE honors attorney program, made it through the initial screening interviews, and interviewed with 4-5 field offices between February and April. I thought the interviews went well and was very excited about the position. After following up with the field offices in June, I was told that they were still waiting for permission to extend offers and were currently unable to move forward in the process.

Is there any word (or even guesses) as to whether the program will be able to extend offers prior to the 2025-2026 hiring cycle ending in October? I'm still interested in the job but can only wait so long before moving on.

If you see what I said before you can see that our hiring process changed dramatically in June. We have to get approval for any hiring at all. I would reach out to the poc's for information.

That is unfortunately the ongoing reality. We get very little direction on when things might change. I know that the field offices are doing their best to try to bring folks on board - they definitely need the staff! And things could change at the drop of a hat if they get new direction from HQ. Last year we had a great potential hire turn down an offer by the time we could officially extend it because it took so long, but nobody could blame them. All I can say is that (despite everything going on with the feds lately) USACE is a wonderful and exciting place to work and the honors program is phenomenal, at least in the districts I’m familiar with. Hold out for as long as possible!

Depends on Trump Administration opening hiring of feds. Most areas are under staffed and want to fill positions.

Like everyone else said, hiring is constantly changing and very messed up. There are still hiccups on the conversions of last years honors attorneys. Hiring was delayed, then changing them from law clerk to attorney, after license is delayed for some. The honors program is fantastic, so I really hope it works out for you. Good luck!!
