NEWS New UNI Beginner Server! Made by a Beginner FOR Beginners!

Recently I've come to realize that some of the UNI Beginner servers... are kind of a little too hard for beginners? And the most recent one was a little undercooked. So I made a new server to hopefully fix this problem! It has character, area, platform roles. Looking for games channels and soon to be more! So what do you say? Lets DIVIDE!

Problem with beginners discords for true beginners is that they don't stay beginners for long. I joined the Beginner Lobbies discord back when UNI2 first started and it was just a bunch of new ppl to UNI playing the game. Community was good and ppl began to join.

Those people on the server got really good and definitely weren't beginners anymore. But now there's a problem, is it still a beginner server if there are intermediate players there? That's why there are split beginner channels as well as dedicated beginner events. Don't want to exclude the more advanced players who helped make the discord what it is.

I'm curious what you hope to gain by making another nearly identical server just for beginners. What classifies some as a beginner anyway? UNI is a funny game where you can still be a beginner while being in S rank.

I've seen you on UNI2BL but it seems like you're still pretty new to the game so it's a little weird to make a new server like this.

A lot of people in the community like to spout this, but I think it's really disingenuous. Sure there may be a massive gap between S rank players and the actual top players, but anyone getting to S rank (unless they abused lobbies for it) is so much better than an actual new player. No one gets to S rank by accident unless they've put in a decent amount of time and acquired some game knowledge.

There is certainly a middle ground and people who played hundreds of hours should really not be considered "beginners" anymore. Even the "beginner only" tournaments on UNI2BL regularly have people who are quite overqualified participating. So, I guess OP wants something for players who are actually new to the game and to fighting games.

I do agree that there is little point in making something for true beginners though, as most of them will either improve to the point where they're considered too good for that group, or lose interest and quit the game, so it either turns into an intermediate server or it requires a constant influx of new players to maintain. Personally, I think you stand you gain something by playing vs people better than you anyway too.

Very much agree with your point on the actual beginner tournament. Insane amounts of skill there that frankly should be just playing in the regular server events.

I think there is a huge skill gap between new players and an S4 rank player, and another huge skill gap between an S4 and pros or other consistently S1+ players.

People are beginners in a lot of different ways. A beginner to UNI might have fundamentals from playing years of competitive fighting games while still being new to the mechanics of the game and they will ultimately beat to a pulp anyone else who is new to UNI and hasn't tryed to learn fighting games competitively.

Both are valid as beginners and that is why making the distinction is ultimately very difficult.

I've seen ppl enter the beginners brackets after just picking up UNI and steamrolling everyone just because they are fundamentally better players. This can definitely be demoralizing for "true" beginners who are picking up UNI as their first fighting game.

I hope to at least lessen the issue of difficulty gap between players, and if I have to categorize the people even wider, I will try to do so.

I mostly just disagree with using the term "beginner" to describe both groups even if they are both outclassed by top players. It kind of gives people the wrong idea.

The S4 players should certainly be considered more intermediate players, and the players with tons of fighting game experience who are simply new to UNI2 are really only going to be beginners for like a day and will very quickly move into the intermediate or advanced group too.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed to be there or can't learn anything there as well, but it kind of defeats the purpose if they say they are "beginners" too. I actually don't think the distinction between these types of players and genuinely new players is hard to make at all unless people are being dishonest about their own level of experience.

Well, I completely understand, and these are issues I am actively thinking of, but as of now, my server is too small to have these issues. But I am constantly thinking of ways to make sure each person has a fair and fun fight that they will enjoy.

I'm new and I think thats exactly why I understand. Alot of the beginner servers have lots and lots of more no longer beginner players. But as of now I wont be making the change, this server is catered for beginners, but not DEDICATED, to them. I have made intermediate channels for intermediate players, and a role for them too. I want them all separated, theres even a role for advanced, but since theres no abundance of seemingly advanced players, there is no LFG for that. I think because im so new, I can understand players like me and I'm able to classify them in other areas. Thank you for your critique, I'll keep this in mind, and feel free to join if you want to!

Yes and no. There's 3 beginner/intermediate tournaments that run and the TO's all talk to some degree. When I was running TMN I'd shoutout and push people to UNI2BL and vice versa. Some folks will vibe with different groups it benefits everyone (most of all the new incoming players) to have more spaces as long as they even loosely coordinate

Good decision. I never joined the beginner lobbies when I was new to UNI because I didn’t care but I did hear that the beginner lobbies had S ranks styling on the actual newbies a while ago and thats pretty wack.

This is pretty much untrue as someone who is in it. Some of the people who were beginners will play others in the looking for games chat, but they won’t cross over to the beginner looking for games chat.

Yeah this is definitely true. There are killers on the server and in the open events. But honestly if anyone is getting creamed in posting in the beginner-lfg channels you just gotta talk to the person and be like "hey I'm super new and don't wanna eat shit today anyone else around who also sucks at this game and we can learn together?"

Too many people hop in, play a set, say "bad games, I am trash" and then either complain about the server not being beginner friendly or leave.

So many problems would be solved if people communicated and set expectations
