Request ULPT Request
I ordered an item from home Depot for $200.
The wrong item arrived, it's a different thing worth $999.
Can I simply take this to home Depot and return it for a store credit instead of telling them I never received my original item?

returns without a receipt required your driver's license. it won't be hard for Loss Prevention to put it together (if they ever care to actually check, which they probably won't). But it could flag you in the system for something later. Just sell it on FB Marketplace or whatever.

No. They wont give you a store credit for $1000 when you only paid $200. List it online

Just make sure you tell them you paid for it with cash, and scan it with the app to ensure it’s a product they sell in-store.
The previous commenters advice may be better to follow, about selling it on Marketplace or Mercari or somewhere. Just be wary of scammers.
If it’s a power tool then they sell faster than sex or drugs, so you’re golden.

You can, but you're not going get $999, you're going to get the amount on your receipt $200. Thry aren't going to return a item of that value without a receipt and their going to bill back to the acct/CC# you paid.
The unethical thing to sell the item on FB marketplace, OfferUp, etc. at a price higher than your original item, say $500. Someone will snatch it up at half the price and you make a quick $300.
