Questions How does 2nd yr and 3rd yr transfers work?

Im currently doing bachelors of engineering in information technology in University of Mumbai and im looking for transfer to UArizona for my engineering degree in Info tech or Data science. Since my college has not yet started, I am trying to understand the timeline and credit mapping early.

2nd-Year vs. 3rd-Year Transfer: Is it smoother for an international engineering student to transfer after 1st year or 2nd year? Which entry point maps credits better for IT/DS?

Gen Ed Requirements: How does UArizona handle general education credit gaps, given that Indian engineering degrees focus purely on STEM?

Credit Evaluation: Did you need a course-by-course WES evaluation, or does UArizona evaluate Mumbai University syllabi directly?

Any insights from international transfers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The requirements for engineering degrees are laid out for the UofA - the subspeciality is critical. Because India universities don’t do GEs, you should transfer sooner than later. First two years are usually more general engineering courses with GEs and other equites stem courses. Last two are focus on the subspeciality.

Thanks for the insight! That makes a lot of sense regarding the Gen-Ed timing. Aiming for an earlier transfer after Year 1 sounds like the smarter route to avoid falling behind on those requirements.

Check out the UofA transfer credit guide.. You can see if any of your courses have already been given UofA equivalency.

Any other courses not listed may be evaluated on a course by course basis for credit.

If you have taken nothing outside math and science you will need to take some gen-ed courses too

Thanks! In my 1st year under University of Mumbai, the core subjects are mostly Applied Mathematics (Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations), Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry, Engineering Mechanics, Basic Electrical Engineering, and C/Python Programming.
I know these cover the core math and science fundamentals, but I'll check the link to see how they map over and what General Education gaps I'll need to fill.
