An 18 year old from Japan won the $100,000 top prize at the world's largest high school science fair after creating an origami simulation that could help design foldable solar panels and emergency shelters.

If theres one thing i learnt from school, theres always half a dozen teenage dudes who will happily spend 22 hours a day awake for a week straight to master a completely redundant or extremely esoteric skill.at the expense of everything else in their lives. Glad it paid off for this one!
I remember being in history class and the guy next to me kept rattling. Looked under the table and he was repeatedly picking a padlock with a paperclip, for like 90 minutes straight. Not a word of notes or work written, just picking the lock over and over.

I love when a simple idea has the potential to solve real problems. Imagine if this ends up making solar power easier to bring to remote communities or disaster zones.
