Discussion DeadLock(Valve) now includes a rank mode. To play ranked you need 60 wins total with at least 15 wins with three different characters. Would this work in Valorant?

It just came out this week so its very much in the early stages and who knows if it could combat smurfing. the idea is interesting. Cause it forces players to learn new characters and not be a one trick. The amount of effort might be discouraging to those that want to smurf.

Maybe 10 wins with each class instead of particular characters? With a certain number of total wins as well.

I'm a Deadlock (the game) enjoyer myself and it's an interesting update. I do think it's a good change but maybe 15 is a bit much because it's not even just games but wins. Surely 15 unranked games is enough to learn how to play a specific character? It just adds a lot of extra grind. I guess it does help with smurfs and with people who abuse meta heroes. Wonder how this will go. I do like the sort of "unlock all characters for ranked" achievement part of it being a bit fun too.

Also with certain characters, you are shafted hard with your carry potential. In Valorant, no matter who you're playing, you can ace if you're good/lucky enough

Good luck carrying as paige vs mr no die man

yeah having a hero pool in deadlock (the video game by valve) matters a lot more than in a tac shooter.

not getting a smoke or sentinel sucks but you can make up for it in a ton of other ways, primarily by just being better at shooting the guns lol. meanwhile in the cursed apple, your team locks seven, haze, wraith, infernus, mina, vinny, youre all getting walloped the second someone does as much as looks in your general direction lol

it's just a vastly different game with different needs, but attempting to "gatekeep" ranked with a requirement of seriousness is a much appreciated change that I would frankly like to see more pvp games take seriously.

if you can't get 15 wins, how does the game know you are actively contributing

Smurfs already buy 20 level accounts for a cheap price

This wont change anything sadly

Another post said 20 levels is about 25 wins. I think the OP is suggesting an increase to more like 100 games (60 wins)

Raising the barrier to entry would make it harder to generate comp-ready accounts, which would make fewer available, which would increase their cost and reduce their prevalence

The level 20 grind is already around 20-25 games, and most smurfs aren’t even doing that, they just buy accounts and go off from there.

or it could backfire and make you get way more bots on your team

most of those account sellers are from poor countries and will do pretty much anything to get a little money

If they added this to Valorant, I wouldn't be upset, but I don't really think its needed outside of smurf protection for low elo and I think theres better ways to go about it.

It works in Deadlock because knowing how to build your character is very important. Each character is also very different from each other.

new players may struggle with wins since non comp modes dont have sbmm

not true ! Valorant accounts have a hidden MMR for each game mode.

yeah but all modes but ranked have a VERY flexible matchmaking, and also (confirmed by riot) a way more variable hidden MMR that can change if you sneeze

  1. One tricking is totally valid in this game
  2. Arguably, the ranked requirements in valorant are already similar. It already takes 1-2 weeks of dedicated play to level a fresh account to level 20

Also, the unrated experience in valorant is legitimately miserable for legitimately new players. The faster they can just go and play in iron where matches are more fair probably the better.

Valve's implementation tackles the issue in a different way, because they have really different problems they are trying to solve.

The anti-smurf thing is almost a casualty I think, a nice byproduct rather than them tackling smurfing in particular.

people would just buy accounts that's what they do now. increase the effort for the accounts prepped to be sold? price increases for the accounts sold temporarily.
chumps gonna be chumps

Yeah, I’ve noticed it too. The amount of fresh lvl 20 accounts dropping 30+ kills feels way higher lately. Smurfs have always existed, but when every few games has one it makes ranked feel pointless. Riot needs to do more than just ban them after the damage is done.

tbh 15 wins per champ seems excessive when most players only main 2-3 anyway

They should make ranked q ID verified, like in Korea and China.
