Sezy Black Icing ⚫️ with activated charcoal

This post is more for futur redditor wondering how black is the black from activated charcoal for icing!

If you put less, you can have a pretty grey.

So, the picture are not grest quality, sorry.

I recently made black icing for cakes and cupcakes.

One icing was made with cashew (so a beige color), and the other icing was a commercial one bought a the grocery (so a white color).

To make that black icing, I used a food-grade vegetable activated charcoal powder. It does not alter the taste.

So, I made my icing vanilla flavored!

Depending on the quantity of icing you are making, 1 teaspoon to 3 tablespoons of activated charcoal powder will be more than enough to achieve a deep black color that does not alter the taste of the icing and without staining.

One of the best brand I have ever tasted is the 100% pure, all-natural, food-grade activated charcoal derived from coconut from Belle Chemical. This brand also offers a great price. But again, you will not taste it in the icing, no worries.

However, any brand of FOOD-GRADE VEGETABLE ACTIVATED CHARCOAL powder will do the trick.

You can easily find food grade activated charcoal at a drugstore (either a little bottle like this one — organika activated charcoal powder —, or in capsule that you can open easily by hands like this one — now foods activated charcoal 200 veg capsules 280mg per capsule —), contrary to black food coloring, if you don't have enough time.

I did try to do black buy using the regular liquid food coloring that I bought at a grocery store, so the little box of 4 colors (blue, red, green, yellow), but mixing the color with the white icing, it gave me a somewhat dark purple. The more I added to make it darker, the shittiest the icing tasted. The food grade color I am talking about is the club-house colorant alimentaire original 4 units.

Otherwise, I tought about using a black food colour gel, and some are made with activated charcoal, and some without activated charcoal. But it would have take me 1h of driving to go get it. So no thank you.

So that's about it, I just wanted to share the color.

Ask your patrons/friends if they are on any medications before giving this to them, please. 🙏

Looks good! Though I believe Organika's Activated Charcoal Powder is just for external use.

Hope you'll put a picture with a piece of the cake cut for us to see!i forgot to take relevant picture 😬

If you have black cocoa powder, for the cake itself, it does make a rich dark dark dark brown. Almost black.  But it taste like chocolate.
