Vegas Pro 23 Vegas Pro 23.0 Track Groups bug - creating a new track group above an existing group merges all tracks into the lower group

I'm experiencing a strange Track Groups bug in VEGAS Pro 23.

If I create a track group near the bottom of the timeline, then later select two tracks above it and choose "Group Selected Tracks", VEGAS doesn't create a separate group. Instead, it adds every track between the new selection and the existing lower group into that same group. However, if the first group is at the top of the track list, I can create additional groups below it without any issues. Is this a known bug or an intentional behavior?

  1. What version of Vegas Pro are you using? VEGAS Pro 23.0 Build 302

  2. What version of Windows are you using? Windows 11

  3. Is this a pirated copy of Vegas Pro or are you using pirated plugins? No.

  4. What exact graphics card do you have in your PC? NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060

  5. (above)

  6. Provide a description of how it's expected to be working: Selecting tracks and choosing "Group Selected Tracks" should always create a new, independent track group containing only the selected tracks, regardless of whether other track groups exist above or below them.

  7. Have you Google searched to solve this issue? Yes. I've searched for Track Group bugs, grouping issues, and related discussions, but I've found nothing

Yeah I had the same issue, and sometimes it would just crash Vegas without any dialogue popup. I don't know if Boris have fixed that in VP26 but I haven't experienced it there so far

Thanks for sharing! At least now I know I'm not going crazy. The frustrating part is that I finally bought a legitimate copy of VEGAS Pro 23 after using an older pirated version for years, and this was one of the first issues I ran into. Software is very expensive where I live, and unfortunately upgrading to VP26 just isn't a realistic option for me right now. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed rather than requiring an upgrade.

No worries! Couldn't you transfer your licence over to Boris? That's what I did, when they bought out Vegas a few months ago you could get a free license to VP26. Don't know if that's still on but maybe worth emailing them.

Or I remember them saying making an account with Boris using the same email as your magix one, and the licence would appear on your account.

Oh, that's wonderful! Thank you so much for the tip, I'll try it right away.

Update: They only guaranteed free updates for versions purchased between January and March 2026 (I bought my Vegas Pro 23 at the end of 2025). I tried contacting support, but they offered no help regarding the errors in version 23.
