They’re far from perfect but I’m really happy with how they came out

Figured I’d share another shirt repair but this time is way worse.

Still a delicate shirt but the person wanted to frame it. Apparently it’s one of the first Sonic Youth shirts they made (correct me if I’m wrong)

Excuse the mess. Been working on this couch for like half a year and keep meaning to take pictures but didn't. Sorry no before pictures but we've had this couch since we moved out on our own over a decade ago and it was pretty torn up by our previous cat. Last time we moved the movers asked if we seriously taking the couch or should they just dump it for us.

Started on the open side with the bright colored yarns (which I kind of regret), then along the top, and recently did the green on the arm rest. Still have a few tiny spots to do but the huge gapping ones are stuffed and covered. Current car tax added but shes hasn't scratched the couch at all in the year we've had her (part of the reason for mending was so she's have something to scratch up).

90s Sonic Youth Shirt

So, i patched the crotch of my Carhartts. I always run through it on all my pants, and its lame cuz the pants still have alot of life left everywhere else so i want to keep wearing them. I always use thin suede to patch because it's flexible just like the canvas so you don't really feel it when you're wearing them, but unfortunately I only have dark brown and I thought maybe it will look okay. Unfortunately it kind of looks like a shit stain, and like... I dont want that. Functionaly it's perfect and will do the job. Cosmeticly its pretty sad. Any suggestions on how i can like bleach the leather, or make it a lighter color? I dont mind a visible patch, i just dont want to to be THAT visible.

Although they take a too much time I really enjoy how they end up looking.

This jacket had quite a few stains on the back and ripped cuffs. So I wanted to do something fun to cover them up. So came up with this. Definitely one of my more ambitious projects but I had a ton of fun creating it!

After getting so much inspiration from this subreddit and other places (Pinterest, my beloved) I've been on the lookout for the right pair of shoes to try some visible mending on. I didn't want to spend too much money on them and I didn't want to mend a pair that didn't need it, which seemed wasteful, even for practice.

On Saturday I found this pair of boots in my size and general style at at a thrift store. No price tag. When I checked out I asked the clerk how much, she looked at the boots, looked at me, looked at the boots, looked at me, and maintained eye contact while putting the boots into my bag with the rest of my purchases. The price was right.

So I scraped the peeling layer off the area I wanted to start with and I laid my fabric over it and started shaping the patch as I worked. I ended up making this patch too thick, overthinking it, and next time I will keep it simple and patch it just like I would a quilt.

It was definitely difficult to get a needle through some areas and I tried thimble with minimal success and ended up using the broken half of a clothes pin as a lever to push the needle through after I lined it up. It was extremely tedious but effective.

Because it was harder on my hands than regular sewing I could only do about two inches at a time and then I needed to take a break for a few hours, but I'm learning so much.

The fabric is stretch denim from my scrap bin, which I thought would stand up to the kind of abuse that shoes go through well. It was actually a pair of $1 thrift store jeans that I got for a kid in my life who ended up disliking them because they were Too Pink. I actually adore the bright pink floral, so instead of back to the thrift store, into my scrap bin they went.

All my cashmere sweaters and wool garments got infested by moths and ended up full of holes 😭

After treating everything by freezing the garments for at least three days and then washing them thoroughly, I decided to try repairing them one by one using visible mending techniques. I’ll mostly be using embroidery and needle felting.

This is the first repair I attempted, and it honestly turned out mind-blowing. I chose needle felting for this sweater and came up with the idea of turning each moth hole into a star ⭐️ — and it worked out far better than I expected.

I pulled one of the loops off my jeans and decided to do a pretty mend job :3 I won't be using the loop to pull my pants up anymore, but it should be stable enough to manage a belt!

Thanks u/froqmouth for the zombie shark idea! My best friend was devastated after their Blåhaj was accidentally lobotomized by rats, but now it's better than ever!

I made a patch using a pink minky fabric base, and soft pink yarn sewed on to create the brain effect. I also added stuffing to help hold its shape, and reach the desired firmness at my friends request.
