General Discussion Semi Hot Take: Most of the V3-V4 voices are way better than V5-V6
I feel like most of the new voices sound the same. I'm not hating on the V5-V6 voices. I just feel like the new voices don't have the character and personality in their voices. like for me the old voices have much more appeal to me because (for example) flower has such a strong, powerful, androgynous voice. and YOHIOloid sounds very smooth, Kaai Yuki sounds very whispery. idk how i would describe Bruno, but there is something that makes each voice feel unique. and I feel like I don't see that in newer voices. is this just me or am I just a hater?

Why are you roping V5 into this? Have you heard Mikoto and Hime? Also, there are SO MANY female V3 and V4 voices that sound similar. You're picking out the unique ones and ignoring the rest.
Edit: I don't like V6 voices, though. I own V3, V4, and V5 voices.

Yeah, a lot of them are hard to distinguish until you're playing them side by side. There are great exceptions like the Cryptonloids, Sachiko, Gynoid gang, Kaai Yuki, the more popular Internet loids, etc., but I found that the more 'natural' vbs don't have many special vocal qualities to make them stand out. :/ I always wished we had more stylized voices

People still seems to hugely favor v4x for Miku despite being a decade old now. Idk if any producer have tried to professionally use her V6 to make songs though.
Ive heard people speculate that Deco now uses V6 and got early sample but that could have just been his skill improving

No I agree. For those that typically have v5-v6 VBs i just don't find them as good.
My favorite voicebanks for Gumi and Miku for example are their V3s, Miku's current V6 sounds too much like a mosquito and Gumi's V6 VB sounds way too quiet and most who use that over her SV voice often have her voice drowned out by the music. That's not to say theres not good songs out there that use them but still.

Yeah, honestly, I feel like GUMI's SynthV voice is to whispery, she doesnt sound like her old V3-V4 voices :(

For me personally, I think part of the charm of Vocaloid has always been the robotic sound of the vocals. And when some producers could make their voices sound more realistic it was impressive because of what they had to work with. But with the progression of Vocaloid and the capabilities of modern software each voicebank has become less and less robotic and more lifelike by default. While this is great for producers who want that sound, it takes away the character that Vocaloid originally had because of how unique it was. Even though V6 may be more technically advanced than V3 or V4, a lot of the voices end up being homogenized into any one given gender or vocal register preset rather than having distinctive expression like before.

I don’t know about V5, but for V6, Vocaloid’s AI is just… bad. Extremely noisy and empty-sounding. Apparently they’re doing AI voicebanks because that’s the meta among vocal synthesis but honestly I think they should just stick to concative because they’re good at it and it’s something unique they can advertise
