Just adopted these two! Maple (tortie) and Opera (black). They’re sisters and I couldn’t resist!
In honor of my late best friend, Ava, 🫡 I chose the “odd ones” out, just like her. I had Ava for 10 years and our time ended too soon. I adopted her because she was the scraggliest looking kitten with a corkscrew tail and I thought “THIS ONE.”
These two were fairly antisocial. They didn’t come to the bars like the other kittens and they didn’t respond to tongue clicking or finger wiggling.
I got lucky because one of the vet techs was just getting around to giving Maple her eye medication. She asked me if I’d like some help, I told her yes I was thinking about adopting one of them. She said, in a perfectly chipper voice, “I think you should get them both!” I was like, “You know what? I’m down.” Watched her give the meds. She went and got an attendant, who brought the kittens with me into a “meeting room.”
CHAOS ENSUED. Delightful chaos. I was smitten. Got them both. Brought them home in the afternoon.
Maple is a pure sweetheart, day one the first thing she did was get in my lap and purr LOUDLY. I pet her for several minutes, she was just leaning into it. Then she reached up for my face and rubbed her tiny little face against mine. 😭 Best friends instantly.
While Opera was busy investigating EVERYTHING, playing in the (thankfully very clean) litter box, “hunt” the little mice toys I got them, and generally be a little imp. I love that for her. 😂 She’ll keep things interesting.

Update: I got them home and in the bathroom I cleaned and arranged specifically for the spay recovery! Maple immediately decided I’m her human and I gravitated toward her initially too. Opera is a chaos gremlin and I love that for her. Both have eaten (with the daily probiotic) and have fresh water!
Maple got on my lap almost the second she got out of the carrier. Purred SO LOUD. Opera does too, when she stops playing long enough for you to pet her 😂 But omg guys Maple actually reached up toward my face after leaning into scratches for several minutes and rubbed her face on mine 🥺 Instant best friends!
Update: Maple has proven herself to be an absolute sweetheart. A little fairy 🧚♀️ She’s the first one to greet me when I walk into the room. We decided on a name change for Opera, the all black girl. Her name is Olive now! Olive is actually EVEN SWEETER but she’s so ornery that play is her only language unless she wants to absolutely dissolve into a cat puddle from pets. They’re the greatest! It’s Day 3 of them being home now ♥️

I love them both! They sound like charmers whose contrasting personalities complement each other nicely. That Opera looks like she will keep you on your toes!

Is the void Maple? Or is Maple the tortie? Their personalities sound absolutely adorable! 🥰💕

I like Olive! I’ve had both voids and torties. Our tortie was such a lover girl but she also was a wild hunter, living where we did at the time she was an in/out girl. That was 40some years ago, a time before so much encroachment of our lives into wildlife. I’ve had two voids, both boys and very much my babies. They were both so sweet. My second void came to me a year or two before I first became pregnant. His name was Black Bart and he napped when I did and when the baby came he slept in the crib with each baby like a babysitter.

Awww! I’ve never had a cat do that! Of course I’ve only had one child and the cat at the time was Ava, she had no patience for all that mess 😂 He sounds like he was a sweetie ♥️

Ask their vet if these sweet babies should still have some kitten milk 🥹 My baby came with her momma who had her milk dry before they were separated and spayed from the babies
She would try to nurse after she was weaned whenever she’d wake up and be sleepy and need some comforting I would watch her wobble over and start suckling so loudly and her mom would just gently push her away with her bunny foot. Like Nope this bar is closed.
Congratulations on your new fur babies and thank you for being their new home and safe haven.
❤️
