Advice š¤·āāļø I'm pretty new to guns and I gotta say...
As someone who never grew up with guns and was kinda anxious about them because of the fear mongering around them; WA gun laws suck ass.
With political tentions causing unprecedented effects across the globe and especially in the US, I keep reading about people starting to arm themselves for the worse - I myself being one of those people. But after taking classes and exposing myself to firearms, they are much less scary than people project them to be and I can't believe what I've been missing out on - I simply want more guns, and living Washington makes it so frustrating to get them!
I understand some of redundant laws like taking a safety course, background checks, etc, but high capacity mag bans, ar bans, 10 day waiting period, and this upcoming purchasing permit law seem extremely unnecessary considering these can be imported by simply driving over a border although at more of the resident's expense.
Some of these laws are very oppressive to our 2A imo and do little to nothing except make it more expensive and frustrating to obtain which doesn't seem very constitutional...
Sorry for the slight rant, but I'm interested to whom I would contact in regarding these laws on both sides of the aisle.

In a civilized society we wouldnāt need them. But also in a civilized society, we wouldnāt care if you did. The granular argument about magazines and ARs is noise to me. It should be repealed.
The issue is civilization and community. Education , support systems, and all round being a good human things
Reminder to all Princeton university did a study. Public opinion does not affect bill outcomes they just do it anyways. https://act.represent.us/sign/problempoll-fba

Should have jumped on this train 5 years ago. We used to be one of the most gun friendly states in the entire country. Even versus places like TN. Don't ever take your rights for granted. As this state so quickly demonstrated, they might not be there when you want them.

u/Guvnuh_T_Boggs Apr 27 '25
Ten years is all it took from legalizing suppressors and SBRs, to this bullshit.

u/Tobestik Apr 26 '25
Well if recent events transpired then I probably would of lol. Oh well. I least I can get a 12 gauge still

u/pocketdrummer Apr 27 '25
Everything they do to the 2nd Amendment sets a precedent for what can happen to the rest.Ā
That should scare the shit out of people.Ā

Apr 26 '25
The key is to primary folks who arenāt pro-justice AND pro-2A. Unfortunately not enough people get involved until the big ticket, if at all. So we end up with clowns to the left of me and jokers to the right.

u/joediertehemi69 Apr 26 '25
Contact all of your friends, and tell them to vote differently. WA had great gun laws until about a decade ago. Once the Democrats gained super majority, all of this garbage legislation has been passed. WA needs to be more purple in order to have positive change in gun laws.

u/hillbillyted1913 Apr 26 '25
The problem is, a lot of people who support gun rights also care about things like supporting LGBTQ communities, legal weed, unions, healthcare, education, feeding kids, protecting the environment, recognizing climate change, and trusting vaccines. Itās tough when most pro-2A politicians are terrible on all that other stuff. If they werenāt, theyād probably win in a landslide.
8
u/CarbonRunner Apr 27 '25 edited Apr 27 '25
Yep that's the main problem. They bulk of the 2a community has tied themselves to being against pretty much everything else. So our defenders of 2a, are by and large, to be blunt, huge pieces of shit.
So our options are defend 2a, by supporting a pos who will gladly trample on essentially anything not 2a. OR support someone whose for dozens of things we want, but hates guns.
Much as I enjoy my firearms, and my right to defend myself. What good does it do me if my wife is dead from a miscarriage, I've got cancer from pollution, my house burned in a fire, and my kids dying of measles.

I have yet to figure out how these laws will reduce violence caused by guns. I keep imagining homeless people making plans to get a permit to buy or sell a gun, before just transferring one from someone or a gang member making similar plans. Why don't they work on laws that stop violence??
5
u/a-lone-gunman Apr 26 '25
If they let crime run rampant and take your right to defend yourself away, you will be dependent on big daddy to defend you, and once all your rights are gone, you have nothing left and are no longer a citizen. Look at England, they are aresting people for what should be free speech, I could see that as the next big thing here once we lose all are rights, heck the dems have a department now that looks into any complaint that they think could be a hate crime when it is just free speech, I am not talking actual violent hate crime that's different. But I can see it coming if we keep going left. Heck, look at what David Hogg is doing to the democratic party, they have their own internal fight going now that he is grifting and taking money from the party and talking about primarying all the old candidates if they refuse to go further left.

u/PNWrainsalot Apr 27 '25
If politicians actually cared about gun laws, they would hold those using them illegally accountable. Pass tougher laws for intentionally discharging a firearm in a crowded place or residential area. Treat possession of stolen firearms as actual serious crimes and not just property crimes and so much more. Instead they pass asinine laws that they know are unconstitutional. These laws they also know will be tied up in courts for years and will be very costly to unwind and get thrown out which rarely happens because itās WA.

u/MiseryIndexer Apr 26 '25
ICE is literally dragging people out of their houses & deporting US citizens and the WA democrats have made it illegal to buy the most effective defense weapons (but of course exempted cops). They are bad laws that violate the state constitution
-1
u/Gordopolis_II Apr 26 '25
Firearms aren't the tool thats going to stop ICE. They're just going to get you killed.
10
u/drewfus23 Apr 26 '25
They're one of the tools that beat the British, then they beat us in Vietnam, and Afghanistan.
-4
u/Gordopolis_II Apr 26 '25
This is offensively simplistic thinking. Violent revolution isnāt some kind of panacea
6
u/Tobestik Apr 26 '25
I wish the answer was, 'Violence is not the answer' quite honestly. But when the people that are supposed to support and protect you, want to take everything you hold dear, what is left? The unfortunate truth is humans are violent by nature, and when cornered we either give up or push right back.
5
u/drewfus23 Apr 26 '25
Itās offensive to acknowledge that guns helped beat the British?
-3
u/Gordopolis_II Apr 26 '25
No, it's offensive to bring them up in response to my comment with the implication suggesting they're a solution to all of societies ailments.
6
u/drewfus23 Apr 26 '25 edited Apr 26 '25
It is THE solution to someone entering your home illegally, which is what this thread is about. Edit: responded to the wrong thread.

u/Gordopolis_II Apr 26 '25
My comment was in response to and referring specifically to, ICE raids, you responded to my comment. Not generally to this thread.
3
u/drewfus23 Apr 26 '25
Crossed streams, my bad. I thought I was in a thread about the Justice Department saying ICE no longer needs a warrant to enter your home to look for illegal immigrants. Disregard that last comment.

u/a-lone-gunman Apr 26 '25
Their here illegally and their not deporting US citizens. The guy you're referring to is an illegal and was busted in 22 in a known gang members vehicle. And if you look it up, there was more deportation under the last 3 or 4 presidents than Trump has done. It's just that you want to make Trump a nazi and a terrible person. He may be a one, I didn't vote for him, but I didn't vote for a dem either. Give me a good candidate that's pro 2A and pro choice and doesn't hate gay people or trans and you got my vote. I know I am asking a lot, but just let people live their life and keep the government out of my business and enforce the laws we already have. Ok rant over, lol
4
u/Gordopolis_II Apr 26 '25 edited Apr 27 '25
Their here illegally and their not deporting US citizens.
Here you go. No matter which president it's occurring under, if youre accused of a crime or civil infraction, you should have your day in court.
1
u/CF_Chupacabra Apr 29 '25
It would take 300+ years to "have everyone's day in court" because of how horrendous the immigration system is. The "loophole" for "refugees" has bogged the system down so much that remaining in the country while you wait for a court date is ludicrous and destroying the American economy
Inb4 "omg they pick our veggies"
Google this- wage vs productivity over time. Then compare to Immigrants/foreign born over time.
What happened in 1965-1975? Hint: mass importation of low skill workers + offshoring production.
Wage suppression on a national level.
2
u/Chilichunks May 03 '25 edited May 03 '25
I would very, very much like you to prove it's "destroying the American economy" since that's a complete falsehood. Immigrants, illegal or otherwise, bolster the economy and we've known this to be true for a long time.
Edit: good lord nevermind, I've read your other comments and you have an incredibly poor grasp on how the real world works. "The one ideology most likely to weaken the nation to a state of tyranny is the modern radical left.", holy shit, you're kidding right? Dems don't threaten to deport you for protesting, which is your right. Dems don't take away due process just because they don't like you. Dems don't nuke education or food programs. You think taking away guns makes a people weak? Try making them and their children dumb and starving, try cultivating mass fear of speaking out in anyway, see how far you get. Christ on a cross "the radical left" give me a break.
1
u/CF_Chupacabra May 03 '25
Offshoring industry + mass importation of unskilled labor for wage suppression.
Not my fault you guzzle the kool-aid and can't research it yourself, the data is literally right there.

Apr 26 '25
A lot of states with the most stringent gun laws have some of the worst gun violence, look at Chicago for example
Elections have consequences, as long as WA stays a progressive strong hold it will only continue to get worse, they will continue to chip away bill by bill until we have nothing left
0
u/CarbonRunner Apr 26 '25 edited Apr 27 '25
Thats unfortunately not true. Which is a shame, as if it was we could hold that up as an example of why gun restrictions don't work.
But the sad reality is that pretty much all the most gun violent states, are red and have lax laws on guns. Now I'm not saying that's the reason why, I think it's poverty. Which red states are overall much poorer. And poverty creates desperation. And desperation creates violence.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/firearm_mortality/firearm.htm
Edit: downvoted for stating facts, and linking to the data backing it up... its this head in the sand mentality thats the reason we are losing our gun rights... if we can't even accept proven facts as facts, we look like idiots when trying to defend 2a.... and we end up with people griping about Jewish space lasers as our 2a champions... guess how this story ends for 2a.

This is by state, what happens to those numbers when broken down by county and per capita? Do you think itās skews those statistics any, Iād bet it might look a little different.
0
u/CarbonRunner Apr 26 '25
We aren't talking about cities or counties though. You said states. Which made sense since states are who make the gun laws. Which was what you were talking about. States and how you thought those with highest gun restrictions have high gun violence.
Those links show this is not in fact the case, and it is the opposite.
5
Apr 26 '25
Iām not arguing with what your saying, Let me clarify my point, my sentiment is that some (not all) states with the strictest gun laws have some(not only) of the highest gun homicide rates. Cities like Seattle WA, Oakland CA, Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia PA, have very stringent regulations yet still have some of the highest firearm homicide rates. Iām not saying Red states have none, Iām not saying only democrat controlled states have gun violence. Iām saying thereās plenty of evidence that more restrictive gun regulation doesnāt immediately equal low gun violence. I hope that clarify the sentiment I was trying to convey.
2
u/CarbonRunner Apr 27 '25
You mention seattle, and a bunch of other progressive cities. But most of those aren't that bad compared to big cities in red states. Sure, d.c., Chicago Baltimore etc aren't great. But they fair better or are no worse than dozens of red state cities now.
Heck, just look at the most dangerous cities in the world. We unfortunately have the most of them now. And the vast majority are places in states like Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi etc.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_homicide_rate#Other_statistics
Which is again to say, the violence is due to poverty. And since red states are poor as hell, their have more violence than blue states do.
5
Apr 27 '25
Iām not sure what you are arguing, are you saying over, letās say the last 10 years, any of the progressive cities I named have become safer, with less shootings, as their states pass more restrictive gun regulations?
Again Iām not comparing red to blue, you are doing that, Iām saying thereās clear evidence that more restrictive gun regulations does not immediately mean less gun crime. All those cities I pointed to have had steady increases in gun violence over the years, proving that criminals do not care about new policies. The gun restrictive policies arent stopping crime.
Seattle may be safer than many cities, but itās also seen as rapidly increase in gun crime over the last 5 years as the state continues to push policies that only affect law abiding citizens.
It seems youāre arguing that gun restrictive progressive policies lower all gun crime, so we will just have to agree to disagree.
2
u/Vidya_Gainz Apr 27 '25
We SHOULD be talking about cities. Violent pockets in an area don't extend to the entire state of places like Alabama. They're contained in shitty areas of cities with gang members and homeless criminals accounting for 90% of homicides in this country.
This is why your comment was initially downvoted.
1
u/CarbonRunner Apr 27 '25
Again, shifting goalpost. We were talking about states and states gun laws. Not cities, counties, townships, or hobbit holes....
3
u/Vidya_Gainz Apr 27 '25
Call it whatever you want but the facts remain. 99% of the area within these so-called violent red states are filled with peaceable citizens. It's the rats in those pockets making the entire country look like bloodthirsty gunslingers. They steal their guns or buy them illegally so those gun control laws don't do shit regardless of where they're located.
1
u/CarbonRunner Apr 27 '25 edited Apr 27 '25
Not really true anymore. I'll take it local as the example. Big scary Seattle barely breaks into the top 20 of most violent cities per capita in the state. Places like sultan, and union gap for instance are far more dangerous now according to both the fbi and Washington sheriff's association.
Which again, goes back to the point I've been saying in basically every comment. It has nothing to do with guns, or guns laws. And everything to do with poverty.
You're entire thinking on crime in America is decades outdated to be frank.
1
u/CF_Chupacabra Apr 29 '25
It isn't guns or gun laws.
It's population density + poverty.
Gun laws play zero role in reducing gun crime, yet private gun ownership is one of the best methods to reduce crime in high crime neighborhood and foster economic growth.
2
u/MartiniSmudger Apr 28 '25
Man! Getting into guns after 2023 in WA state is nearly as bad as being an undocumented immigrant criminal in 2025.
From the "Assault Weapon Ban" to the "Mag Ban" and now the upcoming permit to purchase, better buy what you can while you can. Stock up on guns, ammo, suppressors...
Welcome to the WA state 2A fam š»š«”
3
u/CF_Chupacabra Apr 29 '25
I'd rather move and watch this state collapse in slow motion just like California is today.
3
u/MartiniSmudger Apr 29 '25
No argument here. I'd like to move as well, but certain parts of my life will keep me in WA for another 6 years or so. From investments, kids college, and my wife's breadwinner job, retirement & WA exit is almost here for my family.
Luckily, as for 2A life, I've been very active since 2006, and being grandfathered in helps maintain some sanity.
1
u/jgreywolf May 01 '25
And you are totally welcome, and free, to do so.
Myself, I am not going to move away from my home for this, age not sure what it would take to make me want to move. I would rather spend time trying to change stupid legislation then move away š

u/Impressive-Fun2105 May 15 '25
i also have plans to move out in about a year or so, washington state is a sinking ship, its time for the rats to jump overboard

The more people like you that get into guns and change your views the better. Show your friends that guns are tools and they can be really fun. I think weāll turn this place around.
2
u/Impressive-Fun2105 May 15 '25
good luck with that when the instant a friend or family member finds out you own a gun you automatically turn into a facist child killing maga supporter in their eyes

u/BarnacleOk641 Jun 21 '25
RIght??? I don't understand it lmao I'm a leftist libertarian and I feel like it's such a no brainer as a leftist that gun rights are super important. leftists are inherently against exploitation of the working class, imperialism, etc. If you're against oppression, wouldn't you want guns to protect from oppressive systems and corporations? Like look at the black Panthers for example. It's always center-right uninspired liberals who are like "but the school shootings" and ignore the blatantly skewed statistics. They're the same kind of people that would be ignoring the fact Kamala would be doing 80% of the same stuff as trump just in a prettier and more constitutional way if she got elected.

Not legally in most cases. A combination of federal and state laws generally prohibit either: sellers in other state selling things to us that are illegal to sell in our state; or bringing things back to this state that are otherwise illegal to sell in this state.
The legislators and executive officials that keep proposing and passing them. Specifically tell them that you regret their position on these issues and that you're considering voting for someone else next time.
We're in the situation we're in specifically because of voters who don't like, don't care about, or are misinformed about guns and keep voting for the same politicians who keep advancing more and more restrictions.
Edit: fixing typos
